Nikki & Michael, Book 1
Synopsis: Private Investigator Nikki James grew up on the tough streets of Lyndhurst and believes there’s nothing left to surprise her. All that changes the night she follows teenager Monica Trevgard into the shadows-and becomes a pawn caught in a war between two very different men. One fills her mind with his madness, the other pushes his way into her life-and her heart. Nikki knows how dangerous love can be, but if she wants to survive, she must place her trust in a man who could easily destroy her.
Michael Kelly has come to Lyndhurst determined to end the war between himself and another brother of the night. For 300 years he has existed in life’s shadows, gradually learning to control the life from death cravings of a vampire. Nikki not only breaches his formidable barriers with her psychic abilities, but makes Michael believe he may finally have found a woman strong enough to walk by his side and ease the loneliness in his heart. But will his love be enough to protect her from a madman hell-bent on revenge? Or will it drive her into his enemy’s deadly trap?
Only together can they overcome the evil threatening to destroy them both. But the secrets they keep from each other might prove to be the greatest threat of all.
Review: I was really curious about this Keri Arthur’s series. I’ve read many of her books and I was curious to see how she would carry out her ideas in this novel. So when I discovered the new edition of the series, I thought it was a very good opportunity. Especially since the new cover is really attractive!
I must say I was completely surprised, the novel is very different from what I had the opportunity to read by Keri Arthur. It is much softer and at the same time the plot is really well built. If I did not know who the author was at the beginning, I would never have found it.
Nikki is a sensitive heroine, but has more courage than anyone. So when she decides to investigate the disappearance of some young women, she does not expect to have to face an enemy like this, and from the hunter she quickly becomes the prey . She will enter a world that will change her life, a world where vampires, zombies and other creatures live. Yet she has also some gifts, and we discover that throughout the novel. She did not expect either to meet Michael, the man who makes her succumb and yet seems so far away from her. But he will do his best, protecting her as much as he can and being near her when she needs it.
I enjoyed getting to know each character. Nikki is a young woman with a long history and I looked forward to understand what had made her the person we discover. And it’s true that her life was more than difficult and we are in awe of the person she has become even though it is still hard for her. Michael is very secret and do not reveal much about her nature, but in the novel we learn a few things and I look forward to more. The two together make a beautiful couple, and they complement each other perfectly, even if they are struggling to accept what happens. I must say that I also loved the big villain of the story. He is perfect, sadistic, crazy, twisted, everything we would expect from a character like this.
A very nice early series and I’m curious to see what the result will be now.

Oh I was a bit curious about this series, now I’m really curious! I like that you wouldn’t have guessed the author which means it is a bit of a departure for her. Oh that is what I do like to see sometimes. Must put on the wishlist.
Melissa (My World...in words and pages)
Oh! I’ve been curious about this author as well. Wonderful to hear. 🙂
