Review: After the end of the last book, I was excited to read this fifth novel. Oh yes because we were left with a terrible cliffy. Edie had been taken against her will by a rather terrifying vampire but in addition to this, the young woman had just learned she was pregnant. Many problems, isn’t it? So I was very curious to see what Cassie Alexander would offer us this time!

From the beginning, Edie is found in a new environment and while she hoped to stay safe the time to find a way to escape this situation; it seems that this is impossible. Indeed, after realizing that she is actually settled in the catacombs of a club where we can find prostitutes, drugs and blood whores, it seems like some would like kill her more than anything. And when she became the kind of persons she has always hated, Edie will be at the heart of a story that transcends her. Now in addition to having to find a way to save her and the baby she wears, she must also try to understand what these vampires are hiding at all costs and save more people than what she thought. But could she do that in such a difficult place?

Edie will have to quickly show a survival instinct here, and while she had shared this weight in the previous volume with Asher, she will be alone here. Constantly monitoring what is happening around her, trying to integrate or at least to stay alive and to hide the fact that she is pregnant, she will have to try to be discreet, but Edie is not like that, and she will quickly attract the ire of others. I loved finding the young woman here, she is strong, determined and ready for anything. She does not know who she can trust and everyone seems to want something from her, which is quite tricky. None of the other characters we know is really here, except at the very end of the novel and it is true that it was quite surprising and interesting to see the young woman alone throughout the story. However, we can also say that she is very lucky to have friends who are willing to do anything to help her, whatever happens.

It was again a very good novel that I took a great pleasure in discovering it. We do not have this time a real cliffy but I am very curious to see more again. Action, betrayal and an explosive heoine! A good series to read.

Edie Spence, Book 4

Synopsis: Edie Spence just wanted a vacation. A nice, relaxing, stress free, non-adventure away from the craziness that’s dominated her life since becoming a nurse for paranormal creatures. But from the start, her trip on the Maraschino, a cruise ship bound for Hawaii, has been anything but stress free, especially when Edie’s boyfriend Asher recognizes someone he used to know. Someone from his not-so-nice past. With their lives in the balance, will Edie and Asher be able to save their growing family or will this adventure be their end?

Review: I really enjoy this series, so I was eager to read this new release. Well, Edie never really has any luck and I was curious to see in what mess we would find her this time. I confess that I was also completely surprised by the environment that we find here, our two heroes Asher and Edie are currently on a cruise.

So as I said our two characters meet on a boat to take a vacation. But then Edie wonders if she is pregnant and is anxious about the Asher’s reaction, however he is only obsessed with a man who is on the ship. Indeed, in one of his other lives, our hero worked for someone who has been proven far worse than he had imagined. After stealing data, Asher did not hesitate to give his name to higher authorities to lock him away. As he is convinced that it is not a coincidence to see the man now with them, he is determined to understand what he is trying to achieve here, especially if it is against him. But when a kind of epidemic spread throughout the ship and that the death toll is rising, our two heroes will have to do everything to stay alive.

I admit that I was a bit unsettled at the beginning when I realized that the whole novel was going to happen on the boat. It always gives me the impression of a story confined and finally it does not happen as many events as in other novels. This does not mean that it was not good eh! Because I really liked the novel, but the story does not necessarily advance as I really wanted. Yet I found that the plot was really interesting and I was curious to know what was really happening on the ship. People act more and more strangely and it is true that whatever we do, we can not imagine the reason behind all these events. I was also curious to see how the pregnancy would change Edie, to know the nature of the child, or to know if she would survive with him during the whole adventure. And I must say that the author has managed to achieve something incredible in a relatively small space eventually. We have a lot of things about this epidemic and the plot that takes place on the boat. We also meet many characters who will have great impacts on the Edie’s life. I must say that this story will overcome them all. Of course it is still very cute to see our couple together especially after all the hardships they have been through and it’s very nice to see our happy and loving nurse.

I was also very surprised by the end of the novel as I did not really expect that and I’m really curious to see what will happen. By cons, yes, we have a real cliffy and it is true that it will be quite difficult to wait so much to know the rest of the story. I think that this volume is a link between Volume 3 and volume 5 and I look forward to read more. A good story even if maybe I have a preference for the other novels. This is fun and always pleasant to read this series.

Une belle détente, sans stress, sans aventure loin de la folie qui a dominé sa vie depuis qu’elle est devenue infirmière pour les créatures paranormales. Mais dès le début, son voyage sur le Maraschino, un bateau de croisière à destination de Hawaii, a été tout sauf sans stress, surtout quand le petit ami d’Edie, Asher, reconnaît quelqu’un qu’il a connu dans une autre vie. Quelqu’un de son passé pas si gentil. Avec leurs vies en balance, Edie et Asher seront-ils capable de sauver leur famille grandissante ou cette aventure sera-t-elle la dernière ?

Avis : J’apprécie beaucoup cette série, aussi j’étais impatiente de pouvoir lire cette nouvelle sortie. Il faut dire qu’Edie n’a jamais vraiment de chance et j’étais curieuse de voir dans quelle pagaille nous allions cette fois la retrouver. J’avoue que j’ai été d’ailleurs complètement surprise par l’environnement que l’on retrouve ici, nos deux héros Asher et Edie étant en train de réaliser une croisière.

Donc comme je le disais nos deux personnages se retrouvent sur un bateau pour prendre quelques vacances. Mais alors qu’Edie se demande si elle est bien enceinte et reste anxieuse quant à la réaction d’Asher, ce dernier est obnubilé par un homme qui se trouve sur le navire. En effet, dans une de ses autres vies, notre héros a travaillé pour une personne qui s’est révélée bien pire que ce qu’il avait imaginé. Après avoir volé des données, Asher n’a pas hésité à remettre son nom à des autorités supérieures pour qu’il soit enfermé. Aussi il est persuadé que ce n’est pas une coïncidence de voir l’homme à présent avec eux et est bien déterminé à comprendre ce qu’il cherche à réaliser ici, surtout si c’est contre lui. Mais quand une sorte d’épidémie s’étend sur tout le bateau et que le nombre de morts augmente, nos deux héros vont devoir tout faire pour rester en vie.

J’avoue que j’ai été un peu déstabilisée au départ quand j’ai compris que tout le roman allait se passer sur le bateau. Ça me donne toujours l’impression d’une histoire confinée et finalement qu’il ne se passe pas autant de choses que dans les autres histoires. Cela ne veut pas dire que ce n’était pas bien hein ! Parce que j’ai vraiment beaucoup aimé le roman, mais l’histoire n’avance pas forcément comme je le voulais véritablement. Pourtant j’ai trouvé l’intrigue vraiment intéressante et j’étais curieuse de savoir ce qu’il se passait réellement sur ce bateau. Les gens agissent de plus en plus étrangement et c’est vrai que quoi qu’on fasse on ne peut imaginer la raison derrière tous ces événements. J’étais aussi curieuse de voir comment sa grossesse allait évoluer, connaître la nature de l’enfant, savoir si elle survivrait ainsi que lui à toute cette aventure. Et je dois dire que l’auteure a réussi à réaliser quelque chose d’assez incroyable dans un espace finalement assez restreint. Il se passe énormément de choses quant à cette épidémie et ce complot qui se déroule sur le bateau. On rencontre aussi de nombreux personnages dont certains qui auront de grands impacts sur la vie d’Edie. Il faut dire que cette histoire va tous les dépasser complètement. Bien sûr c’est toujours très mignon de voir notre couple ensemble surtout après toutes les épreuves qu’ils ont traversées et ça fait très plaisir de voir notre infirmière heureuse et amoureuse.

J’ai été aussi très surprise par la fin du roman, je ne m’y attendais vraiment pas et je suis vraiment curieuse de voir ce qu’il se passera. Par contre oui, on a un vrai cliffy et c’est vrai que ça va être assez difficile d’attendre autant pour connaître la suite de l’histoire. J’ai eu un peu l’impression que ce tome-là allait lier le tome 3 au tome 5 et j’attends donc avec impatience d’en savoir plus. Une bonne histoire même si peut-être j’ai une préférence pour les autres romans. C’est une série fraîche et toujours des plus agréables à lire.

When Edie was fired from her paranormal nursing job at County Hospital, her whole world came crashing down. Now she’s is once again shaken to her core. Her mother is deathly ill and there’s only one thing that will save her: vampire blood. But with the paranormal community shunning Edie, where can she obtain it…without losing her own life in the process?

Review: After the end of the second volume, we can only look forward to read this new book. In fact Eddie was “exiled” from the supernatural world and everyone has been forbidden to approach her. You can say that now she can be free and finally live her life? But such a change is not without consequences and it is very difficult for her to get used to a world so common now. She had many friends everywhere and now she is alone, isolated from everyone she could find so far. But there is even more… Her mother tells her that she has a terminal cancer and that nothing can now save her. Poor Edie lose all she cares about and begs the “shadows” for help. They agree at only one condition: to find a person finds they failed to catch. For that, our heroine leaves her job at the hospital and is hired as a nurse in a neighborhood where gang wars are omnipresent.

I admit that I was impressed by her adaptation to a new environment such as this one, which is also as dangerous as the one where she worked. It was fascinating to learn the history of this area and all the subtleties that reside there. I really liked to learn more about everything. Of course we have many questions about the events happening there, as Edie and I admit that there are multiple and many surprises!

I really wondered how our young heroine would able to operate in these conditions and without any protection. Then the language barrier does not help much either. It made me sad to see her through so many problems by herself, to try to save the whole world, to make everyone happy without thinking about what would happen to her. But we can also meet a young boy with whom Edie befriends and I must say it was a nice surprise. He is a ray of sunshine and freshness in the story and I was always looking forward to see what he would teach us.

It was really a very good new story full of great ideas. The plot is perfectly constructed, featuring some new and old characters. I admit that I was pleasantly surprised to see our beloved zombie too. Cassie Alexander always has a perfect control of her story and her world and it was a great pleasure to get into it again. But I now have only one desire and it is to be able to read the next book very quickly and see what will happen to our little Edie. I really recommend this series if you’re an urban fantasy fan and want to discover a completely different environment.

Sa mère est gravement malade et il n’y a qu’une seule chose qui peut la sauver: du sang de vampire. Mais avec la communauté paranormale fuyant Edie, où peut-elle en obtenir… sans perdre sa propre vie dans le processus?

Avis : Après la fin du deuxième tome, on ne peut qu’être impatient de lire ce nouveau livre. En effet Eddie avait été « exilée » du monde surnaturel avec interdiction pour toute personne de l’approcher. Vous vous diriez qu’elle peut être ainsi libre et enfin vivre sa vie ? Mais un tel changement ne se fait pas sans séquelles et il est vraiment très difficile pour elle de s’habituer dans un monde tel que celui-ci. Elle qui avait de nombreux amis un peu partout se retrouve seule, isolée de tous les gens qu’elle a pu connaître jusque-là. Mais encore s’il n’y avait que ça… Sa mère lui annonce qu’elle a un cancer au stade terminal et que rien ne peut maintenant la sauver. La pauvre Edie perd tous ses moyens et supplie les « shadows » pour qu’ils l’aident, ce qu’ils acceptent à la condition qu’elle retrouve une personne qu’ils ne parviennent pas à attraper. Pour cela notre héroïne va quitter son travail à l’hôpital et se fait embaucher en tant qu’infirmière dans un quartier ou les guerres de gangs sont omniprésentes.

J’avoue que j’ai été impressionnée par son adaptation dans un nouvel environnement tel que celui-ci, qui est d’ailleurs tout aussi dangereux que celui où elle travaillait. C’était fascinant d’apprendre l’histoire de ce quartier et toutes les subtilités qui y résidaient. J’ai vraiment beaucoup apprécié d’en apprendre plus. Bien sûr on se pose de nombreuses questions au sujet des événements qui s’y passent, tout comme Edie et j’avoue qu’on y trouve de multiples et nombreuses surprises !

Je me demandais vraiment comment notre jeune héroïne allait pouvoir évoluer dans ces conditions et sans aucune protection. Puis la barrière de la langue n’aide pas beaucoup non plus. Ça m’a fait vraiment beaucoup de peine de la voir traverser tant d’épreuves par elle-même, d’essayer de sauver toute le monde, de rendre tout le monde heureux sans penser à ce qui allait lui arriver à elle. Mais nous découvrons un jeune garçon avec qui Edie se lie d’amitié et je dois dire qu’il a été une jolie surprise. Il est un vrai rayon de soleil et de fraicheur dans l’histoire et j’étais toujours impatience de voir ce qu’il allait nous apprendre.

C’était vraiment une nouvelle très bonne histoire pleine de superbes idées. L’intrigue est parfaitement construite, mettant en scène de nouveaux comme des anciens personnages. J’avoue que j’étais agréablement surprise de voir notre cher zombie aussi. Cassie Alexander a toujours une maitrise parfaite de son histoire et de son monde et c’était un grand plaisir que de rentrer dedans une nouvelle fois. Mais je n’ai maintenant qu’une seule envie c’est de pouvoir lire le prochain tome très vite et voir ce qu’il va advenir de notre petite Edie. Je vous recommande vraiment cette série si vous êtes un fan d’urban fantasy et que vous voulez évoluer dans un environnement complètement différent.
