The Curse of Tenth Grave by Darynda Jones

Charley Davidson, Book 10

Synopsis: As a Part-time PI and fulltime grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? How do I get gum out of my sister’s hair before she wakes up? But, “How do I trap not one malevolent god, but three?” was never among them. Until now. And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension.

There’s just one problem. One of the three stole her heart a very long time ago. Can the Razer, a god of absolute death and destruction, change his omniscient spots, or will his allegiances lie with his brothers?

Those are just a few of the questions Charley must answer, and quick. Add to that a homeless girl running for her life, an innocent man who’s been charged with murder, and a pendant made from god glass that has the entire supernatural world in an uproar, and Charley has her hands full. If she can manage to take care of the whole world-destroying-gods thing, we’re saved. If not, well…

Review: Charley Davidson is a great series that is fun to read through each of the volumes that Darynda Jones presents. The previous novel was finally a small transition, but I was eager to discover this new story and see what our heroine was going to go through this time and I can say that I’m not disappointed.

How can you resist this heroine and all her friends? Charley is more powerful than ever but also more lost. Indeed, it seems that Reyes walks away from her and she really doesn’t understand the reasons and the discussions do not seem to ease the tension as he refuses to talk. With the revelations she learned in the previous novel, our reaper wonders if she has finally been right about him … But now there is much more, she wants to recover her daughter, and to see her grow although nobody let her go in that direction. Despite all this, there is more, she is black mailed to innocent a man accused of killing his wife, she is trying to save a young homeless girl who is convinced that she will be the next person to die because of a curse … would I forgot to mention that she must also trap three gods to save her daughter? Yes, many events are listed here and I admit that I was curious to experience it all!

As always Darynda Jones completely takes us into her story with her characters. We observe the evolution of Charley after all what happened to her and it’s pretty impressive to see what she can do now, especially when she loses control. As I said it is also sad to see the relationship between her and Reyes although we hope that everything will work out quickly. We have many fascinating events to follow with Charley once again and new events are introduced here and I’m really anxious to know the result. Anyway, I’m glad I found the gang again as I had a great time with them. Again, I have to wait for the sequel but I’m sure I will be rewarded in the end! You should really discover the series if it is not done yet! It’s primordial! (And yet you have not read the small sentences beginning of each chapter, so much fun!)

  1. I’m SO behind this series . . . Thankfully, I basically have all the instalments out so far, it’s just a matter of finding the time to catch up with them *sigh*
Glad you loved this one, though! 🙂
