Lucky Harbor, Book 1
Synopsis: Maddie Moore’s whole life needs a makeover.
In one fell swoop, Maddie loses her boyfriend (her decision) and her job (so not her decision). But rather than drowning her sorrows in bags of potato chips, Maddie leaves L.A. to claim the inheritance left by her free-spirited mother—a ramshackle inn nestled in the little coastal town of Lucky Harbor, Washington.
Starting over won’t be easy. Yet Maddie sees the potential for a new home and a new career—if only she can convince her two half-sisters to join her in the adventure. But convincing Tara and Chloe will be difficult because the inn needs a big makeover too.
The contractor Maddie hires is a tall, dark-haired hottie whose eyes—and mouth—are making it hard for her to remember that she’s sworn off men. Even harder will be Maddie’s struggles to overcome the past, though she’s about to discover that there’s no better place to call home than Lucky Harbor.
Review: I have always heard many great things about Jill Shalvis novels and I confess that I was curious to be able to get into one of her novels. The opportunity presented itself with the reprint of the French translation of the Lucky Harbor series and I was really happy to discover Irresistible.
Phoebe, Maddie Chloe and Tara’s mother, died not a long time ago and the girls do not know each other very well (different fathers) but they all have a legacy with a part of their mother’s hotel. But then, while Maddie is more than determined to make this place bloom again, her sisters do not think of it and just want to sell the place. It’s very easy to connect to Maddie, to see her desire to have a connection with her mother, to show her sisters that yes, it’s worth it even if it’s a lot of work and seeing her mistrust towards men after all that she has undergone. Yes, Maddie is a character full of depth and complexity and who hopes to finally become the person she desires and no longer to undergo the actions of others.
We learn to discover the three sisters and their stories. We finally see them living together and understanding the other. They are all different and yet they complement each other very well. Of course, they also have many secrets and we learn them little by little and their consequences. And then we have Jax … Ah what about this man except that we would like one for ourself? Jax also has many secrets but it’s touching to see his relationship with Maddie, to see his patience even if it is a bit complicated. They will try to write a story together despite everything.
You understand that it was lovely romance as well as a very pleasant story to read and I really had a good time. I am curious to see what the author reserves us for the sequels of the series and I will read the next volume with pleasure. I got taken away in the story from the beginning and I really enjoyed all the characters that I can not wait to see again!
