Thankfully, her hot new neighbor is more than happy to come to her rescue. But Noah West is a mystery to Spider—and one she intends to solve.

Review: I’ve never read the first novel in the series but having enjoyed the second book, I was curious to discover this one to see the new couple staged here. Indeed, as in the previous story, we once again will have two characters who deal with supernatural problems.

Spider was hired by her boss to take care of his house and his animals (you know, the talking animals we see in book 2), but she is not very good at that, oh no, because they make her crazy every time they can. She would in theory only have to manage them, but of course it’s not all because the neighbor (who is damn sexy) investigates her bosses to see if they are scammers. But even if it was only that because Noah is haunted by a ghost that no one knows about and who seems to manifest herself a lot more lately. And this ghost seems determined to want justice by telling her story, even if the way is not the most relevant.

Emma (Spider) didn’t have an easy life so far and just left her boyfriend who had become a little too obsessive. She now hopes to live free and independent as she has always wanted even if by being the daughter of the chief of police, a lot of people look after her security. It was pretty fun also to see her in some situations. On the other hand we have Noah, quite a pragmatist who does not understand what’s going on in his house but who falls in love with his neighbor when he meets her. This will also open his eyes to many things. Together they will investigate the supernatural apparitions to try to understand what exactly is happening. I liked to know more and I was curious to understand the truth about this ghost story. But of course, a link will appear between the two and even if they’re marked by their past and fear for a new relationship, it was very interesting to see how they fell for the other. I found that even though their relationship is finally quite fast, the author succeeds very well to present a credible and touching story to the reader.

I also admit that I did not expect at all for this purpose and that culprit, I did not see it coming and I loved being surprised at this point. By cons I’m curious to see if we will learn more about Paul, the ex-fiance of Spider as he is quite strange and obsessive with his actions. It was certainly a pleasant and light read, fun to discover. I wonder if the next couple being featured will be about Connor.

Mais il ne faut pas longtemps à l’accidentogène Spider pour perdre un chien, se retrouver enfermée hors de la maison, et déclencher l’alarme !

Heureusement, son nouveau voisin charmant est plus qu’heureux de venir à son secours. Mais Noah West est un mystère pour Spider-et celui-ci, elle a bien l’intention de le résoudre.

Avis : Je n’ai jamais lu le premier tome de la série mais après avoir bien apprécié le deuxième tome, j’étais curieuse de pouvoir découvrir celui-ci et connaître le nouveau couple mis en scène ici. En effet, comme l’histoire précédente, nous avons une fois de plus deux personnages qui vont devoir faire face à des problèmes surnaturels.

Spider a été engagée par son patron pour garder sa maison ainsi que ses animaux (vous savez, les animaux qui parlent avec la femme du monsieur), mais elle n’est pas très douée, oh non, parce qu’ils la font un peu tourner en bourrique à chaque fois qu’ils le peuvent. Elle n’aurait en théorie qu’à les gérer mais bien sûr ce n’est pas tout car le voisin (qui est diablement sexy) enquête sur ses patrons afin de savoir si ce sont des fraudeurs. Mais si encore ce n’était que ça car Noah est hanté par un fantôme, un que personne ne connaît et qui semble se manifester de façon de plus en plus bruyante. Et ce fantôme semble bien déterminé à ce qu’on lui rende justice en racontant son histoire, même si la façon n’est pas la plus pertinente.

Emma (Spider) n’a pas eu une existence facile jusque-là et vient de se séparer de son fiancé qui était devenu un peu trop obsessionnel. Elle espère maintenant pouvoir vivre librement et indépendante comme elle l’a toujours voulu même si étant la fille du chef de la police, un grand nombre de personnes veillent sur sa sécurité. C’était assez amusant d’ailleurs de voir certaines situations. D’un autre côté nous avons Noah, un homme assez pragmatique qui ne comprend pas ce qu’il se passe dans sa maison mais qui tombe sous le charme de sa voisine dès qu’il la rencontre. Cette dernière va d’ailleurs lui ouvrir les yeux sur un grand nombre de choses. Ensemble, ils vont enquêter sur ces apparitions surnaturelles et essayer de comprendre ce qu’il se passe exactement. J’ai beaucoup aimé en savoir plus et j’étais curieuse de comprendre la vérité sur cette histoire de fantômes. Mais bien sûr, un lien va apparaître entre les deux et étant chacun marqué par leur passé et leur peur d’une nouvelle relation, c’était très intéressant de voir une relation se créer petit à petit. J’ai trouvé que même si finalement leur lien se fait assez rapidement, l’auteure parvient très bien à présenter une relation crédible et touchante pour le lecteur.

J’avoue aussi que je ne m’attendais pas du tout à cette fin et à ce coupable, je ne l’ai pas du tout vu venir et j’ai beaucoup aimé être surprise sur ce point-là. Par contre je suis curieuse de voir si nous en apprendrons plus sur Paul, l’ex-fiancé de Spider, après toutes ses actions assez étranges et obsessives. C’était en tout cas une lecture agréable et légère que l’on prend plaisir à découvrir. Je me demande si le prochain couple à être mis en scène sera celui de Connor.

Synopsis: Psychic medium Alexandra King is sick of being pestered by her boss’s dead mother demanding help to reunite her two estranged sons. Determined to get some peace and quiet again, Alexandra follows a lead in finding the younger Collins brother to Charleston, South Carolina, where she immediately meets the hottest man she’s ever laid eyes on and finds herself a willing participant in seduction. Of course, her one-night-stand turns out to be none other than Dylan Collins — her boss’s younger brother and a homicide detective who believes psychics are a complete waste of time.

All Dylan wants is a few hours of pleasure to take his mind off of the case haunting him. A serial killer is stalking the streets of The Holy City — a killer who calls himself The Grim Reaper. When the woman he’d just spent the night with turns up and offers her services as a psychic consultant on the case, his ardor quickly cools. Last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a con artist.

It doesn’t take long for Dylan to realize Alexandra is the real deal – and the killer’s next target. Dylan’s protective instincts battle his reluctance to get too involved with a woman he isn’t sure he can trust. As they get closer to finding the killer, they also grow closer to one another, but will Alexandra’s secret agenda destroy their chance at happiness — if the killer doesn’t strike first?

Review: I did not know anything about the series or the author, but when I saw the second volume on NetGalley, I was quite tempted. Then in regard of the synopsis, I thought it was certainly not so problematic to start with the second novel, although I’m sure that we discover Hannah and Zach in the first one. Yet this book is not really about them and this one is about Zach’s younger brother: Dylan and Alexandra, a Zach’s employee and a friend of Hannah.

It’s been some time that the ghost of the Zach’s mother is begging Alexandra to find her second son to reunite them together. Finally capitulating to her demands, and with the help of her friend, in the back of her boss, our young heroine travels to Charleston to find a track to find Dylan. But when after a one-night stand with a guy she realizes that the man with whom she spent the night is none other than the person she looking for, Alexandra believes it will be an easy mission. If only it was like that… Yes because before telling him the reason for her presence, she decides she is going to get to know him first. And what better way than to participate in his investigation to find a serial killer who seems to hit in a strange way. When Dylan discovers that the young woman became entrenched in his investigation, he can only be suspicious, especially when the lady is known to be a psychic medium, something in which he does not believe. But then a link will be forged between them, and he has to admit that her gifts are not a lie and that she could help to discover the identity of the killer, if she does not become herself the target.

I loved this story and the investigation we follow throughout the chapters. It will take a little time to Alexandra and Dylan to accept one another, especially as the policeman is so skeptical, but it was really interesting to see their relationship evolving like that. We can feel the tension between them from the start, yet they both remain quite suspicious about the other. However, they form a perfect duo and a beautiful couple. Alexandra is determined but does not hesitate to confess her fears while Dylan is like a knight ready to do anything to save her. In terms of the plot, I admit I was really curious to find out who was the mysterious killer. He seems to know a lot of things about her, which means he must be pretty close to them, but we discover his identity at the end of the novel. And I confess that I was really surprised, I did not expect this character. The survey was well done from the beginning to the end of the story, and we remain focused on the mystery that our heroes are trying to decipher. But of course there is much more, and we discover a few more things about the past of Dylan and Zach and the difficulties they had to endure while they were younger. As you can see there are many things happening in this novel, but I’ll leave you the chance to experience it all.

A good plot, an investigation fun to follow, all mixed with magic; it’s a nice discovery. I think I’ll have to try now the first volume.

Résumé (traduction personnelle) : Médium psychique Alexandra King en a marre d’être harcelée par la mère morte de son patron exigeant de l’aide pour réunir ses deux fils brouillés. Déterminée à obtenir un peu de tranquillité, Alexandra fait suite à une initiative pour trouver le frère cadet de Collins à Charleston, Caroline du Sud, où elle rencontre immédiatement l’homme le plus chaud qu’elle ait jamais posé les yeux et un participant volontaire en séduction. Bien sûr, son coup d’une nuit s’avère n’être nul autre que Dylan Collins – le frère cadet de son patron et un détective en homicide qui croit que les médiums sont une perte de temps totale.

Tout ce que Dylan veut, c’est quelques heures de plaisir pour oublier l’affaire qui le hante. Un tueur en série rôde dans les rues de la Ville Sainte – un tueur qui s’appelle lui-même la faucheuse. Lorsque la femme avec qui il venait de passer la nuit se présente et offre ses services en tant que consultante psychique sur l’affaire, son ardeur se refroidit rapidement. La dernière chose dont il a besoin est de s’empêtrer avec un escroc.

Il ne faut pas longtemps à Dylan pour se rendre compte qu’Alexandra est de la vraie affaire – et la prochaine cible du tueur. L’instinct de protection de Dylan affronte sa réticence à trop s’impliquer avec une femme, il n’est pas sûr qu’il puisse lui faire confiance. Comme ils se rapprochent du tueur, ils se rapprochent aussi l’un de l’autre, mais l’agenda secret d’Alexandra détruira-t-il leur chance de bonheur – si le tueur ne frappe pas d’abord ?

Avis : Je ne connaissais pas du tout la série ni l’auteure, mais quand j’ai vu le deuxième tome sur NetGalley, j’ai été assez tentée. Puis au vu du résumé, je me suis dit qu’il n’était sûrement pas si problématique de commencer par le deuxième roman, même si je me doute que l’on découvre Hannah et Zach dans le premier. Pourtant ce livre n’est pas vraiment à leur sujet et l’on suit ici Alexandra, l’employé de Zach et l’amie de Hannah, ainsi que Dylan le frère cadet de Zach.

Cela fait quelques temps que le fantôme de la mère de Zach supplie Alexandra de retrouver son deuxième fils pour les réunir. Capitulant enfin, avec l’aide de son amie et dans le dos de son patron, notre jeune héroïne se rend à Charleston pour retrouver la piste de Dylan. Mais quand après un coup d’un soir elle réalise que l’homme avec qui elle a passé la soirée n’est nulle autre que la personne qu’elle est venue retrouver, Alexandra croit à une simple mission. Si seulement c’était le cas… Oui parce qu’avant de lui annoncer ce qu’elle vient faire ici, elle a décidé qu’elle allait apprendre à le connaître. Et quoi de mieux que de participer à l’enquête qu’il mène pour trouver un sérial killer qui semble frapper de façon assez étrange. Quand Dylan découvre que la jeune femme s’incruste dans son enquête, il ne peut qu’être suspicieux, notamment quand la dame se dit être une médium psychique, chose en quoi il ne croit nullement. Pourtant, alors qu’un lien se forgera entre eux, il devra avouer que ses dons ne sont pas un mensonge et qu’elle pourrait bien l’aider à découvrir l’identité du tueur, si elle ne devient pas elle-même la cible.

J’ai beaucoup aimé cette histoire et l’enquête présente tout au long des chapitres. Il faudra un peu de temps pour Alexandra et Dylan pour s’accepter l’un l’autre, notamment pour ce policier si sceptique, mais c’était vraiment intéressant de voir leur relation évoluer. On sent la tension apparaître entre eux dès le départ, pourtant ils restent tous deux assez méfiants. Ils forment cependant un duo parfait et un couple magnifique. Alexandra est déterminée mais n’hésite pas à avouer ses peurs tandis que Dylan a tout du chevalier prêt à tout pour la sauver. Pour ce qui est de l’intrigue, j’avoue que j’étais vraiment curieuse de découvrir qui était la faucheuse, ce tueur si mystérieux. Il semble au courant d’un grand nombre de choses, ce qui signifie qu’il doit être assez proche d’eux, mais à part cela, nous ne découvrons son identité qu’en fin de roman. Et j’avoue que j’ai été réellement surprise, je ne m’y attendais pas. L’enquête était bien menée du début à la fin de l’histoire, et on reste centré sur ce mystère que nos héros essaient de déchiffrer. Mais bien sûr il y a plus et nous découvrirons un peu plus de choses sur le passé de Dylan et Zach et les difficultés qu’ils ont dû endurer en étant petits. Comme vous le voyez il se passe de nombreuses choses dans ce roman, mais je vous laisserai la chance de découvrir tout cela.

Une bonne intrigue, une enquête que l’on prend plaisir à suivre, le tout mêlé à la magie, une jolie découverte. Il faudra à présent que je me tourne vers le premier tome.
