Deadman’s Cross Trilogy, Book 1
Synopsis: Hell On Earth
When the Chthonians brought the primal gods to a truce at the end of their great war, part of the pact they forged was that the worst of the evil the gods had unleashed against each other and mankind would be forever banished.
But forever is a long time. And nothing can contain those determined to find a way back.
To catch evil, it takes evil . . .
While Thorn is able to contain the demons unleashed on the ground, the ones who prey on the innocent sailors and sea faring travelers are beyond his reach.
For the sake of humanity, he makes a shaky alliance with an old foe, Marcelina. In the form of the ship they sail upon, she assembles a team under the command of Captain Devlyn Nathaniel Bane, one of the most notorious and bloodthirsty pirates to ever sail the high seas.
Damned and murdered by his own, Bane is out for revenge. With his own secret agenda, he agrees to take charge of the motley crew of pirates and brigands, and to protect the seas from the preternatural terrors that seek to devour every unwary soul they can take.
Theirs is a sacred and deadly task, as they are hunted by their prey and human authorities alike. If they fail, the world will fall to the ancient gods of chaos, and anarchy will reign. Most of all, the Southern gate, where the greatest, most powerful darkness is imprisoned, will be opened and there will be no stopping it.
It’s yo ho ho and a bottle of high seas stakes where the souls of all humanity are the ultimate prize and bargaining chip.
Review: I did read a few Sherrilyn Kenyon novels in her Dark Hunters series that I enjoyed. After a certain number of books I confess that I stopped because I needed a renewal that I was lacking. I however had a good time with the series and when the announcement of a new one was made, I confess that I was intrigued. How not to be especially with the mention of pirates?
I did not expect it, but this series is a new spin off from the Dark Hunters series. We have some small references to the story and I found it nice enough to link everything in this way (but you can start with this series without a problem). In this novel, we follow many characters and especially a young woman who hopes to find her brother. In this way, we discover a crew of damned persons who sails on the waters to help Humanity.
I admit that I had a lot of trouble following all the characters, there may have been a lot for me and I was sometimes a little lost, especially if you add the nicknames of several of them . But it’s mostly a personal problem and I know it will be different for others. The idea of pirates, creatures was very interesting and I think the novel will appeal to many fans! I loved the ideas anyway, especially the links between the characters and I wonder how the whole will evolve especially after this end.
Wow! There sure are a lot of books from her series and now a spin-off. Someday I might get to her books.
Glad you enjoyed this new series. 🙂
she already has a few spin off in this series
I love the dark hunter series but haven’t tried this series yet.
you should try that!
I had the same issue you did <3
complicated
Sorry you had some trouble with this but I’m glad that you liked it!
thanks
I have not read any of her books. I heard great things about the Dark Hunter series, but I am not sure if and when I will start it.
Haven’t tried anything from this author yet, but it sure sounds good even the issues you had.
Another spin off? Huh
right? I was surprised
Oh, I like that cover. I might give this a try one day.
Awesome review, Melliane. Love your review. I love this author too. Need to read this series. I’m currently collecting great paranormal/urban fantasy books. I see you are a huge fan of this genre. Please recommend me your favorites.
I really loved this book, it was something different and very interesting. I didn’t experience your issues, but I’m glad you still enjoyed it and liked the concept 🙂
I’m glad you didn’t have this problem yourself
I was in the same boat as you with the Dark Hunters. I had to let them go after a while because they weren’t unique enough from each other. I have this one on my to be read list and can’t wait to get to it.
Great review! 🙂
yes that was my problem
I really want to start reading this author. I have heard great things about Sherrilyn Kenyon but haven’t fit her books into my schedule yet. I will have to remember that this is a spin off series.
there are just little mentions
Oooo. I love that cover! Sounds like a good one. She’s an author I’ve been wanting to try. Thanks for sharing!
I had no idea this was a spinoff! I just saw that it was a new series and I was actually really curious about it but had to pass because of my already huge tbr. I’m still somewhat intrigued, despite the caveat about all the characters to follow. I can never resist pirates 😀
it’s not a problem that it is a spin off, it is from far
I’ve wanted to try this author, but the shear number of books in her main series keeps me from starting it. I get frustrated when there are a lot of characters and then they have more than one name they go by (be it sometimes calling them by a last name or a nickname or whatever). It seems to make the cast double. Glad you were able to enjoy it. Great review.
yes complicated…
That is one AWESOME cover.
