Rock Chick, Book 1

Synopsis: Indy Savage, cop’s daughter, rock chick and used bookstore owner, has been in love with Lee Nightingale, once bad boy, now the man behind Nightingale Investigations, since she was five years old. No matter what ingenious schemes Indy used to capture his attention, Lee never showed an interest and Indy finally gave up. Now Indy’s employee, Rosie, has lost a bag of diamonds and bad guys are shooting at him. When Indy gets involved, Lee is forced to help. Complicating matters, Lee has decided he’s interested, Indy’s decided she’s not. But she can’t seem to keep Lee out of her life when she’s repeatedly stun gunned, kidnapped and there are car bombs exploding (not to mention she’s finding dead bodies).

Indy’s best bet is to solve the mystery of the diamonds before Lee. Lee’s challenge is to keep Indy alive and, at the same time, win back her heart.

Review: You’ll laugh, but when I saw the whole series on the blog of a friend, I understood that it was an erotica novel, so I never tried to learn more about it. But for Christmas, my wonderful friend Gilwen wanted me to discover the novel and I admit that it intrigued me. In addition, I saw two beautiful reviews meantime that led me to get into it. And so here I am! And no it is not an erotica book but rather an investigation novel, full of humor, a bit like Stephanie Plum. So you can imagine that I loved that!

Indy loves Lee since she was five and did everything to try to build something with him since that time. Problem? Lee was never interested and only rebuffed her all these years. Here, for 10 years she tried to forget the feelings she had to move on. Yet it is something quite difficult for her because her best friend is none other than his sister, and the woman who raised her after the death of her mother is his own mother. So yes, Indy is tired of trying to forge something impossible and remains determined to stay away from him as possible. Her wish, however, will be put at stake when after defending her employee Rosie, she attracts the attention of thugs who are far from friendly. We will then be thrown in an explosive story where all the problems seem to converge towards our young heroine. But when they seem to accumulate, Indy will also have to face Lee who will have to help her find out where Rosie is and to find the diamonds that everyone research. For this, he will make an offer to Indy, he will help her if she starts a relationship with him. That the young woman is surprised is an understatement, especially after he refused her so many times and despite her attraction, she does not agree and decides to stay away from this mysterious man. And the only way to do this is to find Rosie and diamonds by herself.

I loved the novel, I did not expect that at all but I took a great pleasure in reading the whole story. Indy is a heroine that we can only adore! She is not very talented but she has an undeniable knack for getting into completely catastrophic situations. And yet sometimes she knows that she is not going to end that well. She is desperate to protect and help those she loves, whatever happens. And when in addition to deal with her life, she must also think about what she wants to do with Lee, the man who seems determined to be with her at any cost, everything is complicated. Ah what about Lee? I quickly fell under her spell! He has all to be a mysterious bad boy. Yes, because we do not know very well what he does for a living, he is dark, full of secrets but so sexy! Yes totally! But I also fully understood why Indy does not want to come running at him when Lee finally decides that a relationship is possible between them. Yet in the novel, she will fall gradually into his trap and I loved seeing them together, because one thing is for sure, she will completely upset him! His tendency to give orders? Well … Indy has a lot of difficulties to obey, it is a real thing! But of course, there are many other colorful characters and it is with great pleasure that we discover them! I loved them all, even the bad guys! Oh yes, especially the bad guys elsewhere. Between an old mafia man who has a great passion for Indy, a crazy best friend, a former Vietnam veteran who walks with grenades, a rather special worshiper of plants, we have a lot to do. Do not expect to keep a secret between all these characters, as rumors spread faster than anything, interesting everyone else.

Finally you will understand, we follow the mad rush of Indy, desperate to uncover the truth behind this story. Characters that we love and a story with an explosive pace! I loved it from beginning to end and I’m a little sad to leave her now and go to another couple for the sequel and at the same time, Eddie has intrigued me and I am very curious to learn more about him.

Kristen Ashley is my guilty pleasure. I hate that I can’t resist her books. They’re terribly written! And the men. Oh my God. I want to shoot them all…or rip their clothes off. Whichever comes first.
