Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?
I don’t think so or for now it’s not the case. Sometimes I’m sure I’ll like the book because I really enjoy the synopsis and the cover but it’s not about the bad review. It’s true there is a book I was curious to read because everyone doesn’t like it, but at the end I didn’t try it, because I have a lot of great books to read before. Maybe one day.

I definitely understand about having too many great books to read first before snagging a book that others thought was terrible! I tend to buy the books with bad reviews when I’m getting burned out on books in my queue and need something “different”.
Thanks for stopping by! I’m an old follower on GFC and Twitter, but I did follow you on NB 🙂

I agree with your answers too! Sometimes pretty cover and intriguing summary will make me buy a book even though the reviews on the book are not always positive. Thanks for stopping by my FF!
That’s so true! Buying a book just BECAUSE people didn’t like it isn’t such a great idea.
Stop by my Follow Friday post!
Hi there 🙂 just hopping through. I try to form my own opinion on books, but if it’s a terrible review with valid points then I might read more reviews to see if it truly is bad.
Here is my choice…
Feature & Follow
Yeah, I check out Goodreads a lot before buying anything- but sometimes that doesn’t work at all. Like a lot of people on GR hated Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, but I totally adored it. Guess we need to read the book to form our opinions.

Oh I haven’t seen any bad review about this one yet. I agree with you.
Me either. I like to read reviews on books I am leary about! ANd if there are too many negative reviews I won’t buy it. That being said, there might even be positive reviews I’ve read regarding books and I come to the conclusion it’s not for me!
Here’s my Friday Hops
Have a GREAT weekend!

Reviews can be so varied, it depends on the book and the review! Thanks for stopping by my blog! Old follower.
I agree but it’s just I won’t buy a book only for a bad review. I need other things for that.
Great answer! I’m a new follower 🙂
I wish I could challenge you to read it. 😉 You never know, it might be the best book you’ve ever read!
But at the same time those TBR stacks/lists are sometimes crazy so I understand.
lol I could read a book that has a lot of bad reviews, but I don’t read a book because it has a bad review. lol you understand what I mean?
I can’t imagine buying a book because of a bad review. I might check one out in spite of a bad review, but I wouldn’t go so far as to actually buy one! 🙂

New follower hopping through! Great post! I followed you through Linky Tools – you can return the favour over at http://www.bethebooks.blogspot.com 🙂 Happy Friday!
If it’s a bad review from a friend, then I wouldn’t buy the book. If it’s a bad review from a random person, or if it’s filled with personal attacks, then I still want to read the book.
Thanks for stopping by! Old follower!

Oooh, french reviews! I planned to learn French.. I think I should follow you and hope to understand three of threehundred words. XD XD XD I’m so bad with languages, even my own native language (German) seems incredibly hard sometimes LOL
I think.. Hmm.. I read books because of negative reviews. Either because I wantto know what the fuss is all about or because the negative reviews are really good and state why the reviewer didn#t enjoy the novel, which might be stuff that I generally enjoy (dark settings etc.) :3
Patricia // My FF
lol I write in both languages hopefully. German is a little too difficult for me, I think I’ll stay with french and English (even if my English isn’t perfect lol).
EXACTLY! Sometimes I read a book in spite of a bad review, but never because of one — although I have to admit that I’ve avoided a ton of books because of bad reviews x) But negativity is never the best selling point LOL! Still, if there are a bunch of bad reviews for a book and one really, really good one, I might want to read that book just to see what it’s about, like you! 🙂
That’s the perfect answer for this question, I think! I hope you have an amazing weekend, Mel! 🙂 <3
Ah mimi you’re like me!!! lol thank you so much, have a wonderful weekend as well.
New follower from Feature & Follow, pleased to meet you! It’s my first week signed up, I’d love it if you came by to visit 🙂 Link to my FF post.
PS I love your header – where is that amazing building??
hmm Japan maybe? I don’t really know… graphic artist create the header for us.
I’m so late responding to this – sorry, crazy week!
What you said is spot on. I get the book because the cover and synopsis draw me in, not because I want to see whether it merited that particular bad review.
