Synopsis: Eleven-year-old Melody has a photographic memory. Her head is like a video camera that is always recording. Always. And there’s no delete button. She’s the smartest kid in her whole school – but no one knows it. Most people – her teachers and doctors included – don’t think she’s capable of learning, and up until recently her school days consisted of listening to the same preschool-level alphabet lessons again and again and again.
If only she could speak up, if only she could tell people what she thinks and knows… but she can’t, because Melody can’t talk. She can’t walk. She can’t write.Being stuck inside her head is making Melody go out of her mind – that is, until she discovers something that will allow her to speak for the first time ever. At last Melody has a voice… but not everyone around her is ready to hear it.
Review: One page and a half… That’s the time it took me to know that I was going to love this book.
No, actually. I only had to read one line of the synopsis, but I didn’t want to brag, you know ? haha
Out of my mind is a book that could affect anyone, in my opinion. The story of a child growing up with her handicap – Fearless spirit stuck in a broken body. Her words, sometimes resigned, sometime revolted, always tinged with poetry and an incredible sweetness.
The author offers us a just and true narrative which makes us learns to see through the eyes of a different person (or more precisely, of a normal child trapped in a body which doesn’t obey to her, leading other people to think that she is different).
What I liked :
– The Emotions that this book created in me. Torrents of condolence, love and anger in front of certain situations that Melody has to face.
– Her incredible intelligence and photographic memory make of Melody a person full of information of all kinds. I had the occasion to learn a lot of things in this book, dealing with sicknesses or other lighter subjects. I think that when we finish a book with « something » like here, the author made a success of his work. If he brings us knowledge on certain subjects or if he contributes to bring us something (a lesson of life, one moment of happiness, a new interest for something that we didn’t know about) an author will have made a success of his work if he allows us to be enriched by his work, in a way or another.
– A writing so poetic, peaceful and just… I don’t really know how to explain it, but there is something beautiful in these words. Melody, the main character is the narrator, and through her words, we can only find that she is a beautiful person… Is it strange to say that? … Let’s say it’s not !:D
What I didn’t like :
– I want MORE
Anyway, I fell in love with this book full of sweetness. I really recommend it to you with all my heart ! And for everyone, whatever you like to read because even if you only read fantasy books (for example), this book really worth the exception!
Read it if : You want a calm read which affects you from the first to the last page.
Don’t read it if : You don’t like to read ! SERIOUSLY WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE IN THAT CASE ?! (Just kidding, stay please, I love you).
