Capture by Rachel Van Dyken

Seaside Pictures, Book 1

Synopsis: Losing your ability to speak at the age of seventeen; it’s not normal or fair.
But trauma, has a way of throwing normality out the window.

Dani lives anything but a normal life.
Her sister is married to one of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Her best friends are rockstar duo AD2.
And she has more love around her than most people experience in a lifetime.
But that doesn’t change the fact their parents are dead.
Or that it’s her fault.

It seems her new normal is being a mute, living on the inside, unable to actually communicate on the outside.
That is until Hollywood’s newest heartthrob Lincoln Greene hires her as his assistant for the summer.
He’s gorgeous, completely unavailable, and unobtainable.
But that doesn’t stop her from wondering…if things were different…would he want her?
If she was whole, would he be the other half?

Review: I usually have a good time with Rachel Van Dyken’s novels and I was curious to discover another of her series.

We discover Dani, a 17 year old girl who after the death of her parents in a car accident that she feels responsible of isn’t able to talk anymore. It’s not that she does not want to talk, she would like to, but she can not do it anymore. So to make her finally move from the hole where she shut herself up, her sister decides to find her a job as an assistant to the charismatic 22 years old actor, Lincoln. This partnership will change everything in the lives of our two heroes, and may even allow them to evolve together.

It was a very touching story and I really liked following Dani. It is clear that she is well surrounded by her friends and I enjoyed seeing the family she created outside of her sister. Lincoln is sometimes very clumsy with her, but their exchanges were often very funny. I was curious to see what was going to happen. However, I was a little annoyed, as was Dani, when everyone around her considered her a child because she was 17 years old. I understand her frustration, especially shortly before she turns 18. But it seems like an impassable barrier.

In any case, I had a great time with this story and I am really curious to discover the story of Zane that we have discovered here and which is equally intriguing.

Lincoln de Rachel Van Dyken

Famous Love, Tome 1

Dirty Exes by Rachel Van Dyken

Liars, Inc., Book 1

Synopsis: Blaire has never quite gotten over Jessie Beckett, the ex–NFL star whose kisses were hot enough to ignite the entire Eastern Seaboard. When he chose work over her, Blaire was left brokenhearted. Why else would she have married a skeezy two-timer, just to divorce him less than a year later?

Now Blaire is getting even by becoming one half of Dirty Exes, a PI firm fully committed to humiliating cheating jerks. If only the new jerk she’s been hired to uncover wasn’t Jessie Beckett himself.

Exposing Jessie isn’t going to be easy, especially when she still daydreams about his sexy smile. Further complicating matters is Colin, Jessie’s best friend. He’s gorgeous, a little bit cunning, and willing to help Blaire get the inside scoop on Jessie—for a price.

Now caught between two men—one totally right and the other totally wrong—Blaire will need to decide just how much she’s willing to risk…and whom she’s willing to risk it for.

Review: When I heard about this new novel by Rachel Van Dyken, I was curious to find out what the author was going to propose to us. I liked the novels I read by her, so how to resist Dirty Exes?

Isla and Blaire both suffered atrociously when they were deceived by their half, so they had an idea: to create a private detective company solely dedicated to revealing cheating. But their new case will change the game. While Blaire is struggling to put aside her childhood love, the one who broke her heart, she faces him again when he becomes her new victim. The feelings come back and he seems very happy to have found her as well. Things get more complicated when the best friend of the latter, a notorious playboy, is determined to make her succumb as well. The advantage? He is not married!

I had a good time with this novel. We understand very quickly that the story of Jessie’s marriage is complicated, that it is not only what we see from outside, and we will discover the story gradually through the chapters. And Colin? Ah what about Colin? I admit that it was difficult for me to decide on him at first. As I said: notorious playboy and it’s quite difficult for Blaire who is not that kind of girl and yet he is intrigued, he wants to know what it could be, even if he knows full well that she has always feelings for his best friend. Besides, if he can trick her while helping her in her investigation, it’s perfect!

It was a nice read, we understand Blaire and her worries. She wants to hang on to a past, to a story that never really ended and yet she realizes that it’s not that simple. She will succeed here to understand what she really wants and to see if the past is still relevant or not.

Dirty Exes de Rachel Van Dyken (VO)

Liars, Inc., Tome 1

The Wager by Rachel Van Dyken

The Bet, Book 2

Synopsis: Lose a bet, lose your heart…

What is it about a junior-high crush that can send an otherwise intelligent woman into a tailspin? TV reporter Char Lynn wishes she knew. Jake Titus is too rich, too handsome, too arrogant: a trifecta that once lured Char into the best night-and worst morning-after-of her life. Now they’ve been thrown together in a wedding party. It’s awkward, but survivable . . . until Jake stops acting like a jerk, and starts acting like the man she’d always hoped he could be.

If watching your brother marry your best friend is weird, being attracted to your best friend’s other best friend is downright bizarre. Unfortunately for Jake, Char hasn’t forgotten how he once tossed her aside. Worse still, Jake’s already-nutty grandma is even crazier about Char. Cue meet-cute shenanigans and all manner of meddling, and somehow, Jake’s falling. For Char. Now all he has to do is make her believe it . . .

Review: After finishing the first volume I was eager to get into this sequel. It must be said that after all that had happened, I was curious to see how it would be for Jake in this story.

We follow the adventures of Jake and Charlotte, Kacey’s best friend. Like for Kacey, Jake has behaved very badly with Charlotte and the wedding is gathering them together now, especially since they are both best man and bridesmaid. However, their reunion is far from simple and it is even more funny to attend all this. Besides Nadine, the grandmother will turn them crazy, and that’s saying little!

I had another great time with this story. Jake and Charlotte are a real pleasure to follow. They are going to have to do a lot of things for the wedding, many of which are orchestrated by Nadine. The two characters will have to tame each other and it’s not easy at first, since Charlotte hates him after all he has done and we understand it perfectly! Yet little by little, they will evolve and change in contact with the other for our greatest pleasure. Grandma is even more present than in the first volume and I loved to see her so much here! This is a really great granny and her ideas are sometimes completely crazy (but that’s also why we love her, right?). Besides, I was also delighted to see Kacey and Travis and some chapters are even from their point of view, so what more can we ask for?

It was a very good read once again and I must admit that I can not wait to read the third volume on Beth and Jace now!

Le Désir de Rachel Van Dyken

Games of Love, Tome 2

The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken

The Bet, Book 1

Synopsis: “I have a proposition for you.” Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus’s mouth. It’s been years since Kacey’s seen her childhood friend Jake, but the minute Jake mentions his ill grandmother, Kacey is ready to do anything for the sweet old woman. And if that means pretending they’re engaged for her sake-so be it.

But Kacey wasn’t counting on Jake’s older brother Travis still being there. She calls him “Satan” for a reason: she’s never forgotten the way he teased and taunted her. Yet when they meet again, Travis’s gorgeous smile is a direct hit to her heart . . . and Kacey’s more confused than ever. As the days pass, only one thing starts to become alarmingly clear-she never should have accepted Jake’s deal . . .

Review: I heard about Rachel Van Dyken many times but this is the first novel that I discover of her and I must say that I am conquered! I did not really know this series but the synopsis seemed to offer a very good reading!

We discover Kacey, a young woman who is struggling to rebuild her life. When her ex and former best friend comes to her to make a proposal, she has a hard time saying no and yet she knows that it can only end badly. His grandmother is sick and she would like to see her again, that’s why he thinks it would be perfect for her to come pretending to be his fiancé. Despite her reticence, Kacey accepts for Nadine that she loves more than anything. It will not be an easy game to do especially when she has to resist Jake. But on top of that, Jake’s brother, Travis, is there, that boy who always tormented her when she was younger and she hates him since. But Travis has become a very handsome man and he himself does not seem insensitive to the charms of the young woman.

I really had a great time with this novel and I was really curious to see how the story was going to end. The situation is really not easy and I sometimes really wanted to slap Jake regarding his behavior. However, I connected easily to Kacey, we understand her doubts and insecurities. Her exchanges with Travis are often very funny to see and I enjoyed seeing them evolve together. Did I tell you about Nadine? This grandmother is great and very funny. She brings a big touch of freshness to the story with her eccentricities and I can not wait to see her again in the sequel!

You’ll understand, it’s a very good first volume and I’m curious to read more!
