Demons of Oblivion, Book 3

Synopsis: What’s a woman to do when her dad’s the antichrist, her grandma’s the devil, the end of the world is at her doorstep, and she’s out to avenge the murders of her husband and kids?

Kill everything in her way.

Quarter-demon Peri Takata exists with but one goal in mind: annihilate everyone responsible for the death of her family. Then—her need for vengeance quelled—she plans to take her own life.

Her mission brings her to the vampire Zara Lain, the only known survivor of the event that destroyed Peri’s family five years ago. Hunting down a secret society of those who don’t want to be found has its challenges, however, especially when forces are working to keep the antichrist’s daughter very much alive. The apocalypse is closing in and Peri may be playing a role in it whether she wants to or not.

But when a heart long-thought dead begins to beat again with love for another, she’s not so sure about anything anymore.

Review: And this is the third book in the Demons of Oblivion series. I enjoyed the first two novels and Zara and Ryann were two heroines I took great pleasure to discover. I was therefore curious to read this new novel featuring another heroine: Peri. I think for the moment, between the three volumes I had the chance to read, it was the only one that I can describe a little under the others. Not that it is not good huh! The book is still very good, but I think I was less able to get into the character of Peri than Zara or Ryann.

Peri is a young woman completely broken by life. The sole purpose of her existence is to find those responsible for killing her husband and children. It is this mission that will bring her to find the only survivor of the massacre years later: the vampire Zara Lain. What a pleasure to find all the characters of the first two volumes! Because of course Ryan, Ellis, Nic and therefore Zara are there throughout the story to help our young demon. But then they have trouble trusting her, and Peri did not hesitate to act as she wishes without thinking about the consequences of her actions. However, she will meet many persons who will change her life forever, especially with Nic who will help her to change her future prospects. But besides that, she finally discovers the truth about her past and the reasons for these murders. Many revelations that surprise us at the same time!

As I said, it is fun to rediscover all the characters we know and I was curious to see how Ryann and Ellis had evolved. I confess that I really appreciate this couple and Ryann always makes me smile when I see how she is trying to protect the man she loves. And for the first time, Nate returns in the novel and I admit that I’m looking forward now to see him more! But back to Peri… I understand her need for vengeance and at the same time it is difficult to understand some of her actions. She often acts on a whim and must deal with the consequences later. But for the first time in her life she will learn from her choices and evolve to become another person. I was also really curious to find out more about the organization talked about throughout the story but I am sure that we still have much more to learn.

It was a good novel, and it is true that I am really looking forward to read more as Zara becomes the main character in the fourth book!

  1. If I’m basically the spawn of Hell I think I would want to kill myself… or probably not. I’ll maybe just go vigilante and irk my dad and granny. Great find, Melliane, you always seem to read these interesting stories I’ve never heard. You’re a hazard to my TBR
