The Edge of Never, Book 2

Synopsis: Five months ago, Camryn and Andrew, both dealing with personal hardships, met on a Greyhound bus. They fell in love and proved that when two people are meant to be together, fate will find a way to make it happen.

Now, in the highly anticipated sequel to The Edge of Never, Camryn and Andrew are pursuing their love for music and living life to the fullest as they always swore to do. But when tragedy befalls them, their relationship is put to the ultimate test. As Camryn tries to numb her pain, Andrew makes a bold decision: To get their life back on track, they’ll set out on another cross-country road trip. Together they find excitement, passion, adventure-and challenges they never could have anticipated.

Review: I was really excited to start this novel after a first book that I really loved, but I must say I was quite disappointed by this new volume… In the last novel, I think we had the advantage of discovering the characters and we had an original story. Here, it is a little different and we don’t have any surprises, as the novel uses the same ideas as the previous one. But you’ll quickly understand the reason. However, this is not bad book either, but it’s true that I really expected more, given my great enthusiasm for the first volume.

We thus find our two heroes Andrew and Camryn, back after their trip, trying to return to a somewhat normal routine. Both very happy as the woman is waiting for a baby. Indeed, we follow them in the beginning of the story, between the appointments with the doctor and the choice of the name. From the start, I knew that Camryn was going to lose her daughter, because I couldn’t imagine them leaving on a road trip with a child, and this is of course what happens rather quickly. And then begins a difficult period for our two young heroes, until Andrew decides to leave with Camryn and the car to return in some places they have already seen and some new. A journey that will solve their problems and will help to cope with the disappearance of their daughter.

As you can see, the story is much like the first one and this is surely why I struggled to get into it and to hold on to what was happening. Their road trip is not as interesting as the first one which had greatly affected me, so this time I remained a little behind everything. Yet Carwyn and Andrew evolve a lot here as well and it was interesting to see these people growing and becoming more responsible. We discover the fears of the two characters and the way they will face them. I also enjoyed the end of the story and especially the change of point of view to this third character that allows us to see a part of their future.

So it was an interesting book to read but I’m still quite mixed by it.

Loin de tout, Tome 2

Ils sont tombés amoureux et ont prouvé que lorsque deux personnes sont faites pour être ensemble, le destin va trouver un moyen pour les réunir.

Maintenant, dans la suite très attendue de The Edge of Never, Camryn et Andrew poursuivent leur amour pour la musique et vivent pleinement leur vie comme ils l’ont toujours juré de faire. Mais quand une tragédie leur arrive, leur relation est mise à l’épreuve ultime. Comme Camryn tente d’oublier la douleur, Andrew prend une décision audacieuse : pour remettre leur vie sur les rails, ils planifient un autre voyage au travers les états. Ensemble, ils trouvent l’excitation, la passion, l’aventure et des défis qu’ils n’auraient jamais pu prévoir.

Avis : J’étais vraiment impatiente de commencer ce roman après la fin du premier tome que j’avais adoré mais je dois dire que j’ai été assez déçue par ce nouveau tome… Dans le tome précédent on avait je pense l’avantage de découvrir les personnages et d’avoir une histoire originale, ici c’est un peu différent et il n’y a pas vraiment de surprise, comme le roman reprend les mêmes idées. Mais vous allez très vite comprendre la raison. Pour autant, ce n’est pas un mauvais livre non, mais c’est vrai que je m’attendais vraiment à plus, étant donné mon grand engouement pour le premier volume.

On retrouve donc nos deux héros Andrew et Camryn, de retour après leur voyage, essayant de revenir à une routine à peu près normale. Tous deux très heureux de l’enfant que la jeune femme attend, on les suivra dans le début de l’histoire entre les rendez-vous chez le médecin et le choix du nom. Dès le début, j’ai su que Camryn allait perdre sa fille, parce que je ne les voyais pas repartir dans un road trip avec un enfant, et c’est bien sûr ce qu’il se passe assez rapidement. Et commence alors un période assez difficile pour nos deux jeunes gens, jusqu’à ce qu’Andrew décide de repartir en voiture avec elle et revenir dans certains endroits qu’ils ont déjà vu. Un voyage qui leur permettra de régler leurs problèmes et de faire face à la disparition de leur petite fille.

Comme vous le voyez, l’histoire ressemble beaucoup à la première et c’est sûrement pourquoi j’ai eu beaucoup de mal à rentrer dedans et à accrocher à ce qu’il se passait. Leur road trip n’est pas aussi intéressant que le premier qui m’avait énormément touché, aussi cette fois je suis restée un peu en retrait de tout. Pourtant Carwyn et Andrew évolueront beaucoup ici aussi et c’était intéressant de les voir grandir et devenir des personnes plus responsables. On découvre ainsi les peurs des deux personnages et la façon dont ils y feront face. J’ai aussi beaucoup apprécié la fin de l’histoire et surtout le changement de point de vue vers ce troisième personnage qui nous permet d’entrapercevoir leur futur à tous les deux.

C’était donc un livre intéressant à lire mais je suis tout de même assez mitigée par le tout.
