Carolina Beach, Book 1
Synopsis: How can you imagine forever with someone who’s leaving everything behind?
Callahan, a former army sniper, wants to make an escape from his past and everything he experienced at war, but most of all, just not feel. Feeling leads to pain and he’s suffered enough. When he inherits a house on South Carolina’s Kiawah Island, he packs his bags, lured by the peace and seclusion he thinks it will bring. But, Callahan never counted on meeting anyone like Trinity . . .
Trinity has always been the cute, and funny one, who most guys overlook in pursuit of her “hot” friends. She became used to being everyone’s pal, until the day the young man she was attracted to, was drawn to her in return. He became her first great love, and first crushing heartbreak when she found him in bed with one of her closest friends.
To move forward, and to carry out her commitment to helping those in need, Trinity enlists in the Peace Corps, but not before returning to Kiawah for one last memorable summer. She just never imagined it would be so unforgettable.
Callahan doesn’t want to get close to anyone—let alone Trinity. He finds her perkiness insufferable and her attempts to entice a smile distracting. After all, he’s in Kiawah to leave all feelings behind. But when it comes to Trinity, who feels everything, it’s hard not to feel something.
Neither expected to fall in love. And no one could have predicted how inseverable they’d become.
Review: Cecy Robson returns with a new series and as always I was intrigued to discover what she would introduce us again. With two New Adult series, the author became a mistress of this genre, so how not to succumb to this new novel, especially with such themes!
Indeed, we see the meeting of two very different characters. Firstly, we have Callahan … This man was broken by life, by the war in Iraq he had to do for several years as a sniper, the loss of his friends throughout his years, some he also feels guilty for or the targets he sometimes had like children who still haunt him. No, Callahan has not had an easy life so far and he only hopes, since he came back home, to forget and move forward as best as he can, though his injuries are impossible to forget. This is also why we discover a man of few words, who doesn’t bind relationships with people and who hopes to remain lonely, but he was probably not expecting the determination of Trinity. Ah Trinity … what about her except that she is the opposite of Callahan. Yes, she is a very young woman, fresh, sparkling, curious, determined and above all full of desire to help others and to love life. We can only have a particular affection with respect to that person. It’s great to follow such a character, as well as to discover her, to see that she loves people and that she is desperate to be here for them. As I said, her main goal is to help people in difficulty and it is also in this way that her family has raised her, so when she meets Callahan, we feel that they have something. She wants to be there for him and to help him. But Trinity has her share of sadness as well, especially after discovering her best friend and her fiancé together, and since, the young woman is very suspicious. It was great to see her interest in this man, to see what she determined to open to him, trying to make him talk even if he does not desire it. Their interactions are strong enough and it was very touching to see her efforts and those of Callahan who did not think he would fall under her spell. It is a relationship that will help them both to move forward and heal.
Did I mention the family of the young woman? I admit that the meeting of the three was something to see and it was very exciting and fun to see their trade and a Callahan surprised while seeing this atypical family and finally one that could make him much more than that he thought.
It’s quite sad to see the condition of the two characters at the beginning of the story with so little confidence, but I had a great time with the story and I couldn’t put the book down. I’m curious to see what we will have next, this one being the first volume.
