Synopsis: If you want to survive, you have to follow the rules…

Mikayla Morgan is wanted for her mother’s murder. She’s been on the run for almost a year now, avoiding not only the police but the real killer. Tired of running and desperate to clear her name, she breaks one of the most sacred rules: never return to the scene of the crime.

Review: I heard several times about Jus Accardo but it’s true that I never tried one of her books so far. I did not read a lot of New Adult novels, but this book gave me the opportunity to return to the genre and I must say I took a lot of fun with it.

Kayla ran away all her life with her mother without really knowing why. Never staying long in one place and following a bunch of rules established to not get caught. But now it’s been a year since her mother was killed, and Kayla is now alone and is still running away from the police who is convinced that she is the killer and from the bounty hunters who want to recover her against money, but she comes back home. Yes, because the young woman knows that her mother left her some information in their old house, and Kayla is determined to clear her name and prove her innocence. However, nothing will be easy and by breaking the first rule, she discovers a letter but looses it when Patrick and Shaun, two bounty hunters who pursued her her entire life, manages to stop her. But they do not seem to be alone in wanting to catch her and when others are ready to bring her dead, the young woman will soon have to find a solution. But by an unfortunate chance, the irresistible Shaun and she are found tied up, and for the first time in her life, she will have to learn to trust someone to discover the truth about her history and her mother’s.

From the beginning of the story I understood certain facts which are subsequently confirmed thereafter, but we also have many revelations throughout the novel and I really enjoyed discovering more about Kayla and Shaun. The story of the young woman intrigues us and keeps us in suspense throughout the novel as we want as much as she to discover the truth. It is difficult to know who she can trust and with the life she had, we understand her distrust. She has a lot of assets in terms of survival and at the same time, we perfectly feel that her solitude weighs on her. But Shaun is also something different. It is quite difficult at the beginning of the story to understand what he really wants. Yes because he always seems arrogant, always explaining how handsome he is, and at the same time there is much more than that. Of course, he is charming, but he will also do anything to help Kayla to find the truth of what happened. They go out together in a mad rush, attached to one another by handcuffs. You can imagine that we will find them very quickly in completely comical situations. Oh yes, because I was surprised that the handcuffs remained throughout the whole story. A nice relationship appears between them then evolves throughout the novel and it is true that it was quite touching to see all that.

Throughout the chapters, we will discover the truth about the Kayla’s existence, Shaun’s past and the history of the mother of the girl. Everything was really interesting and it’s true that I did not put the book before knowing everything. A great surprise for me!

Quand les choses prennent un virage drastique, Shaun fait la seule chose à laquelle il peut penser pour la garder auprès de lui et la menotte à son poignet.

Comme le danger augmente et que le tueur se rapproche, l’alchimie entre eux menace d’exploser. Shaun et Kayla devront briser toutes les règles s’ils veulent sortir de tout cela en vie.

Avis: J’avais entendu plusieurs fois parler de Jus Accardo mais c’est vrai que je n’ai jamais tenté un de ses livres jusque-là. Je n’ai pas non plus lu énormément de New Adult, mais ce livre m’a donné l’occasion de revenir au genre et je dois dire que j’en ai pris beaucoup de plaisir.

Kayla a fui toute sa vie avec sa mère sans vraiment savoir pourquoi. Ne restant jamais longtemps à un endroit et suivant tout un tas de règles établies pour ne pas se faire attraper. Mais voilà un an depuis que sa mère a été tuée, et Kayla se retrouve maintenant seule et ayant continué à fuir devant les policiers qui sont persuadés qu’elle est le tueur et devant les chasseurs de primes qui veulent la récupérer contre de l’argent, elle rentre chez elle. Oui, parce que la jeune femme sait que sa mère lui a laissé des informations dans leur ancienne maison, et Kayla est bien décidée à laver son nom et ainsi prouver son innocence. Pourtant, rien ne sera facile et en brisant la première règle, elle découvre une lettre chez elle, lettre qu’elle perd quand Patrick et Shaun, deux chasseurs de primes qui l’ont poursuivi toute sa vie, se présentent pour l’arrêter. Mais ils ne semblent pas être les seuls à vouloir l’attraper et quand d’autres sont prêts à la ramener morte, il va vite falloir que la jeune femme trouve une solution. Mais par un malencontreux hasard, l’irrésistible Shaun et elle se retrouvent ligotés, et pour la première fois de sa vie, elle va devoir apprendre à faire confiance à quelqu’un pour découvrir la vérité sur son histoire et celle de sa mère.

Dès le début de l’histoire j’ai compris certains faits qui sont confirmés par la suite, mais nous avons aussi un grand nombre de révélations tout au long du roman et j’ai pris beaucoup de plaisir à découvrir Kayla et Shaun. L’histoire de la jeune femme nous intrigue et nous garde en haleine tout au long du roman comme nous voulons autant qu’elle découvrir la vérité. Il est difficile de savoir en qui elle peut faire confiance et de par sa vie, on comprend parfaitement sa méfiance. Elle possède un grand nombre d’atouts pour ce qui est de survivre et en même temps, on sent parfaitement que sa solitude lui pèse. Mais Shaun a lui aussi quelque chose de différent. C’est assez difficile au début de l’histoire de comprendre ce qu’il veut réellement. Oui parce qu’il semble toujours imbu de lui-même, à expliquer à quel point il est beau, et en même temps il y a bien plus que ça. Bien sûr, il est charmant, mais il fera aussi tout pour aider Kayla à trouver la vérité quoi qu’il se passe. Ils vont partir ensemble dans une course folle, attachés l’un à l’autre par des menottes. Vous vous doutez que nous retrouverons très vite les deux dans des situations complètement cocasses. Oh oui parce que j’ai été surprise que la situation reste ainsi tout au long de l’histoire. Une jolie histoire naîtra entre les deux et évoluera tout au long du roman et c’est vrai que c’était assez touchant de voir cette relation naître entre les personnages.

Au fil des chapitres, on découvrira la vérité sur l’existence même de Kayla, sur le passé de Shaun et sur l’histoire de la mère de la jeune fille. Le tout était vraiment très intéressant et c’est vrai que je n’ai pas posé le livre avant de savoir tout ce qu’il en était réellement. Une très bonne surprise pour moi !
