Katherine “Kitty” Katt, Book 2
Synopsis: It’s been five months since marketing manager Katherine “Kitty” Katt started working with the aliens from Alpha Centauri, and she and Jeff Martini are getting closer. But when an experimental spacecraft is mysteriously returned to the Kennedy Space Center, Kitty and the rest of her team are called in to investigate. Now the team must survive murderous attacks, remove a space entity from a group of astronauts, and avoid an unhinged woman with a serious crush on Kitty’s high school boyfriend. And that’s all before evil masterminds decide Kitty’s extermination is vital.
Review: I was eager to rediscover Kitty after the first explosive volume. And I must say that I was not disappointed, Gini Koch has managed to keep the same sense of humor, action and originality in this second novel, and all for our pleasure. I know very few urban fantasy novels that happen to also keep a good level of humor and it’s nice to read something like that, a little different and that is both light and full of subtleties .
Kitty has many things to manage as usual and Jeff does not help to reduce all this! He tans her for months for them to go together to her high school reunion. And that she does not have the slightest desire to go, does not change anything for him. In addition, he is determined to meet her Mr. best friend and see who he is after hearing so much about him. I must say that I was very curious to finally meet Chuck and see who he really was, other than by phone. But of course, nothing is ever simple and our young heroine must investigate the return of three astronauts returned in a fairly mysterious way. All this also accompanied by many attempted murders, explosions of all kinds and the meeting with the Jeff’s family. When we see the state of the alien about the meeting at the beginning of the book, we can only look forward to the idea of what will happen and what will be the reactions of each person at this moment. And I must say that everything was a real surprise and the author has led us perfectly through the meetings and intrigue. We also have here some very great revelations, encounters with many new characters and conflicts to no end and I admit that we can not ask for more as everything is good and funny!
As I said I took great pleasure in reading this novel. Kitty is becoming more and more part of her team and she loves her new job. Of course, the risks are there too, but she and Jeff are there to look after each other. She does not hesitate to speak her mind even if the consequences are sometimes quite difficult and she remains committed to her ideas throughout the story. She is not afraid to admit that she is terrified but she will still do everything possible to save those she loves. Jeff is simply adorable as always and puts Kitty on top priority in all circumstances. His Family itself is quite unique and it was funny to meet his father (very similar to son) and his mother. I hope we’ll have the opportunity to see them as soon as possible as we feel they love their son deeply, whatever he may believe.
The whole novel is perfectly staged and the plot is larger and more complex than we might think initially. This is a very good series and I ‘m looking forward to read more now!
