Damn him to Hell by Jamie Quaid

Saturn’s Daughter, Book 2

Synopsis: Justice is blind. Justine isn’t. Book two in the Saturn’s Daughter series, in which Tina Clancy is gifted with the power to dispense justice…for good or evil.

Tina Clancy is adapting to her new life as one of Saturn’s Daughters while living in the toxic part of Baltimore known as The Zone, and occasionally acting as a champion of the downtrodden, the weird, the innocent…and the sometimes not-so-innocent.

Just when she finally lands a real law job, the Zone is blasted by poisonous gas and her sometimes-boyfriend starts receiving visitors from Hell. He’s none too pleased about that, or in Tina having sent his granny to Hell in his place. For that matter, neither is granny…

Review:  I was really looking forward to read this second volume after being overwhelmed by the ideas of the first one. I admit that I was quite surprised to see how the novel was going on; I did not expect that at all. Not that it isn’t great, no, but it’s just a little different and the story is focused on one big event. However, it also allows us to better understand some aspects of this world and all its inhabitants.

The area is swept by a terrible plague, indeed, nobody knows where this strange gas spreaded in the city comes from. Those affected fall into a very strange coma, seeming to sleep without that nothing can wake them up. But Justine is determined to understand what is happening and to save her friends who are in a bad shape. Of course, she could not do anything without the indispensable help of Max/Dane or Andre. But more importantly, this novel allows us to learn more about Acme and its ramifications. Something very intriguing and I’m curious to see where this will lead us.

Justine is not really used to take care of things, but since she lives in the zone and tries to accept her fate, she seems more inclined to do what needs to be done. And if she needs to give orders, to go break into a lab, become invisible or send people to hell, she is ready to do her best! It was really interesting to have again our beloved heroine. I must say that her Saturn’s daughter condition is really intriguing and I was curious to see the evolution and the limits of what she could do. We learn a little more about her although we still have many questions and I would love to know if she will manage to unravel the mysteries that surround her. Justy has become a very brave young woman and is ready to do many things for her friends. Of course, she will always be helped by Andre and Dane/Max. What about those two men? It is very difficult to decide between them and I confess that I have a little trouble to choose. They each have a little something that makes us want to see how they could be with our heroine. Andre and Justy play a lot of cat and mouse, but we wonder what would happen if they would let it go. But I understand the distrust of our heroine about this mysterious character. It, however, was really nice to learn more about him here and I hope it will continue in the third book. And what about Max/Dane? The Senator is always there for Justine when she needs help and he will do the best he can, even if he can be put in a compromising situation. We feel that he needs her and Justine knows it, but the change of body makes everything more difficult. However I am curious to see if she will eventually capitulate. Well I must admit that I still have a soft spot for Andre as he is also very mysterious, annoying and charming when he wants and I’m curious to see what will happen between our three characters.

It was a very good new volume, it allows us to deepen many points raised in the first book. The Jamie Quaid’s world is really fascinating and we always hope to discover the secrets that live there. In fact, we have some completely unique characters in a zone with its own rules.

  1. I’ve seen this book around and was curious. Looks like you still need more answers. Sometimes that is nice in a series and sometimes you just want the next book now! 🙂 Still, I get the feel for the book and do think I need to start the series someday!
