Hidden Legacy, Book 2
Synopsis: Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she’s used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family’s detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor “Mad” Rogan.
Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …
Review: The Ilona Andrews couple is capable of making extraordinary novels! I loved the first volume of the Hidden Legacy series… I was therefore looking forward to getting into this second novel to see what we would have and I can tell you that I’m not disappointed!
Nevada finds herself with a new deal far more dangerous than she might think. Cornelius’s wife was murdered and it seems that no one is really interested by this case. Yet her husband really wants to know the truth about the events but also wants to know the identity of the killer to make him pay. That’s what Nevada will need to do! Yet nothing will be simple when this murder is intimately linked to the biggest houses and that many people are ready to do anything to stop her. Luckily for her, Mad Rogan will once again be on her way to help her and maybe even more.
I loved this story and I was carried away by the story from the first chapter. Nevada has to deal with a great deal of upheaval, be it at the level of her family, her relationship with Rogan or her coming out of the high society she should be careful not to do so. I loved to find the characters of the first novel again, to see Nevada understand that finally nothing would never be the same as before but that she has to face decisions that could change the future of her whole family. And what about Rogan? He is a very complex man and we are still waiting impatiently to see how they will interact and what relationship will result. It’s kind of funny to see how they both act, even though we understand Nevada’s distrust. We also see the evolution of the powers of the young woman and it was quite impressive to see what she was capable of especially knowing that she is still at her beginning. The survey was very engaging and it allows us to have a greater insight into the world in which the characters evolve. Nothing is simple and yet Nevada always tries to do her best.
As I said, I had a great time and I loved the story from beginning to end. It is in fact very difficult to let go before finishing it, you will see! It was a real surprise and I really look forward to having the next one in my hands.
