The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa

Blood of Eden,Book 3

Synopsis:VENGEANCE WILL BE HERS

Allison Sekemoto once struggled with the question: human or monster?

With the death of her love, Zeke, she has her answer.

MONSTER

Allie will embrace her cold vampire side to hunt down and end Sarren, the psychopathic vampire who murdered Zeke. But the trail is bloody and long, and Sarren has left many surprises for Allie and her companions—her creator, Kanin, and her blood brother, Jackal. The trail is leading straight to the one place they must protect at any cost—the last vampire-free zone on Earth, Eden. And Sarren has one final, brutal shock in store for Allie.

In a ruined world where no life is sacred and former allies can turn on you in one heartbeat, Allie will face her darkest days. And if she succeeds, triumph is short-lived in the face of surviving forever alone.

Review: And here’s the last volume of the Blood of Eden series. I must confess that I had forgotten that the series was actually a trilogy (which is strange when you consider that the author makes a lot of them) and it is by seeing the opinions of other people that I understood that we would finally have our final here.

So we end up after the end of the second volume, following our three heroes Jackal, Kanin and Allie, who are trying to pursue Sarren to stop him at all costs. However, this mission really seems much more complicated than expected. Yes, because this is not to mention the fact that our villain is twisted and very smart as well as full of surprises for his pursuers. Oh yes, and even though we strongly doubt about some, it is always interesting to see the reactions of the characters in this regard. Their quest is going to bring them in Eden where many revelations we will be given and we finally discover if there is a cure or not about this terrible disease.

I had a lot of fun to follow our heroes and it is true that even if Kanin is equal to itself as always (even if a little behind the other characters). Allie has changed dramatically throughout the story. After the death of Zeke, our young vampire is left surpassed by her emotions and while she has always tried to escape this aspect, she has now become the monster she thought she would never be. It was really interesting to see the person she was and how she would manage to succeed her quest. Many obstacles will arise along the way, allowing her to understand the purpose of her existence. Regarding Jackal, it is true that it is difficult to decide about his fate, I hated him in the first volume, enjoyed him in the second and here it is even more complex. Yes, because we appreciate him at times, and we are disappointed in others by his immature attitude. It is very difficult to understand or see how he will react in the coming events. He can sometimes act very rationally and sometimes surprise us. He is a very unpredictable character. By cons as always, Sarren is a real nasty as we like them, with ideas completely twisted and terrible that we see developped throughout the story.

I will say no more as I do not want to give too much out but I really enjoyed reading the last book and I’m curious to see what Julie Kagawa reserve us now.

Forever Humaine de Julie Kagawa

Blood of Eden, Tome 3

Iron Traitor by Julie Kagawa

The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten, Book 2

Synopsis: In the real world, when you vanish into thin air for a week, people tend to notice.

After his unexpected journey into the lands of the fey, Ethan Chase just wants to get back to normal. Well, as “normal” as you can be when you see faeries every day of your life. Suddenly the former loner with the bad reputation has someone to try for-his girlfriend, Kenzie. Never mind that he’s forbidden to see her again.

But when your name is Ethan Chase and your sister is one of the most powerful faeries in the Nevernever, “normal” simply isn’t to be. For Ethan’s nephew, Keirran, is missing, and may be on the verge of doing something unthinkable in the name of saving his own love. Something that will fracture the human and faery worlds forever, and give rise to the dangerous fey known as the Forgotten. As Ethan’s and Keirran’s fates entwine and Keirran slips further into darkness, Ethan’s next choice may decide the fate of them all.

Review: I was curious about the Ethan and Kierran’s adventures  even if it is true that I still prefer the original series. It is always interesting to follow Meghan’s brother as well as her son. Especially when we have the chance to see her appearing in short episodes.

Ethan hoped to return to his normal life, especially now that Kenzie is part of it. I must say that their trip is not already well appreciated by their entourages. Because of that, they need to keep a low profile for the moment. Yet his plans will be completely messed up when he discovers that Kierran went looking for a way to save the beautiful summer exiled fae who is now fading. However, Ethan and Kenzie find themselves thrust into this world again while they hoped both to avoid it. Now they’re in search of a young boy who is himself looking for a cure. But his quest will lead Kierran to act as ever and threaten the lives of everyone. Yet he has no interest in the plight of others until he gets what he wants.

Ethan and Kenzie are really cute together even if our heart breaks at the thought that Kenzie is as always very sick. I’m surprised and quite pleasantly to see that Ethan wouldn’t seek for now to try to make a pact with the fae for a treatment. He understands the reason he needs to stay away of that but sometimes it’s also really difficult. In terms of Kierran, it is quite the opposite. I was quite surprised to see his naivety and stupidity. He is supposed to be a prince and at least think before he acts, but it is in no way the case and that’s a shame. Because his actions have serious consequences and I confess that even the most stupid person would have understood that there is a problem in all of this. We’ll see what happens later but I do not think that side of his personality will really work out. However, this does not spoil the story and I was really curious to see how everything would be solved and if Kierran would manage to save his beloved. Despite some passages a little long I have to say that I took great pleasure to follow their adventures here and I was even more happy to see Meghan and read some of her scenes. We also discover many new aspects of faerie as well as some means of survival and hopefully we’ll know more next time.

So it was a good book and I’m curious to read more, especially with such a purpose. Many things happen here and I’m sure you will enjoy this new novel.

The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa

Blood of Eden, Book 2

Synopsis: Allison Sekemoto has vowed to rescue her creator, Kanin, who is being held hostage and tortured by the psychotic vampire Sarren. The call of blood leads her back to the beginning—New Covington and the Fringe, and a vampire prince who wants her dead yet may become her wary ally.

Even as Allie faces shocking revelations and heartbreak like she’s never known, a new strain of the Red Lung virus that decimated humanity is rising to threaten human and vampire alike.

Review: Julie Kagawa never disappoints and I was really curious to finally read more of the adventures of Allison Sekemoto. I must say that the end was more than frustrating and I was curious to see her rescue for Kanin.

We thus find at the beginning of the novel our young heroine in search of her creator, reliving every night what he is enduring, strengthening each time a little more her determination to save him whatever the costs. What she does not expect is certainly to come to face with her “brother” Jackal who is waiting for her and kindly offers an interesting contract. It is a strange alliance, but he can help her to find Kanin if she also helps him to find the cure he seeks. But their quest will bring them back to the beginnings of the Allie’s former life and to the people from her past.

I was completely surprised by Jackal in this novel, I did not really expect such a turnaround. We had met him in the first volume and I admit that this is a character I immediately disliked. But my feeling has changed completely in this novel. Yes he is very frustrating and annoying especially in his dialogues and actions, but I think it’s just his way of being himself. However, he has other things for himself and despite his attitude, he knows what he has to do, he knows what is right. It was pretty amazing also. He tries to explain to Allie that vampires are monsters and by her conduct he thinks she is rather naive, but I think he understands her too. He has been my great surprise in this book. Of course we also have our dear Allie, who is obsessed with her quest. She only wants to find the one who had helped her, but she did not expect that this mission would lead her on such paths, including to a new kind of virus that could kill them all.

I will not reveal much, because it would be very easy to tell you everything there is to know but it was still a very good book and it was a pleasure to be able to follow such a new adventure. We have many revelations and I really enjoyed having Kanin again. I think I missed him in the first novel and it was nice to rediscover him here. It is a new book full of surprises, mysteries and alliances we don’t expect. And it is true that now that I’ve finished it I’m really curious to see what will happen in the third book!

La Gardienne d’Eternité de Julie Kagawa

Blood of Eden, Tome 2
