Evil Games by Angela Marsons

DI Kim Stone, Book 2

Synopsis: The greater the Evil, the more deadly the game…

When a rapist is found mutilated in a brutal attack, Detective Kim Stone and her team are called in to bring a swift resolution. But, as more vengeful killings come to light, it soon becomes clear that there is someone far more sinister at work.

With the investigation quickly gathering momentum, Kim finds herself exposed to great danger and in the sights of a lethal individual undertaking their own twisted experiment.

Up against a sociopath who seems to know her every weakness, for Detective Stone, each move she makes could be deadly. As the body count starts to mount, Kim will have to dig deeper than ever before to stop the killing. And this time – it’s personal.

The rising star of the British thriller scene returns with a novel that enthrall fans of Rachel Abbott, Val McDermid and Mark Billingham.

Review: The first volume was a nice surprise, so I was eager to get into this new installment.

Kim Stone likes to get to the bottom of her cases, but the latest one is far from easy. Indeed, our heroine has to deal with two cases: a pedophilia story that is very difficult to handle and Alex Thorne, a very strange psychiatrist. But here is, to go after this woman, it is also to face her past, and it may be a bit too much for Kim. What if she goes back into the turmoil?

This novel was very interesting even though the atmosphere remains very unhealthy from beginning to end. I was uncomfortable reading it, but at the same time I found it fascinating to discover Kim’s story, her past. I also wonder what she will do now.

I saw in the summary of the next volumes that Alex will be present in some of the stories and I am very curious to see what she will do to get back to Kim.

A very nice second volume.
