The Malediction Trilogy, Book 1
Synopsis: For five centuries, a witch’s curse has bound the trolls to their city beneath the mountain. When Cécile de Troyes is kidnapped and taken beneath the mountain, she realises that the trolls are relying on her to break the curse.
Cécile has only one thing on her mind: escape. But the trolls are clever, fast, and inhumanly strong. She will have to bide her time…
But the more time she spends with the trolls, the more she understands their plight. There is a rebellion brewing. And she just might be the one the trolls were looking for…
Review: This is a novel that I had for some time and from which I had heard a lot of good things. Also, I was delighted to finally start it!
Cécile has always lived with her brothers and sisters on their father’s farm. But here it is, her mother, whom she has only seen a few times, must come and pick her up to take her to the city and make her sing on the biggest stages. That was the plan, at least, until she was kidnapped and taken to the depths of the mountain where trolls live, a population that everyone thought had disappeared. Unfortunately, running away will not be possible and it is even worse when she understands that they have gone to get her to break the curse that has hung over them for years and that prevents them from leaving this place. To do so, she must be married to Prince Tristan and bound to him. It’s bad enough, but she’s in the middle of a conspiracy where she could well be the key.
It was a very good novel and I loved learning more about these trolls who are actually much more than that. Tristan is a character that is difficult to identify and yet, little by little, we discover what he hides behind his shell. Cécile will be propelled into a world she knows nothing about and, if she only thinks of going home at first, she will discover that her presence is important.
The ending makes me want to have the second novel on hand and I must admit that I am really curious to be able to immerse myself in the story to discover what the author has in store for us. Major changes are to be expected!
