Crimson Veil by Yasmine Galenorn

The Sisters of the Moon, Book 15

Synopsis: We’re the D’Artigo sisters: savvy half-human, half-Fae ex-operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. My sister Camille is a wicked good witch with three gorgeous husbands. Delilah is a two-faced werecat and a Death Maiden. And me? I’m Menolly, a vampire married to a scorching hot werepuma. And right now, we’re facing enemies on all sides…

It’s been a long and devastating week. Back in Otherworld, war has decimated the elfin city of Elqaneve, our father has gone missing, and Shadow Wing has managed to obtain another spirit seal. On the home front, somebody burned down my bar, the Wayfarer, killing eight people, including a friend.

To make matters worse, we still haven’t found a way to stop Lowestar Radcliff—the daemon in charge of a supernatural corporate power grab. He’s attempting to awaken Suvika, the lord of vice and corrupt businessmen, and we have to stop him. Our enemies are closing in on all sides, and this time, there’s no place to hide.

Review: I admit that the end of the last volume left me curious. Yes because a lot of things had been initiated and I wanted to know how everything would be unfolded and resolved.

We thus find this time Menolly our beloved vampire who must cope with the many disasters that constantly succeed. Between the destruction of her bar, her father who disappeared without a trace, the war in the Otherworld, or the demons who want to awaken an ancient evil entity and Roman who seems to fall in love with her when she knows that she will never be able to love him. Yes Menolly has many things to think about here, and nothing seems to work out. But as always, she isn’t alone and her sisters are there too, sharing their problems and also adding some at the same time. But events will evolve fast enough, or even be resolved for some but I’ll let you find out which ones.

It was interesting to see Menolly and advices that everyone is trying to give her over her behavior towards her sisters. I have not read about her first meeting with Nerissa and Roman, but it’s quite touching to see how she behaves with her wife, becoming all of a sudden much more fragile. I confess, however, that Roman is a character who intrigues me the most, and I think I could be interested by the volume that corresponds to his meeting with Menolly. Because I still have a little trouble seeing how they came to be together. In addition, we feel that their relationship will complicate gradually, especially knowing that only one of them had much stronger feelings than the other. Another character left me enough shared and it is their new human cousin Daniel who seems too good to be true. It is also here that we discover more about him as well as what he wants from the sisters. But I feel that we’ll also have more in the next novel.

The book is easy to read even if it is true that this is not really a series I follow. I am curious to find Camille in the next novel to see how the adventures of three sisters will continue and to know the purpose of the war which gets closer of their world.

  1. Oh, book 15? That’s A LOT. I’m sorry you didn’t get all your questions answered, but hopefully in the necxt one 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed this novel, it seems like a great story. Perhaps when I’m done with all my other UF/PNR series, I’ll give this one a go 🙂 Thanks for sharing, Melliane!

  2. This is one series that I remain on the fence about. I’ve been tempted to read it on several occasions, but there are just SO many installments, and after listening to one of Yasmine Galenorn’s panels at RT13, I was kind of turned off. She’s just so… “out there”, that I fear her novels will be similar. I’m glad that you’re enjoyed them though, for the most part. Maybe someday…

  3. I haven’t read any of the books in this series Melliane! Your thoughts on it have me curious though, particularly regarding the relationship between Menolly and Roman. I just want to know more about them! Thanks for putting this series on my radar:)

  4. I have been curious about this author but never tried her stuff. I am always intimidated when series get to high numbers so I rarely start them. I do like the fact that you say this really isn’t a series. I am guessing it is more like companion novels, this I can do.

  5. I think you want to read nr 9, Blood Wyne Melliane, but I admit, I have read and loved them all, and am also not sure about how the relationship between Menolly and Roman came about.

  6. Oh wow. Book 15! Such a loyal follower of this series! That’s pretty awesome. While you didn’t enjoy this nearly as much, I think I’m guessing you enjoyed it enough to find out what happens next? And that’s important. 🙂

I hope the next one will be better!
