Blaze by Suzanne Wright

Dark in You, Book 2

Synopsis: Defeat the enemy. Win the boy. Live happily ever after. But life “ever after” isn’t as easy as it used to be. Harper’s gone from being a member of a small demon lair to co-Prime of one of the most powerful lairs in the US with a mate who, though hot as hell, is just a mite overprotective – I mean, you get kidnapped by dark practitioners just once …

Then one of Knox’s demons goes rogue, and in his madness decides Knox Thorne must die. Harper’s worried. Knox isn’t – at least until he discovers his mate’s willingness to get between him and danger.

Now, Knox has a new priority: Keep Harper safe …no matter what it takes. But Harper begins to suspect there’s more danger than one rogue demon. It seems the combined strength of Harper and Knox has upset the balance of power in the demon world and there are those who are determined to right that wrong. Because when you move up the food chain, sometimes the other predators just want to take a bigger bite.

Review: I confess that I was surprised when I saw that we were following Harper and Knox again. I was expecting the classic paranormal romance pattern, with a couple in each volume. But no, and I am very happy because I could learn more about them.

We find them soon after the end of the previous volume, having to deal with new problems. Indeed, a demon has kidnapped Carla, Harper’s mother, to punish her for being her mother. Indeed, he had a vision in which he would have seen that the child of Harper and Knox would destroy them all. Taking this fact for granted, it is his mission to destroy the demon in any way whatsoever, or to prevent the conception if he does not succeed. In addition to that, Harper must also manage her new status that does not please everyone and especially to women who believe themselves superior to her and who are hoping to take her place with Knox.

It was very nice to see Harper’s place in this new environment. She is determined and understands perfectly that she must fight her own battles. She does not break and even if she does not necessarily appreciate being in the spotlight, she adapts. Knox also tries to compromise by trying to be the person she wants him to although it is really very difficult for him, especially when their lives are threatened.

I really had a good time with this second volume. We can see the evolution of the Harper-Knox couple and we gradually discover the conspiracies that exist in the demons society. I had several surprises but there are still a few bad guys to unmask and I’m really looking forward to know their identity.

It was a very good second volume, I think I even preferred it to the first one and I’m looking forward to reading the last one now!

  1. I love that she writes multiple books about Knox and Harper. It allows for a deeper relationship, a more complex and layered story as well. I’m happy you loved it. I can’t wait to read this book, it’s been waiting on my kindle for me to finally have time. 😀

  2. I didn’t even know this series existed. I’ve been reading her Phoenix Pack/Mercury Pack for years. Glad you enjoyed this one. I would’ve thought PNR too. Oh well, whatever works for the story, right? Great review.
