Kiss Of Steel (London Steampunk, 1) – Bec McMaster

When Nowhere Is Safe

Most people avoid the dreaded Whitechapel district. For Honoria Todd, it’s the last safe haven. But at what price?

Blade is known as the master of the rookeries—no one dares cross him. It’s been said he faced down the Echelon’s army single-handedly, that ever since being infected by the blood-craving he’s been quicker, stronger, and almost immortal.

When Honoria shows up at his door, his tenuous control comes close to snapping. She’s so…innocent. He doesn’t see her backbone of steel—or that she could be the very salvation he’s been seeking.

Tarnished Knight (London Steampunk, 1.5) – Bec McMaster

In the steam-fuelled world of Victorian London, vampires, werewolves and slasher gangs stalk the night and a man made partly of metal is about to discover just how far he’ll go to protect the woman he loves…

After a vicious vampire attack left him struggling to leash the dark urges of the craving virus, John “Rip” Doolan thinks he’s finally starting to master the darkness within. The only thing that threatens to shatter his hard-won control is Esme, his closest friend and the only woman he’s ever wanted. If the stubborn beauty ever realized precisely what was going through his mind, their friendship would be ruined.

For six months, Esme has waited for Rip to recover and take her as his thrall, not daring to hope for more. Too afraid to put her heart on the line, she is devastated when Rip reveals that he never had any intentions of making her his.

But when a savage gang of Slashers start causing havoc in Whitechapel, Rip and Esme have no choice. They must face up to the depth of the passion that burns between them and forge a new relationship…or risk losing each other forever.

Angelopolis (Angelology, 2) – Danielle Trusson

A decade has passed since Verlaine saw Evangeline alight from the Brooklyn Bridge, the sight of her new wings a betrayal that haunts him still. Now an elite angel hunter for the Society of Angelology, he pursues his mission with single-minded devotion: to capture, imprison, and eliminate her kind.

But when Evangeline suddenly appears on a twilit Paris street, Verlaine finds her nature to be unlike any of the other creatures he so mercilessly pursues, casting him into a spiral of doubt and confusion that only grows when she is abducted before his eyes by a creature who has topped the society’s most-wanted list for more than a century. The ensuing chase drives Verlaine and his fellow angelologists from the shadows of the Eiffel Tower to the palaces of St. Petersburg and deep into the provinces of Siberia and the Black Sea coast, where the truth of Evangeline’s origins—as well as forces that could restore or annihilate them all—lie in wait.

Conceived against an astonishing fresh tableau of history and science, Angelopolis plumbs Russia’s imperial past, modern genetics, and ancient depictions of that most potent angelic appearance—the Annunciation of Gabriel—in a high-octane tale of abduction, treasure seeking, and divine warfare as the fate of humanity once again hangs in the balance.

Bitter Disenchantment (Coveted 0.4) – Shawntelle Madison

Werewolf Natalya Stravinsky’s outspoken sidekick, Aggie McClure, is featured in this prequel novella. Before Agatha set foot in South Toms River, New Jersey, she had the fight of her life to face. Destined to be the alpha female over her Manhattan pack, Aggie was fully prepared to take on her role until her father arranges a marriage without her consent. She wants out–but the only way is with money–something her new controlling husband won’t give her to escape. But such odds never kept a wolf like Aggie down. To sever the twisted tie, she finds herself pitted against raging wood nymphs and backstabbing brownies in an underground supernatural fighting ring. With every victory, the sweet taste of freedom is closer, but her husband isn’t willing to let her go that easily. Until the very end, Aggie must fight for the one thing she’s never had: a choice.

Shapeshifted (Edie Spence, 3) – Cassie Alexander

When Edie was fired from her paranormal nursing job at County Hospital, her whole world came crashing down. Now she’s is once again shaken to her core. Her mother is deathly ill and there’s only one thing that will save her: vampire blood. Coveted, Book 2

Synopsis: Fresh from defending her pack in battle, Natalya Stravinsky, a whip-smart werewolf with a lovable neurotic streak, wants a little rest and relaxation. Once an outcast, she’s now eager to rejoin the ranks of her New Jersey pack, and has even gotten a handle on her obsessive urge to hoard holiday ornaments. Yet Nat barely has time to revel in her progress before the next crisis comes howling at her door.

Nat’s father has suddenly gone missing, captured by the Russian werewolf mafia. And as Nat steps up to save her dad from a mob boss’s deadly game, two men step in to play another round for her heart: her gorgeous alpha ex-boyfriend, Thorn, and her new flame, the sweetly sensitive wizard Nick. With her life growing more harried by the minute, Nat must stay cool, calm, and collected . . . or else risk losing everything.

Review:I must say that I was completely blown away by this book. I liked the first one but I didn’t expect to completely succumb to this second volume. Once I had the opportunity to get into the story after a few sentences I could not put it down until the end as I wanted to know and understand everything.

Nat hoped to return to a quiet life after the terrible events of the first volume, but her fate does not seem to want to follow her desire. After her brother, it is the turn of her father to disappear as soon as we start the novel. Worried, she realizes that her father went to repay an old debt from a Russian mobster. But without any news, she leaves with Alex, her brother in Atlanta City to find him. What she did not expect was certainly the presence of Thorn as he is determined to come and help whatever she might think. It really warms my heart to see how he cares about her to the point that he is ready to leave everything behind to help her, even a furious Erica. But no, he will be there for her and will do anything to help Natalya. The only problem? His presence shows again and again to our heroine the only thing she wants the most in the world and can not have. She realizes that she must move on and leave him behind but his constant presence is not helping things. And when she tries to make him understand this fact, Thorn stay quite deaf to her demands, wanting only to protect her. It hurts so much to see her like that, constantly asking herself many questions, trying to understand how she should act, and especially trying to control herself so he does not realize how he destabilizes her. We fully understand the motivations of each but that does not change the situation either. And while she managed to save her father and to change her place with his, her whole world is turned upside down. The child born, Alex is forced to leave her alone, Thorn returns at home to accompany her father who is in a bad posture, which leaves us with a Nat; who needs to meet the demands of the mafia, alone. In fact, to erase the debt of her father, she must make a convoy that seems more dangerous than it seems. But even in the worst case, she still has friends to turn to, like Nick, Heidi and our beloved muse who will be there for her in the worst moments. The convoy will help our heroine to evolve. I was really happy to see that she could take herself in charge, trying to deal alone with the situations in which she is placed. Being away from Thorn is going to be very effective, and Nick will also do anything to help her.

We encounter new creatures in this novel and it’s true that I’m really intrigued by their power and all the things they can do. It was a really good idea to introduce them here and we only want more. Shawntelle Madison knows beautifully how to play on the feelings of the reader. I was completely swept away at every opportunity. We cry, we laugh, but it is especially sad for our heroine. Her life is not easy and some persons seem to take pleasure by demolishing her at every opportunity. However, the end was a nice surprise and we could not wish for better things for Natalya. I really look forward to discover the third volume of the series. This book was truly a sublime discovery and this is a new series I’ll follow now. I loved it!

Coveted, Tome 2

Coveted, Book 1

Synopsis: SOMETIMES WHAT YOU COVET IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP.

For werewolf Natalya Stravinsky, the supernatural is nothing extraordinary. What does seem strange is that she’s stuck in her hometown of South Toms River, New Jersey, the outcast of her pack, selling antiques to finicky magical creatures. Restless and recovering from her split with gorgeous ex-boyfriend, Thorn, Nat finds comfort in an unusual place: her obsessively collected stash of holiday trinkets. But complications pile up faster than her ornaments when Thorn returns home—and the two discover that the spark between them remains intense.

Before Nat can sort out their relationship, she must face a more immediate and dangerous problem. Her pack is under attack from the savage Long Island werewolves—and Nat is their first target in a turf war. Toss in a handsome wizard vying for her affection, a therapy group for the anxious and enchanted, and the South Toms River pack leader ready to throw her to the wolves, and it’s enough to give anybody a panic attack. With the stakes as high as the full moon, Nat must summon all of her strength to save her pack and, ultimately, herself.

Review: When Angie recommends me a book, I’m not picky and I get into it as soon as I can. I confess that I was a little anxious after reading a mixed review about this first novel, and I didn’t therefore know what I could expect. However, I was very surprised and I really enjoyed this first volume.

Our young heroine Natalya is a werewolf excluded from her pack and who lives on the fringes of society. It is indeed something really difficult for her as she is rejected by everyone. Besides her OCDs make her life even more complicated. Indeed, her home needs to be clean in all circumstances, and she can’t help herself to buy some trinkets she considers part of her family. She is also a member of a therapy to try to resolve this, but everything is more complicated than she thought. I was quite surprised by this heroine, I never had the opportunity to read something about a character like her. The OCDs aren’t really featured in literature and this is the first time I meet someone with some in a novel. It was interesting to see how she faces her problems and how it influences her daily life. Nat is a character pleasant to discover but it is true that we would sometimes like to shake her so she can realize what is happening and therefore shows what she can do. However, she remains somewhat in the background, while trying to act as she can. She is a fragile woman and we hope that time will help her to overcome her fears.

But back to the story… her life will change dramatically when the werewolves of another country travel to the city and mark her. Their leader wants her but she doesn’t understand why. I confess that I made many assumptions about that, thinking about all the possibilities and I was totally surprised when I learned the truth. I didn’t even think of it.

We also discover two men, Thorn and Nick. These two characters are really intriguing and I admit I had a soft spot for both of them. However, the attitude of Thorn annoyed me a little. He has a weakness for Nat while engaged with another woman. And while she tries to ignore their former relationship, he is always there, present to remind her that she can’t have him. At the same time, he will do everything for her, trying to save her as he can. Nick meanwhile is a wizard who also have some OCDs, but a little different from the ones of our heroine. While he does not know her well, he will not hesitate to put himself in danger to help her and will do anything to make her work on her therapy. I loved this character, He is soft and discreet at the same time. He manages to take more and more space in the life of our heroine without we really notice it.

It was a nice first book and I am now curious to discover more.

Coveted, Tome 1

But an age of corruption has come to the land, threatening their peace and placing the Samarians in grave danger. Their only hope lies in the crowning of a new Archangel. The oracles have chosen for this honor the angel named Gabriel, and further decreed that he must first wed a mortal woman named Rachel.

It is his destiny and hers. And Gabriel is certain that she will greet the news of her betrothal with enthusiasm, and a devotion to duty equal to his own.

Rachel, however, has other ideas…
