The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith (VO)

Synopsis: Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan’s life. She’s stuck at JFK, late to her father’s second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley’s never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport’s cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he’s British, and he’s in seat 18C. Hadley’s in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver’s story will make you believe that true love finds you when you’re least expecting it.

Review:  I saw this book a lot on some blogs for a few weeks and I have to say I was very curious to get into this new story. I would like to thank News Book and HachetteJeunesse for giving me the opportunity to discover by myself this amazing book.  It was a beautiful first partnership. Since I read the awesome Celine’s review, I was very curious to get into this book and I’m glad my wish had been granted.
We can read this book quite fast and we also quickly like the Hadley’s character. It was really easy to understand her resentments, her regrets, her admiration… Jennifer E. Smith succeeded to present the feelings of each character, revolting us, touching us or even heart breaking us. We can understand with the chapters the story of our young heroine. She has to go to her father’s wedding in London who is going to marry with a new woman she doesn’t know anything about. But when I say she is really not enchanted about that, it’s still a euphemism. And here it is, she misses her plane, she argues with her mother and now she needs to find another ticket to live as soon as she can. It’s in these conditions that we meet Oliver, this mysterious man who will share a part of the Hadley’s story. Seatmate in the plane, we can discover a part of their life, their meeting and their trip.
I really enjoyed this book, and it was a long time since I hadn’t read something like that. It’s the perfect book to relax and it’s a pleasure to learn some new information about the main characters all along the story. It was a really beautiful story we can read easily and it’s so nice to learn what happens. Of course, we can predict the end of the book but it’s not a problem, no, because there are also some events I didn’t expect at all.

The writing style is really fluid and the trip was a more touching adventure than I thought. Well, it’s true that our characters were attracted to each other a lot too quickly. It’s a fact which bothers always a little, but as I get in the story from the beginning, I didn’t really care about it.

If you want a really cute story, this book is perfect.  It’s a really beautiful discovery.

    • yes it’s nice sometimes, it’s a sweet story. OK the heroine is a little too much uspet or a little too in love but it’s cute. I agree, I think I have a lot of surprises with my last reads.
