Review: Generation V is a series that I love and I was, as always, very impatient for this new volume. How not to fall under the spell of this anti-hero and Suze, this fun fox? They are both awesome and I had a great pleasure to follow them once again.

Fort has to manage the territory of his mother, especially since that the Chivalry’s wife is dead. But now a new story falls on him and not the least … In fact, the leader of a bear clan is found murdered and it is up to our young vampire and his acolyte Suze to find the person responsible. His sister Prudence would tell you that taking a random person and make an example would suffice but it is not how Fortitude works. Oh no, because he is determined to find the culprit whatever it might cost. However, this case is much more complicated than expected, evidences all revolve around a single person, but is it a trap? I admit that I was curious to see who the culprit of the story was, because, like our hero, it’s actually quite difficult for us to really know who the killer is. All names will pass through our head, changing and eventually I think that the author has perfectly managed to lead us by the nose. But I can tell you that in any case I really enjoyed this resolution and the reason behind this.

But it’s not just that because the decline of their mother is felt throughout the community and clans are all trying to organize themselves to see what would be most profitable for them thereafter. Surprisingly, a number of them are already turning to Fort, trying to feel the ground to see what can happen. But I confess that although I hope that Madeline will stay there much longer, I’m curious to see what will happen next as well. Even Chivalry is not really involved in the story, we also have the opportunity to see him several times, as well as Prudence elsewhere. After what had happened in the previous novel with his sister, I was eager to see how the two would behave and it is true that like Fort, I was surprised to see how the young woman cares for him. But it is true that Prudence is a very complex character, and it is very difficult to understand or predict how she will react to situations.

Anything else? Oh yes because Fort evolves much in this novel, especially since the beginning of his transformation. We see the changes here and it’s true that I was surprised to see what it would produce on his character. We feel bad with him, we feel guilty and we remain impressed by his new faculties. But in addition to this, we also have Suze. Ah I love this fox! She’s great and her actions and conversations are always humorous. Since the end of the previous book, I was curious to see how the “relationship” between the two would evolve and I must say that I was conquered by all!

So yes, I can tell you that once again I had a great time with this new story and I can only recommend you to try the series if you’re looking for an original and different vampires story. You will fall in love with Fort, Suze and his family and you will not want to let them go! I’m really excited to read more adventures with our heroes now (as always!).

Avis : Generation V est une série que j’affectionne particulièrement et j’étais comme pour chaque sortie de nouveau tome, impatiente de pouvoir découvrir cette histoire. Comment ne pas tomber sous le charme de cet anti-héros et de Suze, cette renarde si maligne ? Ils sont tous les deux géniaux et j’ai pris un grand plaisir à les suivre encore une fois.

Fort doit gérer le territoire de sa mère, surtout depuis que la femme de Chivalry est décédée. Mais voilà qu’une nouvelle histoire lui tombe dessus et pas des moindres… En effet, le leader d’un clan ours est retrouvé assassiné et c’est à notre jeune vampire et à son acolyte Suze, de trouver le responsable. Sa sœur Prudence vous dirait bien que prendre une personne au hasard et en faire un exemple suffirait mais ce n’est pas comme ça que Fortitude travaille. Oh non, car il est bien décidé à trouver le coupable coûte que coûte. Pourtant cette affaire est bien plus compliquée que prévu, les preuves tournent toutes vers une seule et même personne, mais est-ce un piège ? J’avoue que j’étais assez curieuse de voir qui était le coupable de l’histoire, car, tout comme nos héros, il nous est finalement assez difficile de vraiment savoir qui est le tueur. Tous les noms y passent, changent et finalement je trouve que l’auteure était parfaitement parvenue à nous mener par le bout du nez. Mais je peux vous dire en tout cas que j’ai beaucoup aimé cette résolution et la raison derrière tout cela.

Mais il n’y a pas que ça car le déclin de leur mère se fait ressentir dans toute la communauté et les clans essaient tous de s’organiser de façon à voir ce qui leur serait le plus profitable par la suite. Etonnamment, un certain nombre d’entre eux se tournent déjà vers Fort, essayant de tâter du terrain pour voir ce qu’il peut se passer. Mais j’avoue que même si j’espère que Madeline restera là encore longtemps, je suis curieuse de voir ce qu’il se passera aussi par la suite. Même si Chivalry n’est pas vraiment très impliqué dans l’histoire, nous avons aussi l’occasion de le voir plusieurs fois, tout comme Prudence d’ailleurs. Après ce qu’il s’était passé dans le tome précédent avec sa sœur, j’étais impatiente de voir comment les deux allaient se comporter et c’est vrai que comme Fort, j’ai été surprise de voir comment la jeune femme s’occupait de lui. Mais il est vrai que Prudence est un personnage très complexe, et il est très difficile de la comprendre ou de prévoir comment elle réagira face aux situations.

Autre chose ? Oh oui parce que Fort évolue beaucoup dans ce roman, notamment depuis l’amorce de sa transformation. On en voit les changements ici et c’est vrai que j’ai été surprise de voir ce que cela produisait sur son personnage. On se sent mal avec lui, on culpabilise et on reste admiratif quant aux facultés qu’il acquière. Mais en plus de cela, il y a aussi Suze. Ah j’adore cette renarde ! Elle est géniale et ses actions et conversations sont toujours pleines d’humour. Depuis la fin du tome précédent, j’étais curieuse de voir comment la « relation » entre les deux allait évoluer et je dois dire que j’ai été conquise par le tout !

Donc oui, je peux vous dire qu’une fois encore j’ai passé un excellent moment avec cette nouvelle histoire et je ne peux que vous recommander d’essayer la série si vous êtes en quête d’une série de vampires originale et différente. Vous allez tomber sous le charme de Fort, Suze et sa famille et vous ne voudrez plus les laisser partir ! Je suis vraiment impatiente de pouvoir lire la suite des aventures de nos héros à présent (et comme toujours !).

– Can you present youself and your family?

My mother is over six-hundred years old, and the most powerful vampire on the East Coast. She controls a good chunk of the Eastern seaboard in an iron fist, and she’s had a hand in every presidential election that this country has ever had. Before that she would meddle in town council meetings. She might look like a sweet little old woman, but she’s got fangs — literally, she’s got fangs. They look like she stole them from a tiger.

My sister Prudence dates back to the American Revolution, and her sociopathic tendencies work really well with her day job in the financial industry. She’s threatened to kill me before, and once tried to let someone else do the job, but lately she seems less homicidal and more curious, which is enough to terrify me.

My brother Chivalry is the one I’m closest to — he was born around the end of the Civil War, so he understands me a bit better, given that he’s the only other member of my family who doesn’t pre-date the cotton gin. I think of him as a very refined Bluebeard — he’s on wife #19.

And then there’s me — I’m 27, have a degree in film theory from Brown, and my latest field of employment is waiting tables. I happen to think there’s a moral issue with killing people — my family doesn’t really get it. They also don’t get why I’m a vegetarian.

– Is it difficult to come from a family like that?

Oh, absolutely. I’d seek therapy, but then my sister would probably kill my therapist.

– Is it really important for you to live away from them?

Even though it means living in a periodically-vermin-infested (the landlord just sprayed) apartment and depending on a revolving-door of horrendous roommates to make rent, yes. I would never want to live with my family again.

– If you could, would you prefer to be human?

Of course! I’m still transitioning (think of it as vampire puberty and you’re not far off), but how can I know that on the other side of it I’ll still be who I am, and feel the way I do now? How can I know that I’ll still have the same values and beliefs? My siblings couldn’t find empathy with a flashlight and a slide-ruler — I’m very afraid that I’ll lose that.

Review: I was really curious to find Fortitude again after a very good first volume. I must say that the series is really nice to read and we follow an anti-hero who always manages to be in catastrophic situations, all that is mixed with an exciting plot that always keeps us in suspense throughout the story.

Since the end of the first novel, Fort learned a little more about governing the territory of his mother with his brother and soon realizes that he really knows nothing. But besides that, he tries to learn how to fight to avoid feeling helpless. But even with a different life like that, he has decided to stay away from his family and to live quietly on his side as he has always done, while working for people who hate him. But an event will turn everything upside down when one night he discovers the mutilated body of his roommate in his flat. Ofcourse, he is convinced that this is not a coincidence, even if his family isn’t particularly interested in it. Determined to discover the truth, and helped by Suze, Fort will investigate this murder. However, he certainly didn’t expect to be embedded in a story mixing shepeshifters and elves. And while he gradually discovers a new world he did not know about, he could alienate more people than he previously thought. Moreover, to complicate matters, Matt decides to interfere in his story to discover the truth about Fort and his family. Something that will be very difficult indeed.

I enjoyed reading the ideas of M.L. Brennan in this novel. Fort has evolved considerably since the first novel, but he keeps his hero soul although he does have little skills for that. He always tries to protect those he loves whatever may be the consequences. I was also surprised to see his brother and sister act for his best here. We will see them a little more in the novel, understanding how they ended up like that and I admit that I took a great pleasure in seeing a little more Prudence. This is such a complex character that it is difficult to decide about her and at the same time I’m sure she loves her little brother in her own way. But it is sure that when there is need for action, her presence is enough to upset everyone. Of course, Suze is also there, and it’s true that this is one of my favorite characters in the series. She has quickly befriended Fort and I always love to see her teasing him in all circumstances. I must say she is very good at it and she constantly uses it. Moreover, we feel that something is appearing between them without being able to define it and it’s true that I’m curious to read more to see how everything will evolve. We also learn a little more about her and her family, and I am eager to know all the details of her life.

In terms of the story, I must say that I was completely swept away. I was very curious to know the identity of the culprit and the reasons behind the killings. The author had some pretty ideas this time too. We can not doubt for one second at the beginning of the novel about what is really happening, and with a series of discoveries and investigations we discover the truth little by little. Moreover, we meet like that some new characters that I hope we’ll see again later.

It was a very good novel, Fort accepts increasingly the role he must play while understanding his importance. Of course, his life is just beginning but I’m sure we will discover more soon. If you do not know the series, I can only recommend you to read it. This is a beautiful discovery, a little different from what we can usually read all that with a clumsy hero who has a sense of duty and justice as anyone else. A new great surprise and I’ll eagerly wait for the third volume.

American Vampire, Tome 2

Diplômé en théorie du cinéma et vampire, Fortitude Scott est peut-être serveur dans un restaurant prétentieux tenu par un chef tyrannique qui le hait, mais les autres parties de sa vie semblent enfin se stabiliser. Il apprend comment gouverner le territoire de la famille Scott, passe du temps avec son amie change-forme Suzume Hollis, et a effectivement trouvé un colocataire décent pour une fois.

Jusqu’à ce qu’il trouve le cadavre de son colocataire.

La famille Scott met la machine en œuvre pour couvrir toute l’histoire, mais Fort est la seule personne à essayer de comprendre qui (ou quoi) a réellement tué son ami. Sa recherche du meurtrier le conduit à une créature qui fait même peur à sa famille de sociopathes, et les met tous en danger de mort.

Garder des secrets, tuer des monstres, et arriver quand même à aller travailler à l’heure ? Parfois, être un vampire est vraiment fatigant.

Avis : J’étais vraiment curieuse de retrouver Fortitude après un premier très bon tome. Il faut dire que la série est vraiment agréable à lire avec un anti-héros qui arrive toujours à se mettre dans des situations catastrophiques et une intrigue passionnante qui nous garde toujours en haleine tout au long de l’histoire.

Depuis la fin du premier roman, Fort apprend un peu plus à gouverner le territoire de sa mère à l’aide de son frère et réalise très vite qu’il ne connait vraiment rien. Mais en plus de cela, il essaie d’apprendre à se battre pour éviter de se sentir démuni. Mais bien que cela change sa vie, il décide de rester loin de sa famille et de vivre tranquillement de son côté comme il l’a toujours fait, tout en travaillant pour des gens qui le détestent. Mais un événement va tout chambouler, quand une nuit il découvre le cadavre mutilé de son colocataire. Et alors qu’il est persuadé que ce n’est pas une coïncidence, sa famille ne s’y intéresse pas particulièrement. Bien décidé à découvrir la vérité, et avec l’aide de Suze, Fort va mener l’enquête. Cependant, il ne s’attendait surement pas à être embarqué dans une histoire mêlant change-formes et elfes. Et alors qu’il découvre petit à petit ce nouveau monde qu’il ne connaissait pas, il pourrait bien se mettre à dos plus de monde qu’il ne le pensait. D’ailleurs, pour compliquer le tout, voilà que Matt décide de s’en mêler lui aussi pour découvrir la vérité au sujet de Fort et sa famille. Chose qui sera d’ailleurs très délicate.

J’ai beaucoup apprécié de lire les idées de M.L. Brennan dans ce roman. Fort a beaucoup évolué depuis le premier roman mais il garde son âme de héros bien qu’il n’en ait que peu les compétences. Il essaie toujours de protéger ceux qu’il aime quoi que puissent être les conséquences. J’ai été surprise de voir son frère et sa sœur agir autant pour lui. On les côtoiera un peu plus tous les deux dans le roman comprenant comment ils en sont arrivés là et j’avoue que j’ai pris grand  plaisir à voir un peu plus Prudence. C’est un personnage si conflictuel qu’il est difficile de statuer à son sujet et en même temps je suis sûre qu’elle aime beaucoup son petit frère à sa façon. Mais c’est sûr que quand il y a besoin d’action, sa présence suffit pour perturber tout le monde. Bien sûr, Suze est aussi là, et c’est vrai que c’est un des personnages que je préfère dans la série. Elle s’est très vite liée d’amitié avec Fort et j’aime toujours beaucoup la voir le taquiner en toutes circonstances. Il faut dire qu’elle est très douée pour ça et en use constamment. On sent d’ailleurs que quelque chose se crée entre eux sans pouvoir bien le définir mais c’est vrai que je suis curieuse de lire plus pour voir ce que tout cela donnera. On en apprend aussi un peu plus sur elle et sa famille, et je suis impatiente de connaître tous les détails de sa vie.

Pour ce qui est de l’histoire, je dois dire que j’ai été complètement emportée. J’étais très curieuse de connaître l’identité du coupable et les raisons derrière les meurtres perpétrés. L’auteure a eu de jolies idées cette fois aussi. On ne peut se douter une seule seconde au début du roman de ce qu’il se passe réellement, et par une suite de découvertes et d’enquêtes on le découvre petit à petit. On rencontre d’ailleurs par ce biais de nouveaux personnages que j’espère nous reverrons par la suite.

C’était un très bon roman, Fort accepte de plus en plus le rôle qu’il doit jouer tout en comprenant son importance. Bien sûr, sa vie ne fait que commencer mais je suis sûre que nous en découvrirons plus très bientôt. Si vous ne connaissez pas la série, je ne peux que vous la conseiller. C’est une très belle découverte qui change de ce qu’on peut lire habituellement présentant un héros maladroit mais qui a un sens du devoir et de la justice comme personne d’autre. Une nouvelle très bonne surprise et j’attends avec grande impatience le troisième tome.

Synopsis: Reality Bites

Fortitude Scott’s life is a mess. A degree in film theory has left him with zero marketable skills, his job revolves around pouring coffee, his roommate hasn’t paid rent in four months, and he’s also a vampire. Well, sort of. He’s still mostly human.

But when a new vampire comes into his family’s territory and young girls start going missing, Fort can’t ignore his heritage anymore. His mother and his older, stronger siblings think he’s crazy for wanting to get involved. So it’s up to Fort to take action, with the assistance of Suzume Hollis, a dangerous and sexy shape-shifter. Fort is determined to find a way to outsmart the deadly vamp, even if he isn’t quite sure how.

But without having matured into full vampirehood and with Suzume ready to split if things get too risky, Fort’s rescue mission might just kill him.…

Review: After seeing some great reviews by many bloggers, I knew I had to read this book and I did not wait long before buying it after its release. It is true, I admit, that it took a little longer for me to read it, but I do not really regret it, it’s a really great book.

Fort is a young man who dreams of having a normal life like any self-respecting human. But even if he tries to ignore them, he comes from a family of vampires and whatever he thinks, he can’t change that. This also applies for his transition state as a vampire. But when a vampire goes on their territory and starts killing girls, Fortitude can not leave things like that as his mother does nothing. And despite the lack of power he holds, he is determined to prevent this vampire to kill again. He will not be, however, alone in this adventure and will be accompanied by a nice shifter, Suzume, which will be indispensable to him in this quest.

I loved all the characters, en if they are more or less bad. Fort is a fairly commonplace boy, who doesn’t have any special skills when you do not really know him yet but he has also many strings to his bow. I was fascinated by his determination when he didn’t have to do anything. He will change a lot in this novel from the young submissive man, with no real character to someone further stated who knows what he wants. I loved seeing him change like that as the character we discover broke our heart enough by the abuse he suffered. His whole family is really original and I admit that I would miss something by not meeting them all and I was very intrigued by their way of life and nature. All are different but they have something unique that attracts us. We also discover Suzume, this shifter so unusual. It is very interesting to have a character like her, so frank, who does not care what others think about her and who acts only as she wants. I loved to see her with Fort and see what she could do. Engaging characters, and I look forward to discover more.

M.L. Brennan brings new ideas about vampires in this novel and it was very interesting to understand exactly what was going on. She created a vampire myth, a little different from what can be expected and I’m curious to see what it will happen. Of course I still have many questions, probably the same as Fort, and I hope to have my answers soon! This is a series to discover and I recommend it. A very good story that begins many things for the following novels.

La vie de Fortitude Scott est un gâchis. Un diplôme en théorie du cinéma l’a laissé sans aucune compétence monnayable, son travail s’articule autour du café, son colocataire n’a pas payé son loyer depuis quatre mois, et il est aussi un vampire. Eh bien, en quelque sorte. Il est encore essentiellement humain.

Mais quand un nouveau vampire arrive sur le territoire de sa famille et que des jeunes filles commencent à disparaître, Fort ne peut ignorer son héritage plus longtemps. Sa mère, son frère et sa sœur plus âgés, plus forts, pensent qu’il est fou de vouloir s’impliquer. Donc, c’est à Fort de prendre des mesures, avec l’aide de Suzume Hollis, une métamorphe dangereuse et sexy. Fort est déterminé à trouver un moyen de déjouer le vamp mortel, même s’il n’est pas tout à fait sûr de savoir comment.

Mais sans avoir atteint son état de vampire et avec Suzume prête à s’échapper si les choses deviennent trop risquées, le sauvetage de Fort pourrait le tuer ….

Avis : Après avoir vu de magnifiques avis de bloggeuses que je suis sur ce livre, je n’ai pas attendu longtemps avant de l’acheter dès sa sortie. Il est vrai je l’avoue, j’ai mis un peu plus longtemps à le sortir de ma PAL pour le lire, mais je ne le regrette vraiment pas.

Fort est un jeune homme qui ne rêve que d’avoir une vie ordinaire comme tout humain qui se respecte. Mais même s’il essaie d’en faire abstraction, il provient d’une famille de vampires et quoi qu’il fasse rien ne pourra changer ça. Il en va ainsi aussi pour son état de transition en tant que vampire. Mais quand un vampire se rend sur leur territoire et commence à tuer des jeunes filles, Fortitude ne peut laisser les choses ainsi alors que sa mère ne fait rien. Et malgré le peu de pouvoir qu’il détient, il est bien décidé à empêcher ce vampire de nuire. Il ne sera cependant pas seul dans cette aventure et il sera accompagné d’une jolie métamorphe renarde, Suzume, qui lui sera indispensable dans cette quête.

J’ai beaucoup aimé tous les personnages, qu’ils soient plus ou moins méchants. Fort est un garçon assez banal, qui n’a rien d’exceptionnel quand on ne le connait pas vraiment et pourtant il a plusieurs cordes à son arc. J’ai été fascinée par sa détermination alors que rien ne l’obligeait à aller dans ce sens. Il va beaucoup évoluer dans ce roman, passant de ce jeune homme effacé, soumis et sans réel caractère à quelqu’un de plus affirmé qui sait ce qu’il veut. J’ai beaucoup aimé le voir changer ainsi car le personnage qu’on découvre nous rend assez triste de par les maltraitances qu’il subit. Toute sa famille est vraiment originale et j’avoue qu’on raterait quelque chose à ne pas les rencontrer et j’ai été très intriguée par leur mode de vie et leur nature. Tous sont différents mais ils ont quelque chose d’unique qui nous attire. On découvre aussi Suzume, cette métamorphe renarde si atypique. C’est très intéressant d’avoir un personnage tel que le sien, si franc, qui ne fait pas attention à ce que les autres pensent et qui n’agit que comme elle veut. J’ai adoré la voir se comporter ainsi avec Fort, et voir ce qu’elle était capable de faire. Des personnages attachants, tous les uns que les autres et qu’on a hâte de découvrir plus.

M.L. Brennan apporte de nouvelles idées sur les vampires dans ce roman et c’était très intéressant de comprendre exactement de quoi il en retournait. Elle a créé un mythe vampirique, un peu différent de celui auquel on peut s’attendre et je suis curieuse de voir ce que cela adviendra. Bien sûr j’ai encore de nombreuses questions, surement les mêmes que Fort, et j’espère avoir les réponses très bientôt ! C’est une série à découvrir et que je recommande. Une très bonne histoire qui amorce plein de choses pour la suite des romans.
