No One Lives Twice by Julie Moffett

Lexi Carmichael Mystery, Book 1

Synopsis: I’m Lexi Carmichael, geek extraordinaire. I spend my days stopping computer hackers at the National Security Agency. My nights? Those I spend avoiding my mother and eating cereal for dinner. Even though I work for a top-secret agency, I’ve never been in an exciting car chase, sipped a stirred (not shaken) martini, or shot a poison dart from an umbrella.

Until today, that is, when two gun-toting thugs popped up in my life and my best friend disappeared. So, I’ve enlisted the help of the Zimmerman twins—the reclusive architects of America’s most sensitive electronic networks—to help me navigate a bewildering maze of leads to find her.

Along the way, my path collides with a sexy government agent and a rich, handsome lawyer, both of whom seem to have the hots for me. Hacking, espionage, sexy spy-men—it’s a geek girl’s dream come true. If it weren’t for those gun-toting thugs…

Review: When I read the synopsis, I must admit that I was curious to discover the story. I had never heard of the books and I must say that I was convinced that it was a French author. But I was really surprised to see that this was not the case.

Lexi works in IT at the NSA, and her work is top secret. She is not a person who works in the field and, moreover, she knows nothing about it. So when her best friend sends her documents that everyone is ready to retrieve at all costs, she finds herself in the middle of a story that is beyond her control. Thanks to her friends, she will try to understand what is happening and especially help her friend even if it may cost her her job. However, nothing will be easy and she will have to face different individuals who hide many secrets from her.

First of all I must say that the novel is classified as a cosy mystery in French, but for me it’s not really that, but rather chick-lit novel like Stephanie Plum or Bobby Faye, so not necessarily what I expect from a cozy. But I did know that when I read the synopsis, so I wasn’t surprised and the novel delivers perfectly what I expected. I had a very good time with this heroine who attracts disasters like no others, as well as sexy men even if it’s not necessarily for her. It’s a very nice novel if you don’t want something complicated. Well, don’t think too much about inconsistencies because there are some, you just have to think about an entertaining story. That’s exactly what the novel proposes.

I’m curious to read the rest now and I took the sequel in English! To see how things are going to be for our young heroine!
