Broken Heart, Book 9

Synopsis: When I found the ancient tomb of the two most powerful vampires in history, I knew I was in for a lot of trouble….

But archaeologists like me, Moira Jameson, are ready for trouble. Okay, maybe not human-species-threatening trouble. Or the kind of trouble that arrives in the form of a sexy werewolf named Drake. Yeah. Werewolf. And I thought ancient curses and walking corpses were a joke. Um…not so much.

’Cause a walking corpse named Karn wants to reveal vampires, and all of parakind, to the humans. And everyone else thinks that’s a bad idea. Then a pyramid mysteriously appears in Broken Heart, Oklahoma, and I’m appointed to get inside, survive booby traps, and awaken two very old, very hungry vampires. Luckily, Drake has my back (and my front). Unfortunately, archaeology sometimes reveals some very nasty surprises. And I’ll have to decide between saving myself…or saving the world.

Review: This series is new to me, so, well as you see it, I’m starting with the ninth volume. Yes a mess I know, but I didn’t have any problems with that and it was really nice to follow our heroine here.

Moira is a passionate archaeologist and her assistant Dove follows in all her researches. I must say that despite the age difference the two women are very close because of the difficulties of the life they have endured. But while Moira is thoughtful and more rational, Dove is pretty crazy and ready to believe anything when vampires are in the story. Yet, after the research of her dead grandfather, our archaeologist will discover something that will completely change her life and it will open her to a whole new world. Indeed, this mission will give her the opportunity to discover a pyramid of the strangest. She appears to be the only one able to operate the input and all want to access it for different reasons. But one thing unites them all, none is human. And while Karn is determined to kill two people in this building, the other vampires and werewolves want the contrary, saving the occupants to become their leaders.

I enjoyed this novel, it is full of humor and beautiful ideas. I must say that I love archeology so mixing it with the supernatural was perfect for me. Moira is a very brave young woman who has had many difficulties in life and yet she knows how to be strong against all the people who denigrate her. She will have to team up with the beautiful Drake, hoping to develop their relationship at the stage above. It was interesting to see Moira open to this new world. I was intrigued by her quite dark and mysterious past, and I admit that I did not expect at all these revelations about her and her story. But I think the character I liked the most was Dove. This girl is crazy, bubbly and full of repartee. It’s always funny to see her chat with people who are yet to another world. You will love her!

To conclude, I must say it was a nice surprise and I’m curious to read more now. There are many ideas and mythologies in this novel and I’m curious to see how all the other books are. But if the others are as good as this one, I ‘m sure it will be a great pleasure to read them!
