Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews

Innkeeper Chronicles, Book 2

Synopsis: Dina DeMille doesn’t run your typical Bed and Breakfast. Her inn defies laws of physics, her fluffy dog is secretly a monster, and the only paying guest is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. But the inn needs guests to thrive, and guests have been scarce, so when an Arbitrator shows up at Dina’s door and asks her to host a peace summit between three warring species, she jumps on the chance.

Unfortunately, for Dina, keeping the peace between Space Vampires, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the devious Merchants of Baha-char is much easier said than done. On top of keeping her guests from murdering each other, she must find a chef, remodel the inn…and risk everything, even her life, to save the man she might fall in love with. But then it’s all in the day’s work for an Innkeeper…

Review: I loved the first book which was the first novel by Ilona Andrews other than Kate Daniels that I had the pleasure to read. I confess that I did not remember in details all the events of the first volume, but I was curious to discover what the authors would present us again. And I can say that once again, I was carried away by all the ideas and the characters presented.

So we find our dear Dina looking for new guests for her extraordinary inn. But while she has little hope to truly make her establishment prosper, an arbitrator comes and asks her if she would like to host a peace summit between three very dangerous factions. The fact that she is the only innkeeper to study the issue and to accept is rather strange, although she knows the potential danger of such a gathering. Yet our heroine can not turn away from that proposal. And so she will have to find a chef (something which is not easy), but also to deal with the violence and the perfidy of each clan present at the meeting. Moreover, we find with pleasure some characters of the first volume like our vampire or Sean our beloved werewolf.

In this context, our heroine will have to manage a lot of things … first of all her inn, but also all her guests very difficult to control. Although they are present to establish peace, none seems to want to concede anything to the other. And the war is therefore starting in the establishment and Dina is the only one able to handle all these people, if she succeeds it. Yes, because it is difficult to remain impartial in this environment and not to be manipulated or influenced.

Anyway, it was a pleasure to find this completely atypical universe again, as well as the pen of the authors. Dina is a heroine to which we’re attached very easily and I admit that I’m curious to discover more again. I also loved this new character introduced here, the cook who is so different from the others and it is hard not to appreciate him and we wait to see what his next actions will be in the story.

As you can see, I was once again taken away by Ilona Andrews and I highly recommend the series if you want something a little different.

  1. I didn’t know this was already out. I still have to listen to Clean Sweep, I have my copy ready to go once I finish the last Kate Daniels book which I am currently listening to. Can’t wait to try this.

  2. I’m glad I’m not the only one who forgets what the first book in a series was like. I’ve seen these books around and I was curious. Good to know they’re good. The magical inn sounds like a good premise. I’m not sure where the whole peace summit comes in. Atypical is my kind of world. 🙂

  3. Lovely review! This is such a refreshing series to me. I would love to give this a try. Where did you get a copy of this? I think our bookstore here doesn’t have copies of this series.
