The Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa

The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten, Book 1

Synopsis: Don’t look at Them. Never let Them know you can see Them.

That is Ethan Chase’s unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs—including his reputation—begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he’s dare to fall for.

Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister’s world—the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myths and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.

My name is Ethan Chase. And I may not live to see my eighteenth birthday.

Review:  What a pleasure to find a new book in the universe of the Iron Fey saga. We leave this time Ash and Meghan to follow Ethan, the younger brother of our heroine. Well it does not mean that we completely abandon the old characters, because yes, they appear here as well and I must say I was very happy about it!

We realize that Ethan’s life was not easy since the departure of Meghan. He faced the Faes and their pettiness, making him rebellious and the most hated boy wherever he goes. But then on the first day in his new school everything changes. He helps a half-fae who’s determined to now get information from our hero to protect himself from the strange fae who hunts him. But Ethan will also be approached by the most popular girl in his school. Something that is far from fun for the bad boys of the place. Nobody approach Kenzie without repercussions. Unfortunately, despite his desire to stay away from the problems of the Faes, He will not have the choice when new strange faes appear and others disappear, even the boy he helped. Ethan knows he is the only one who can help him and he is determined to do something. He didn’t expect however to take Kenzie with him, the girl he wants to protect at all costs. They will thus go to Faerie to prevent Meghan of what is happening despite it is not to everyone’s taste.

Ethan has changed since the first volume of the series. He has grown up and has built a shell to not hurt anyone. Kenzie will change everything, this very stubborn girl decides to stay with him and to accompany him wherever he goes. I enjoyed the development of our characters and I was pleasantly surprised to see Meghan and Ash in the story. Of course we see through the eyes of Ethan, and even if we understand his anger, it’s heartbreaking when you realize the consequences of his words on this couple that we know from the start.

I loved to follow these new characters here, we can meet a lot of characters from the other books and meet new ones as well and it was really nice. I confess that I am very curious to learn more about Kierran. This boy is very intriguing and I’m sure he has a lot to offer. A new threat is introduced to us and I think we will learn more soon.

It was a very good new novel, although I’m still afraid to always have the same things at the end. I’ll wait with curiosity the next novel as I was happy to discover this one.
