A Ghostly Murder by Tonya Kappes

Ghostly Southern Mysteries, Book 4

Synopsis: Emma Lee Raines knows there’s only one cure for a bad case of murder!

I told you I was sick, reads the heastone abouve Mamie Sue Preston’s grave. She was the richest woman in Sleepy Hollow, Kentucky, and also the biggest hypochondriac. Ironic, considering someone killed her-proprietor of the Eternal Slumber Funeral HOme, know all this? Because Mamie Sue’s ghost told her, that’s how! And she’s offering big bucks to find the perp.

The catch is, Mamie Sue was buried by the Raines family’s archrival, Burns Funeral Home. Would the Burneses stoop to framing Emma Lee’s granny? With an enterprising maid, a penny-pinching pastor, and a slimy Lexington lawyer all making a killing off Mamie Sue’s estate, Emma Lee needs a teammate-like her dreamboat boyfriend, Sheriff Jack Henry Ross. Because ith millions at stake, snooping around is definitely bad for Emma Lee’s health.

Review: I had a great time with the first three volumes of the series. Indeed, I must say that each novels is full of lightness, humor and of course a great mystery. It is with pleasure that we find again Emma Lee here for a new investigation.

As I said a new case was set in motion in this story and it is the turn to Sue and Junior to go to ask our heroine for help. Each is determined to push Emma Lee to understand what has happened to them. Are the murders connected? Is there a serial killer in town? I admit that I was very quickly swept away by this investigation and I was very curious to understand the purpose and the truth behind the murders. One thing is for sure, I did not expect at all such a revelation at the end of the novel. There are a lot of tracks that we follow with curiosity and even if we agree fast enough with Emma Lee, we doubt that everything will be much more complicated than that. I must say that Mamie Sue was a very special character and she is hiding many secrets. But being very rich, this investigation will attract many dangers, much more than expected.

But even if there were only that but our heroine must also manage a large number of problems, including the fact that her sister Charlotte has decided to leave the family business or even to learn that Jack Henry has possibly found a job far from their city. It was touching to see the more sensitive side of our heroine, this is a touching side to observe as she does not necessarily reveals it often.

Something else ? It seems that someone is trying to plot against the Emma Lee’s grandmother, placing in her home some pretty different things stolen. But what may be the cause?

In all cases you understand that I had a good time with this story. It is as always a good read and it’s always interesting to see our heroine evolve with her gift and realize that she needs others though sometimes they are not always there for her. A new good novel.

  1. I am glad you found there light and fun, I always love humor in books like these. Honestly I didn’t know how to feel about this due to its covers, but now I will have to look the first book up.

  2. I think it’s kind of interesting how all of the covers to this series feature a grave stone. I don’t love them, but at least they’re instantly recognizable and I knew I have seen you review these books before and that you enjoy them! Glad you’re still having fun 🙂

  3. I remember other reviews you wrote about this series and it seems to be a good one for you to read. They do look like they are fun to read. I am glad you are still enjoying them!
