Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews

Kate Daniels, Book 3

Synopsis: When magic strikes and Atlanta goes to pieces, it’s a job for Kate Daniels…

Drafted to work for the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, mercenary Kate Daniels has more paranormal problems these days than she knows what to do with. And in Atlanta, where magic comes and goes like the tide, that’s saying a lot.

But when Kate’s werewolf friend Derek is discovered nearly dead, she must confront her greatest challenge yet. As her investigation leads her to the Midnight Games—an invitation-only, no-holds-barred, ultimate preternatural fighting tournament—she and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, uncover a dark plot that may forever alter the face of Atlanta’s shapeshifting community…

Review: Needless to say how much I love this series (and Curran) and how happy I was to find Kate (and Curran!) in this volume 3.

Kate’s life of is definitely not easy: between her job, her origins, and her annoying tendency to plunge into trouble, her nights are short. It’s not because she has to take down a banshee from a lamp post that she will say the opposite. Especially when she comes across a crime scene where the Pack, or rather some members of the Pack, make her understand that she is not welcome.

Yes, the trouble and Kate, it’s “one” … And really “one” when she realizes that Curran (*long sigh* from a groupie … in case you did not understand) is not aware of that. There, it is no longer troubles that point the tip of their nose, but a disaster that could shave the city of Atlanta.

In this volume, all the ingredients that made the success of previous volumes are present: a dark and original universe, a great heroine, some endearing characters (between Dereck, Raphael – a creative that one!), Andrea, Julie. ..), action (the game scenario is really good), humor, and … Currannnnnnnn!

(Livre-vie, breathe ….)

I resume. So all the ingredients are there, but the authors managed to breathe a little more into their story. Kate’s personal story. This volume is much more intimate. We understand her better and better. Her motivations, her self-denial, her hesitations, her doubts and her fears too. It’s a complex character that had only been sketched in the previous volumes and who really takes shape here. I loved her.

And then there is Curran. And a scene in a jaccuzzy.
Curran + jaccuzzy = I let you imagine.
Well not too much! (*long sigh* x2)

We also have his well-distributed repartees. A little note with a menu at the end of the book … Anyway … Curran …

Ahhhhhhhh! Waiting for Volume 4 is cruel!
