Synopsis: There were always whispers about my roommate at Hillcrest Academy.

The wealthiest of the wealthy sent their kids to our boarding school, and Brooke Bennett had been at the top, though I never quite knew why. She was fun and outgoing, but she kept quiet about her family. The only things she showed me were photographs of her brothers.

I became fascinated with her second-oldest brother. Kai Bennett.

He was the most of them all. Smoldering. Hypnotic. Alluring.
Kai had eyes that pulled me in and a face that haunted my dreams.

Then I met him.

He came to our school with their father, and that’s when I learned what kind of family Brooke came from. They were mafia, and Brooke’s oldest brother was dead. Her father said accident, but Brooke said murder.

Three months later, her father died, and Kai became the head of the Bennett Family. Brooke left Hillcrest for good, and that was the last time I saw her.

Fourteen years later, I’m staring at her face on the television. Brooke is missing.

Two days later, Kai Bennett kidnaps me.

Review: I must say that I haven’t read many novels about the mafia, but I loved the ones I read from Bethany-Kris so when I saw that Tijan was releasing one on this theme, I was very intrigued. I must admit that I was a little scared because it’s not a simple theme. Yet, I must say that I was stunned, charmed, and completely swept away! Yes, all that! It was a tear to have to leave it aside to go to bed, but that’s it! I finished it and I finally know everything! Yes, because I wanted to know everything, to understand what Tijan had concocted for us and I can tell you that it was dazzling! Yes, yes, yes, yes! There were reversals of situations that I hadn’t really seen coming. When I finally thought I knew how things were going to go, how things were, well, I had it all wrong! I was well handled and I loved it!

It’s so easy to get attached to Riley. She is a broken woman who tries to leave her past behind, to move forward, and to become a good person. She has recently succeeded, she is doing her best and yet, when her former best friend disappears, her whole life is turned upside down. She finds herself involved in a story that is totally beyond her control, but where she seems to be the key element, and everything she was before is now just an oversight. And there’s Kai… Ah Kai, we hate you with her, so much! Yes, so much! And at the same time we love you, more and more every time. You make a place for yourself without ever leaving. Yes Kai, you’re tough, you’re ruthless, you’re a bastard, but you love your family so much and you’ll do anything for them. So yes, an asshole, but it’s also the mafia game, you don’t have a choice, but it’s what you are. What about this whole family? Tanner? Johnas? How easy it is to love them from the beginning. They are so easy to love. What about Brooke? We blame you when Riley blames you and we have a lot of right after all this, but you’re so fresh, innocent in a way and naive. It is a delight to see you enjoy life, even if it is not easy.

Yes, I loved that novel. Besides, I absolutely need it in paper! It’s a great discovery and I hope the author has planned other books in this universe, because I’m so eager to get back into it. I recommend it!!!!!

Yes, mafia romances can be tough. Looks like this one brought out all your emotions and gave you great main characters. I’ll have to add this one to the list.
