Celine’s adventures: Reckless by S.C. Stephens

Celine is a French blogger who writes some fictional reviews about the books she loves the most and they always make me laugh. I hope the humor even if translated is kept. Thanks for her reviews.

Thoughtless, Book 3

Synopsis: Can love survive when life gets Reckless?

When the band hits it big, Kiera and Kellan must ask themselves: Can their love for each other survive the constant pressures of superstardom? The friendships they’ve formed, the new family they’ve found, and the history they’ve forged will all play a part in helping them navigate the turbulent waters of the band’s exploding popularity. A greedy executive hell-bent on success, a declining pop star looking for an edge, and a media circus that twists lies into truths are just some of the obstacles the lovers will have to overcome if they are going to remain together. Fame comes with a price-but will it cost Kiera and Kellan everything?

——————————————————

I walk on the dirt road while pressing a small button on the side of my watch. The dial lights up and displays midnight. I love this gadget. I could have used the flashlight on my phone which I also use to guide me into the surrounding darkness, but I really love this button, it gives me the impression of being a secret agent. I stifle the laughter born in my throat. Tonight, I’m quite a secret agent…

My cap is going to fall again, and I put it back in place by pulling on each side. It is a bit small, and the blue wool itches. This is the one my grandmother knitted me when I was 6 years old. I chose my outfit in a hurry tonight, and I do not have any other cap to cover me, except an old cowboy hat, but I was frankly ridiculous, and above all, it would not maintain the scarf that I use as a hood in place. I cut two holes for the eyes in the pink stole, and I tied it behind my head. No one can recognize me, I am sure of that. But I should have thought to make a hole for the nose. I have a little trouble breathing.

For my mission tonight, I have to be quiet, and I learned the lesson with Gilles Legardinier with his book Demain j’arrête. The Peruvian hat is not the accessory to wear when you want to go unnoticed, even though I’m not sure that the cows are interested in my outfit. But who knows? The Gods-of-all-the-things-of-the-land-and-the-sea have spies everywhere.

I go between two barbed wires, my precious bundle pressed against me. I made it stuck around my waist with a large scotch. It contains no less than three books, some big in fact, and I did not want to lose them. I hear a crack that isn’t a good thing, not knowing if my jacket or pants were attacked by the barbed wire. Perhaps the two elsewhere. This is not serious. I have to save these and prevent them to appear on the list of black-banned-books and well… there are always sacrifices to be made for any great cause.

Because even the last volume of this trilogy is worth it, oh yes … Of course, there is less tension between Kiera and Kellan who have learned to trust each other, but love and passion are still at the appointment. What do you want, I’m sentimental, and I liked their story … Yes, even this last volume, which, if not carried me like the others, closed their love story without giving me an unfinished taste. And I was happy to see them, to follow once again the pen of the writer who knew so well how to give them lives, and who gave the secondary characters such as Anna and Griffin a more prominent place which does not displease me. A volume of maturity under the sign of love, a novel that I’ve closed with regrets, their story is now over. Then I have to protect it, just as the volumes one and two.

Zigzagging between the dung left by the cows of the meadow, I arrive near the chestnut tree that sits in the center. I saw it as a sign, because when I was a child, the chestnuts were my favorite weapons to protect the ducklings from the “duck pond” from rats who wanted to eat them. While my grandmother was preparing something to eat, I learned to aim. There are not many chestnut trees here, a sign, I tell you.

“Note for next time: thinking to take a shovel.”

The ground is hard under my fingers, and the hole should be deep. But I persist, and after removing the package to the bottom, I cover it as best as I can. All this time, I blocked my thoughts. Daunting task when you know me. But I really do not want them to find me.

A loud mooing appears behind me. I turn slowly. Well, no, it’s in the novels that the heroes are turning slowly. Not in real life. I turn around so fast that I almost fell. A huge Charolais bull stands a few meters from me, staring at me.

I’m spotted …

  1. I have come so many times close to buying this one. The first book was even on sale a few months ago. I should have gotten it! This is my first time reading one of your reviews and what an introduction 🙂
    Thank you Celine!
