Review: I had read some novels in the paranormal romance series by MJ Scott, but when she has announced the release of a brand new series, with a different note, I admit that I was intrigued. A kind of historical mix, added to that some intrigues of the court, witches and power, a mix that we can only appreciate.

Lady Sophia is an innocent girl, frightened because about her future. She is a heir to the throne even if a far one, and she is waiting to see if her witch gifts will manifest or not … But if her powers appear, she will have to marry the man chosen to be her husband and it is not a future that many are waiting for with pleasure. Yet on the day of her birthday, everything will change … Oh yes, because while the palace was attacked by an enemy nation, our heroine is far from the place with a bodyguard of the day: Cameron. But it is also during that day that she discovers her powers and that she realizes that she is and will remain a royal witch. Unfortunately, the events taking place early in the book prevent her to being bound and soon many people will be interested in her. Her power grows and some wonder if she is not a threat to the throne, a pawn who could be not as malleable and suggestible.

I enjoyed discovering Lady Sophia. This is a young woman who evolves throughout the story, a fair person who will quickly understand that people sometimes have deceptive appearances, they soon forget friendship when power and desire come into play. It is rather sad to see how people behave when they feel threatened by someone while there were no problems at the start. Fortunately for her, her bodyguard and finally a little more than that will be there for her, to support her and help her. I loved this young man too. He is true, tries to understand what is happening and acts as best as he can in all situations. Their story is not really easy under the circumstances but I think they both form a beautiful duo. Through them, we discover the world of the author, myths she chose to explore and I confess that I found it all fascinating. She had lots of ideas here, and we remain captivated by this new world.

It was a good first volume, which perfectly lays the foundation of the history and I’m very curious now to read and learn more.

Avis : J’avais lu quelques romans de la série de romance paranormale de M.J. Scott, mais quand elle a annoncé la sortie d’une toute nouvelle histoire, avec un registre différent, j’avoue que j’ai été intriguée. Une sorte de mélange historique, ajouté à cela des intrigues de la cour, sorcières et pouvoir, un mix qu’on ne peut qu’apprécier.

Lady Sophia est une jeune fille innocente et effrayée à cause de son avenir. Elle est en lice pour devenir héritière, et attend de voir si ses dons de sorcière vont se manifester ou pas… Mais si ses pouvoirs apparaissent, elle devra se marier avec l’homme qui lui sera choisi et ce n’est pas un futur que beaucoup attendent avec plaisir. Pourtant le jour de son anniversaire, tout va changer… Oh oui, car au moment où le palais se fait attaquer par une nation ennemie, notre héroïne se trouve loin de l’endroit avec un garde son garde du corps du jour : Cameron. Mais c’est aussi ce jour-là qu’elle découvre ses pouvoirs et qu’elle réalise qu’elle est et restera une sorcière royale. Hélas, les événements qui se déroulent au début du livre empêchent son pouvoir d’être lié et bientôt de nombreuses personnes vont s’intéresser à elle. Son pouvoir grandit et certains se demandent si elle se trouve pas être une menace pour le trône, un pion qui n’est plus aussi malléable ou influençable.

J’ai bien aimé découvrir Lady Sophia. C’est une jeune femme qui évolue tout au long de l’histoire, une personne loyale qui va très vite comprendre que les gens présentent parfois des apparences trompeuses, qu’ils oublient vite l’amitié quand le pouvoir et le désir entrent en jeux. C’est d’ailleurs assez triste de voir comment les gens se comportent quand ils se sentent menacés par quelqu’un alors qu’il n’y avait aucun problème au départ. Heureusement pour elle, son garde du corps et finalement un peu plus sera là pour elle, pour la soutenir et l’aider. J’ai beaucoup apprécié ce jeune homme aussi. Il est vrai, essaie de comprendre ce qu’il se passe et d’agir au mieux dans toutes les situations. Leur histoire n’est pas vraiment facile vu les circonstances mais je pense qu’ils forment tous les deux un très joli duo. A travers eux, on découvrir le monde de l’auteure, les mythes qu’elle a choisi d’explorer et j’avoue que j’ai trouvé le tout fascinant. Elle a eu beaucoup d’idées ici, et on reste captivé par ce nouvel univers.

C’était un bon premier tome, qui pose parfaitement les bases de l’histoire et je suis très curieuse à présent de lire la suite et d’en apprendre plus.
