Undead, Book 5
Synopsis: I tapped my pencil on the pad, trying to come up with a plan to tell my fiancé, Eric Sinclair, that I had decided to completely give up the blood-drinking thing. I figured being the vampire queen had a few advantages—as it was, every vampire I’d ever known had to drink every day, even Eric. But I could go up to a week without so much as a drop of O-neg. So, in honor of my birthday, and being in this job for a year, I figured I’d give it up completely. I would be in a blood-free zone!
Vampire Queen Betsy Taylor already has plenty on her plate. For one thing, next week is her birthday—the big 3-1 in human years, and one in undead years. (Yes, she bit the dust on her birthday last year.) On top of that, she still has wedding plans to finalize—and it’s not helping that the prospective groom is avoiding anything to do with it. And then there’s her decision to stop drinking blood—something she has yet to share with Eric Sinclair, her fiancé—who also happens to be the vampire king.
The last thing she wants to deal with is uninvited guests, even if they happen to be the powerful European vampires who have finally come to pay their respects the week before her birthday. Some of them don’t want Betsy as their queen and will do anything to get ride of her. As if turning 30 last year (not to mention dying) hadn’t been traumatic enough. And trying to give up blood is making her really cranky.
Review : I always really enjoy everything about paranormal or chick-lit stories, so it’s logical that I really like the mix as well. Plus, the MaryJanice Davidson series is a great example. It’s always a pleasure to follow Betsy and to learn more about her life. And well, this series is always refreshing and piquant. These books allow us to have a lovely pause each time; everything is so fun and so cute, it’s really pleasant to read one novel like that from time to time.
After hearing so many things about the European vampires, I was very happy to finally meet them. But I confess I didn’t expect that at all. It’s not a problem, no, but it’s true I thought we would have more battles, more complots, and maybe some big machinations. I can say I was very surprised by the delegation, mainly by Alonzo. From the start we hate him, to tolerate him after that and finally we like him and I didn’t think it would be possible. It’s a really interesting character, multifaceted. We try to learn more about him all along the book.
Betsy is like always, very cheeky but I have to say she has a lot of problems all the time. Well, I wonder if it wouldn’t be the case, if she wouldn’t be bored by her new life. I also wonder how Sinclair can be so calm with her like that, despite all her new fads. Because of course, they are always more and more extravagant, well you just have to see the last one. We learn a few things about the wedding but it’s really not a lot and I hope it progresses. I have to confess I’m very curious to assist to this big event, and I’m sure it will be very fun!
The story isn’t very complicated, and it’s a pleasure to enjoy all the characters like each time. It’s true Betsy has a special nature and we wonder sometimes if it will change, but it’s what she is.
To conclude, as I say it before, it’s always very nice to read a part of our heroine’s life, and it’s a quite fast and entertaining read. Well, the books aren’t very big either, but it’s a sweet series.

Never would have guessed a vampire book from that cover, haha! Great review, and I think you’re labeling it as a somewhat mediocre, but still enjoyable read?

It’s true, maybe with just the title. I didn’t mean that if it’s what you think. It’s a really nice book, I enjoyed the whole series for now. But it’s not a complex story and it’s quite predictable, it’s for that it’s pleasant to read a novel like that from time to time. I just would have loved to have more action in it I think.

I love reading about paranormal and chick-lit stories too! And I have the biggest weakness for books that are fun and cute (which stems from my weakness for books that make me smile), so I can already tell that I’m going to adore this series! 🙂 <3 Plus, who wouldn't want to read a cute vampire book? SUCH a different wavelength from your usual, dark vamp series! ;)
Awesome review, Mel! 🙂

lol we have the same weakness. Terrible, isn’t it? I love to read a fun story like that so nice after a complex story. It’s exactly that, we understand each other perfectly lol. thank you mimi.

I love this series! It is simple and short but so fun! I always have a nice time and get a good laugh! And that is important to mix into your reading pile as much as those epic reads that make you ball crying! LOL

I agree. I’m sure you’ve read more books than me in the series. Yes I think it’s too much if we read always the same thing.

pour une fois, je préfère les couv de la VF!!

je suis tout a fait d’accord, je les adore! Du coup quand je poste mon avis en français je met la française et j’en profite pour chercher les autres quand je poste en anglais.
