Phoebe Meadows, Book 2

Synopsis: Phoebe Meadows has one thing on her mind: Free her mother.

For the last month, Phoebe has been training in the Valkyrie stronghold readying for battle. But when she stumbles into a secluded valley after a day of grueling practice, she’s given a dire prediction. Phoebe must leave the stronghold immediately with the aid of the giant, Junnal, to rescue her mother from the dark elves. If Phoebe fails, Leela will be transported to a place that can no longer be reached.

Leaving Fen behind threatens to undo her, but Phoebe stays true to the mission. Along the way, she allies with the god Baldur and an old white elf mage. Together, they storm the realm, and with the help of an angry wolf and her Valkyrie sisters, they just might stand a chance to free the valiant shieldmaiden.

But Phoebe soon learns that in order to save her mother, she might lose something too precious to sacrifice…

Review: I had a good time with the first volume but it is true that something was missing for me to really have a great time with the story. I was a little hesitant about this second part, I was afraid to have the same feeling but I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised. Indeed, the story brought me this little thing that I had missed in the first book.

I am a fan of everything related to mythology and I was curious to be able to learn more about all the characters. Indeed, the universe widens, the past unfolds and we discover new characters that will have a great impact on the story. Phoebe needs to take responsibility for her actions and it was a pleasure to see her take a stand and make her choices in front of all those present, whatever the consequences. Besides, great events will take place here, notably about the search for Leela or the meeting between Baldur and Phoebe. Great actions that will upset the life of each of our characters …

Once again, Amanda Carlson presents us with a story filled with action and the romance remains in the background, but it also allows us to learn more about the characters and their past. It was touching to finally meet Leela and see her reunion with Phoebe or to discover Baldur and the freshness he brings to the story. Finally, the new mage and Willa are a very good addition to this small team.

I will not say more but the Norns will be more determined than ever, events could turn in their favor and I am curious to discover how all this will happen in the end. Many aspects have been set in motion and we only have to wait impatiently for the next volume to learn more! I’m really curious!

Phoebe doit immédiatement quitter la forteresse avec l’aide du géant, Junnal, pour sauver sa mère des elfes noirs. Si Phoebe échoue, Leela sera transportée dans un endroit inatteignable.

Laisser derrière Fen menace de la détruire, mais Phoebe reste fidèle à sa mission. En chemin, elle s’allie avec le dieu Baldur et un vieux mage, elfe blanc. Ensemble, ils assaillent le royaume, et avec l’aide d’un loup en colère et ses sœurs Valkyries, ils pourraient avoir juste une chance de libérer la femme vaillante.

Mais Phoebe apprend bientôt que pour sauver sa mère, elle pourrait perdre quelque chose beaucoup trop précieux…

Avis : J’avais passé un bon moment avec le premier tome mais c’est vrai qu’il m’avait manqué un petit quelque chose pour vraiment passer un très bon moment avec l’histoire. J’étais un peu hésitante face à ce second volet, j’avais peur d’avoir le même sentiment mais je dois avouer que j’ai été plaisamment surprise. En effet, l’histoire m’a apporté ce petit truc qui m’avait manqué dans le premier et j’ai ainsi pu passer un excellent moment.

Je suis fan de tout ce qui a trait à la mythologie dans les livres et j’étais curieuse de pouvoir en apprendre plus sur l’ensemble des personnages. En effet, l’univers s’élargit, le passé se dévoile et nous découvrons de nouveaux personnages qui vont avoir un grand impact sur l’histoire. Phoebe doit se prendre en main et assumer ses actes et c’était un plaisir de la voir prendre position et assumer ses choix face à tous ceux présents, quelles qu’en soient les conséquences. D’ailleurs de grands évènements vont se dérouler ici, notamment la recherche de Leela ou encore la rencontre entre Baldur et Phoebe. De grandes actions qui vont chambouler la vie de chacun de nos personnages…

Encore une fois, Amanda Carlson nous présente une histoire remplie d’action et la romance reste vraiment au second plan mais qui permet aussi d’en apprendre plus sur les personnages et leur passé. C’était touchant de rencontrer enfin Leela et de voir ses retrouvailles avec Phoebe ou encore de découvrir Baldur et la fraicheur qu’il apporte à l’histoire. Enfin, le nouveau mage et Willa sont de très bons ajouts à cette petite équipe.

Je ne vais pas en dire plus mais les Norns seront plus déterminées que jamais, des évènements pourraient tourner en leur faveur et je suis curieuse de découvrir comment tout cela va se dérouler au final. De nombreux aspects ont été mis en branle et il ne nous reste qu’à attendre impatiemment le prochain tome pour en apprendre d’avantage ! Je suis vraiment curieuse !

Phoebe Meadows, Book 1

Synopsis: When Phoebe Meadows gets struck by a strange light in the stockroom of Macy’s, life as she knows it flies out the window. As if being hit by lightning isn’t bad enough, she’s accosted in the subway by a man with a missing hand, arrives home to find a raven on her kitchen counter, and her neighbor, Ingrid, shows up dressed like a gladiator hell-bent on protecting her.

Before Ingrid can shuttle her to safety, Phoebe is kidnapped and tossed into one of the Nine Worlds where she’s quickly forced to come to terms with what she is: A valkyrie. The only problem is, she has no idea what that means.

After a narrow escape, she finds an unlikely ally in Loki’s son, Fenrir. Together the valkyrie and the wolf must battle their way back to New York City and reach the valkyrie stronghold where Ingrid is waiting for her. But with danger and obstacles at every turn, she might not live long enough to learn the full truth about who and what she really is…

Review: I was really intrigued when I learned that Amanda Carlson would release a new book and I admit that I was looking forward to immersing myself in this new story. How not to be? Especially when we see that the Norse mythology is being honored here! I love everything related to mythology and urban fantasy is a genre that I like more than anything, this novel therefore seemed perfect for me!

Phoebe lives her life as anyone else until it changes dramatically the day a light hits her in the back room of the store where she works. Indeed, it is at this time that she learns she is supposed to be a Valkyrie and that she is the daughter of Odin, exiled since birth. That’s a lot to swallow for someone who knows nothing about this world, especially when it includes a manhunt where she is nothing more than a prey. And what a prey! It seems that all the most powerful beings are in pursuit for her. When her neighbor and Aunt, Ingrid, is not able to explain what she is and what she has to do, Phoebe finds herself propelled into another world where she will have to find new allies and to understand very quickly the limits of her capacity to survive in this new world.

I took a lot of pleasure in discovering this novel. The mythology is a main point of the story and I found that the ideas were carried out brilliantly. Many characters are found here and I loved to meet and get to know them all. But the one really featured here is no-one but the demi-god Fenrir! Oh yes, how not to fall in love with this character who is finally ready to do anything to help and save our heroine. But I’ll let you the opportunity to learn more about him. In terms of Phoebe, we understand her confusion over what is happening but it was fascinating to see the evolution and to find out who she is and what she can really do. She progresses from this rather awkward girl into a young woman determined and desperate to help the persons she loves!

Yes it was a nice discovery for an introduction into a new series and I’m really excited to be able to read more now!

Mais avec le danger et les obstacles à chaque détour, elle pourrait ne pas vivre assez longtemps pour apprendre toute la vérité sur qui et ce qu’elle est vraiment …

Avis : J’étais vraiment intriguée quand j’ai appris qu’Amanda Carlson allait sortir un nouveau livre et j’avoue que j’étais impatiente de pouvoir me plonger dans cette nouvelle histoire. Comment ne pas l’être ? Notamment quand on voit que la mythologie nordique est mise à l’honneur ici ! J’adore tout ce qui a trait à la mythologie et l’urban fantasy est un genre que j’apprécie plus que tout, aussi ce roman semblait parfait pour moi !

Phoebe va voir sa vie changer du tout au tout le jour où une lumière la frappe dans l’arrière-boutique du magasin où elle travaille. En effet, c’est à ce moment-là qu’elle apprend qu’elle est censée être une valkyrie et qu’elle est la fille d’Odin exilée depuis la naissance. C’est déjà beaucoup à avaler pour quelqu’un qui ne connait rien à ce monde, notamment quand elle comprend que ça équivaut à une chasse à l’homme où elle n’est rien d’autre que la proie. Et quelle proie ! Il semble que tous les êtres les plus puissants soient à ses trousses. Avant que sa voisine et tante Ingrid ne puisse lui expliquer ce qu’elle est et ce qu’elle doit faire, Pheobe se retrouve propulsée dans un autre monde où elle va devoir trouver de nouveaux alliés et comprendre très vite les limites de ses capacités pour arriver à survivre dans ce nouvel univers.

J’ai pris beaucoup de plaisir à découvrir ce roman. La mythologie est un point principal de l’histoire et j’ai trouvé que les idées étaient menées avec brio. De nombreux personnages sont retrouvés ici et j’ai adoré tous les rencontrer et apprendre à les connaitre. Mais celui qui ressort avec Phoebe n’est rien d’autre que le demi-dieu Fenrir ! Oh oui, comment ne pas succomber au charme de ce personnage qui est finalement prêt à tout pour aider et sauver notre héroïne. Mais je vais vous laisser l’occasion d’en apprendre plus à son sujet. Pour ce qui est de Pheobe, on comprend sa confusion par rapport à tout ce qu’il se passe mais c’était fascinant de la voir évoluer et découvrir qui elle est et ce qu’elle peut vraiment faire. Elle progresse de cette fille assez maladroite en une jeune femme déterminée et prête à tout pour aider ce qu’elle aime !

Oui c’était une jolie découverte pour une introduction dans une toute nouvelle série et je suis vraiment impatiente de pouvoir en lire plus à présent !
