Celine’s adventures: Pure by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Celine is a French blogger who writes some fictional reviews about the books she loves the most and they always make me laugh. I hope the humor even if translated is kept. Thanks for her reviews.

—————
Covenant, Book 2

Synopsis: There is need. And then there is Fate. Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn’t exactly awesome–especially when Alexandria’s other half is everywhere she goes. Seth’s in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom–so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do–and sacrifice–for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies–lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon–and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn’t blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude–or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

List of what one should do before launching an assault on the banned-books Donjon

Sitting cross-legged on the thick carpet of my room, I tap my pen against my lips. Where to start?

-Finding a strategy
It is evident, a strategy is the backbone of any action. A strategy is essential. We’re not going anywhere without strategy. We must anticipate and not be carried away by our emotions. Well, it depends, because Alex finally succeeds to that … Well, okay, not always.
I rise up slightly and focus to channel my brain that has a tendency to vagrancy now. I even forgot my laptop on the roof of my car and went through the whole city with it taking the air like a dog at a window, except that, it was walking on the roof. I frowned. Concentrated girl, concentrated.
Armed with my pen, the end proudly displays a pink feather squirmed according to my movements, I drag the tip on the paper in a slight squeal:

– Having a prophecy
A prophecy, it always gives clues, if we know how to interpret it correctly. What Alex does not rightly. This is in fact the problem. We do not listen to the wise, we only do what we want to and boom …
One problem is looming despite everything: where can we find a prophecy? Not at the supermarket, for sure … Let’s think about that. Saying “prophecy” says “oracle”. One does not go without the other. I repeatedly underline the word “Oracle”.
The nib of my pen shakes in all directions. We will write history, girls, I’m sure they’ll be talking about us up there. We have gods-of-all-the-stuff-of-the-sea-and-the-earth, an evil Santa Claus who works for the extermination of our darlings books… Then we certainly have a prophecy about us somewhere. There is more to be found. My gaze wanders on the Scottish plaid patchwork covering my bed, you never know, it might be hiding in the uneven seams. Nothing, nothing. Well, we have to dig this track. Girls: Melliane, le Chat du Cheshire, Johanne, Roanne, Miss Pendergarst and all those who will join our fight, any ideas? I close my eyes tight and focus. Telepathy. I open them again, fast. No, bad idea, bad idea, I already had the wrong channel … (I whisper: girls)

-Having Super powers.
It would still be nice to have super powers. We could blend into the landscape, teleport to the dungeon or spouting fireballs from our palm to defeat bull or reindeer. My butt would appreciate that. Yes, it would be really good. Alex Puro has some. Almost. They will soon wake up. And it’ll be awesome. Unless of course we remember that it is intended to multiply the Seth’s strength, and that she will perhaps disappear. Not so great to finally have super powers.

-Developping Breath and endurance.
Melliane struggled with her new boots when the ostrich has pursued us all spout out in the zoo. And I, uh … joker … But Alex, it seems that she could run for hours. This is what she does, there is plenty of action in this volume! No respite! Yes, a good physical condition is essential. It’s decided, I stop Nutella.

-Developping Fighting techniques.
I would have to ask Le Chat if she has any ideas. Maybe we should hire Aiden to lead us? Oh yes, it would be a great idea. I’m sure the girls would love that. A sexy coach, some phenomenal reflexes, and kindness equaled to his sex appeal (which is huge !! Uh, sex appeal girls, we do not wrap!) The only problem is that he is devoted body and soul to Alex (Long sigh …).

-Having An army.

No, because if the gods-of-all-the-stuff-of-the-land-and-sea are similar to the Daemons army of this Volume 2, we’re bad, very bad. Nini is fast, Sumi unstoppable, but hey, not enough. And tiger’s zoo … Bad …

-Creating special glasses to spot the bad guys.
If I’ve learned one thing in the recent times is that the clothes do not make the man. Santa? On the balance of the Gods. The bull of the scope of my neighbor? A spy. The ostrich? A bitch. Oupsss, sorry for that ugly word. Certainly, she has spared my butt seriously manhandled by our adventures, but fortunately I’m going to the hairdresser on Thursday: she ripped some entire hair strands. This volume 2 confirms that we should always be wary of appearances. There are characters who play a double game, I am sure of it, even if they have an angelic face …

-Locating The Dungeon.
Ah yes, another useful item … But it is like the prophecy, it does not grow in the seams of an old plaid. We’ll have to be clever, to play with the Cerberus for information. Or to hire a spy. But a good looking one … One like Aiden. Well, I’ll talk to the girls, they have contacts, I am sure of it. And what if we do an advert?

I hold out my arms to contemplate with hindsight this formidable list I’m just developing. The draft plan, the beginnings of an organization. The foundations of our rebellion.

Girls, are you ready? It’s going to start!

  1. I like the pink feather – I think any good plan should start with a strategy put on paper by a pink-feathered pen. But please don’t give Nutella up! Think about it: what if life without Nutella? I’m afraid to even imagine it!

Awesome post, Melliane 😀 My regards to the girls <3
