Bayou Born by Hailey Edwards

Foundling, Book 1

Synopsis: Her beginning may be our end…

Deep in the humid swamps of the Mississippi bayou, a mysterious, half-wild child is dragged just in time from the murky waters. She has no memories, no family and is covered in strange markings, the meaning of which no one is able to decipher. Adopted by the policeman who rescued her, Luce Boudrou follows him into the force, determined to prove herself in the eyes of those who are still suspicious.

However, there’s more of a battle ahead than Luce could possibly imagine. She may be an orphan without a past, but no one – including Luce herself – could ever be prepared for the truth of her dark, powerful destiny…

Review: I had really enjoyed the series the author wrote about necromancy, so when I discovered this other saga, I was eager to immerse myself in the novel. I generally like everything about bayou and I was curious to learn more!

Luce Boudrou is a young woman who has no past. She appeared one day and grew up with a police officer without knowing what happened before. But here it is, when she finds a woman in the Bayou, a person who has the same marks as her and who could perhaps finally give her answers about who she is, she is determined to save her. But at the same time, Luce’s life is disrupted when her friend disappears and she can’t find her trace. However, Luce’s life could also be in danger and the young woman will have to choose her battles.

I had a little trouble with the story. Like a lot. And I only managed to get interested in it after 100 pages. From then on, however, I was more easily swept away by the revelations and I had a very good time with the novel. In fact, I ordered the next one right away too, as I was eager to learn more. Luce is an enigmatic character who hides many secrets, much more than we think and it was very interesting to learn more about her little by little. If it’s true that she takes some truths a little too easily, I really enjoyed learning more about Cole and the others. There are still several things I can’t wait to understand! That’s why I need to get into book 2.

  1. I find that is the case a lot of times for me when I read a new UF series. Sometimes the introduction is a bit slow, but once it takes root, it gets really good. I hope the next book is even stronger.
