Can you present you in a few words?

Story addict, cat lover, Aussie, prone to silliness.

How would you describe the Half-Light City series?

Dark fantasy with a hint of gaslight and a good helping of romance.

What would you most like potential readers to know about you and/or your book?

About me? Hmmm, that’s a tricky one. That I really love books and stories and I hope they like this one.

If you could meet any characters in your book, who would it be and why?

I will confess to having a very soft spot for Lily, the heroine of Shadow Kin because she’s the one who started this whole thing. She might be a little scary though. Too hard to pick amongst the others, I’d love to meet them all.

List 5 characters from your series and do word associations.

Simon – Sunshine, growing, steady

Fen – Trouble, moonlight, intoxicating

Guy – Devotion, fierce, stubborn

Lily – Survivor, blooming, smoke

Bryony – Midnight, power, headstrong

What is the most memorable moment (good, bad, or other) you have had in your life as an author?

The most memorable moment is a a tie between the night I finished writing my very first novel which was amazing and exciting and the day I made my first sale which was also amazing and exciting with a dose of terrifying thrown in as well!

Whats the hardest scene for you to write?

Sad scenes are the hardest.  Moments of heartbreak. Even if I know that things will get better in the end, it’s still hard to dig into those emotions and go through it with the characters.

What can readers expect from the upcoming sequels?

The Half-Light series will be four books, so hopefully lots of action, lots of adventures, several great romances and everything working out in the end (she says as she tries to tie up all the plot threads in the last book).

Who is your favorite kick ass heroine?

I’m a big fan of Kate Daniels from Ilona Andrews books. And Phaedre from Jaqueline Carey’s Kushiel novels who is a different kind of kick ass.

What authors have been an influence for you? And have you read any books lately that you want to share with us or have you been too busy with writing to read?

I think every author I love has an influence on me.  Some of my favourites are Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Lois McMaster Bujold, Jennifer Crusie, Terry Pratchett, Loretta Chase, Dianna Wynne Jones, Megan Whalen Turner and Robin McKinley.  As for books I’ve read lately, I will admit that due to my current crazy writing schedule, I haven’t been reading anywhere near as much as I usually do but a few books that I’ve loved recently are Untamed by Anna Cowan which was a beautifully written, very different historical romance, The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson (which was spooky in a good way) and Written in Red by Anne Bishop.

Are there any other projects you’re working on or thinking about starting in the near future?

After I finish Fire Kin, I’ll be starting a new dark fantasy series for Roc, which I’m still mulling over so can’t say too much about.  And next year, my first contemporary romance, written as Melanie Scott comes out from St. Martin’s Press (featuring the worst baseball team in the USA and the three guys who want to save it). There will be three books in that series. After I get all that done, there are is a long list of ideas waiting their turn!

  1. I read book 1, Shadow Kin, and totally loved it! I was bummed our library didn’t have the rest of the series. I should probably check in again and see if they did manage to get the rest.

P.S. I’m still not done with Charming. Finishing this book is taking so loong! Bah!

  2. I read the first book in the series and really liked it. I’ve had the second on TBR for awhile but keep putting it off. I ‘ll have to pick it and get caught up with the series.
    Thanks for another great giveaway.

  3. I haven’t read any books from the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews or Jaqueline Carey’s Kushiel novels. I’l have to check them out.

I have Blood Kin on my shelf. I would love to get another book in the series.

    Thanks for hosting the giveaway.
