Lacey Luzzi: Sprinkled, is a full-length, laugh-out-loud, humorous cozy mystery with a strong female protagonist in the spirit of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum, albeit one working for the wrong side of the law…

Review: Looking for something to read available on Kindle Unlimited, I found this book which attracted me with its comparison with the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. As you can see, the comparison is made in the summary of the book by the author and or editor; I hope, moreover, that Janet Evanovich is aware of the use of her name…

The story is different from the Stephanie Plum one as the heroine, Lacey, works for the mafia and is not on the same side of the law. However, my reading was spoiled because of a blatant plagiarism of the characters. Lacey’s best friend  is very round, very mouthy… is the copy of Stephanie’s best friend Lula. The beautiful mysterious guy who greeted her with a single word (Doll) is a copy of Ranger (he says babe).

About the story, there are things that I have a problem with. Her mother had hidden from her family her whole life to the point of working as a stripper but apparently remained in the same city… (weird) Lacey found and joined the family without worrying about the reasons for her mother to run away (weird too). Lacey is separated from her ex-boyfriend because she did not want to introduce him to her family but she brings a man she barely knows for dinner (actually 2 different men on the same day, one for lunch and one for dinner!)

When I guessed where the bag of “good stuff” that she had to find was (and frankly it was obvious), I felt like banging my head against the wall because Lacey has clearly not understood . Anyway, she does not even know what she is looking for as she did not read the file; she is looking for a bag of “good stuff” whatever it may be.

I am very disappointed and I can not recommend this book.

la vie de Lacey Luzzi a été de vraies montagnes russes, allant des plus hauts sommets aux plus bas. Elle ne s’était pas attendue à des bas si… brillants.

Après une chute sur son visage lors d’une tentative de reprendre l’emploi de stripteaseuse de sa mère récemment décédée, Lacey se rend compte qu’elle n’est pas faite pour la vie sur scène. Elle se lance dans une enquête d’un an pour trouver sa vraie famille, ne s’attendant pas à la trouver avec un grand “F.”

Avec un estomac qui gronde, un besoin d’argent (vérifier les lumières de moteur de sa voiture ne les réparent pas!), et une conscience qui fonctionne à 78% sur une bonne journée, Lacey est aspirée dans un tourbillon de secrets de Famille, de cookies dur-comme-du-ciment, et d’hommes mystérieux et sexy qui ont malheureusement des armes, parfois visant son visage. La petite fille de Carlos Luzzi, le parrain de la mafia italienne, a disparu depuis longtemps. Lacey accepte donc sa première mission, c’est-à-dire retrouver un sac rempli de « bonnes choses » valant 15 millions de dollars.

Même après avoir appelé à l’aide sa meilleurs amie à la grande geule et à l’aide de sa meilleure amie à la grande gueule et son cousin, un génie technique et désastre social, elle trouve que frayer avec la mafia russe rivale est plus dangereux que prévu.

Personne ne choisit sa famille, mais Lacey Luzzi aura de la chance si elle peut lui survivre.

Lacey Luzzi: Sprinkled, est un cozy mystery plein d’humour avec un fort personnage féminin dans l’esprit de Stephanie Plum de Janet Evanovich, quoique travaillant pour le mauvais côté de la loi…

Avis : En cherchant quelque chose de disponible à lire sur Kindle Unlimited, j’ai trouvé ce livre qui m’a attiré grâce à la comparaison avec la série Stephanie Plum de Janet Evanovitch. Comme vous le voyez, la comparaison est faite dans le résumé du livre par l’auteur et/ou éditeur; j’espère d’ailleurs que Janet Evanovitch est au courant de l’utilisation de son nom…

L’histoire est différente de la série Stephanie Plum car ici l’héroïne, Lacey, travaille pour la mafia et n’est donc pas du même côté que la loi. Cependant, ma lecture a été gâchée à cause d’un plagiat flagrant des personnages. La meilleure amie de Lacey est très ronde, très grande gueule…, c’est la copie de Lula la meilleure amie de Stephanie. Le beau mec mystérieux qui lui dit bonjour d’un seul mot (Poupée) est la copie de Ranger (il dit bébé).

Au sujet de l’histoire, il y a des choses qui me posent problème. Sa mère s’est cachée de sa famille toute sa vie au point de travailler comme stripteaseuse mais est apparemment restée dans la même ville… (Bizarre) Lacey retrouve et rejoint cette famille sans se préoccuper des raisons de sa mère pour la fuir. (Bizarre aussi) Lacey est séparée de son ex petit-ami car elle ne voulait pas le présenter à sa famille mais elle amène un homme qu’elle connait à peine à un diner avec cette même famille (en fait 2 hommes différents le même jour, un pour le déjeuner et un au diner!)

Quand j’ai deviné où était le sac de “bonnes choses” qu’elle devait retrouver (et c’était franchement évident), j’ai eu envie de me taper la tête contre le mur car Lacey ne l’a évidemment pas compris. De toute façon, elle ne sait même pas ce qu’elle cherche car elle n’a pas lu le dossier; elle cherche un sac de “bonnes choses” quoi que ça puisse être.

Je suis très déçue et je ne peux donc pas vous recommander ce livre.
