Burning Down the Spouse by Dakota Cassidy

Ex Trophy Wives, Book 2

Synopsis: If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen…the latest from national bestselling author Dakota Cassidy!

After discovering that her famous chef husband was cheating, Frankie Bennett lost her mind-on live TV. Now Frankie is broke, unemployed, and hiding out in her aunt’s retirement village. That is, until Maxine Henderson-Barker-reformed trophy wife and owner of Trophy Jobs Inc. employment agency-arrives to give Frankie a much needed kick in the pants.

Soon, Frankie lands a job as a prep chef at a Greek diner in New Jersey, home to the world’s best meatloaf and an owner who resembles an exquisitely chiseled Greek statue. Falling into bed with Nikos isn’t the best idea, but after years of living in a man’s shadow, this ex- trophy wife is ready to get busy cooking…

Review: I was curious about this second volume as the first one was a nice surprise. The two books are lively and fun to read, all that with a wonderful humor.

Frankie is a young woman with a fiery temperament, so when she learns that her husband, master chef, cheats on her, she causes a scandal on live TV by threatening him. But she did not expect it to have a heavy public impact with this event. Indeed, now everyone knows who she is as soon as she appears somewhere. But with her aunt Gail, Mona’s friend, Maxine comes into play to help our young heroine. I was really happy to see how Maxine was established as a fulfilled woman and is now helping all women who had gone through the same obstacles. But she still knows where she comes from and do everything possible to help these ex-wives to recover her lives. And despite a difficult start, Frankie is now working in a restaurant, thanks to Maxine, under the orders of the beautiful and charming Nikos. This man has everything, and we can only understand the attraction of our heroine. Yes, because I also completely fell under his spell too. But jealousy is also his weak point and he will have to overcome that to continue his life. But everything would have been fine, if Mitch, the ex-husband, had not realized that without his wife, his show would go down the drain…

I loved this story and I was quite curious to see what would happen. I must say that Frankie is a stubborn woman but she is also afraid of being hurt again, especially since everyone constantly reminds her of her husband’s adultery. Also it is very difficult for her to turn the corner, but with the help of Nikos, Maxine and her friend Jasmine, everything is possible. I was also surprised to also follow in this novel the story of Jasmine, a woman who has also been left by her husband and despite her independent air and her strength, she is more sensitive than anyone would have believed. Simon and Nikos are two extraordinary men, although they also make many mistakes while trying not to hurt the person they love. Because, yes, hiding the truth is never the best thing to do.

It was certainly a very good second volume and I can not wait to see what will be in the third and if we’ll still have the opportunity to see our three couples and especially the history of our next heroes.
