Reaper’s Property by Joanna Wylde

Reapers MC, Book 1

Synopsis: Marie doesn’t need a complication like Horse. The massive, tattooed, badass biker who shows up at her brother’s house one afternoon doesn’t agree. He wants Marie on his bike and in his bed. Now.

But Marie just left her abusive jerk of an ex-husband and she’s not looking for a new man. Especially one like Horse—she doesn’t know his real name or where he lives, she’s ninety percent certain he’s a criminal and that the “business” he talks with her brother isn’t website design. She needs him out of her life, which would be a snap if he’d just stop giving her mind-blowing orgasms.

Horse is part of the Reapers Motorcycle Club, and when he wants something, he takes it. What he wants is Marie, but she’s not interested in becoming “property of”.

Then her brother steals from the club. Marie can save him by giving Horse what he wants—at home, in public, on his bike… If she’s a very, very good girl, she’ll get lots more of those orgasms only he can offer, and he’ll let her brother live.
Maybe.

Review: Anna had some fabulous compliments about this series and I confess that by seeing all the volumes on her blog, I started to be really intrigued. In addition, it must be said that I have never read a book highlighting bikers and it’s true that in the United States, it’s quite a different lifestyle. I was therefore really curious to start this one.

Marie is a young woman who has just left her violent husband and now hopes to rebuild her life in peace. For this, she returns to live with her brother, Jeff. The only problem? Jeff does not really keep a good company and all that easily falls on our beloved heroine who did not ask anything. After trying a little love-story with a biker member, her brother is now attracting their wrath. After scamming them and stealing them a lot of money, the man she thought she knew, Horse (I’m sure you’re wondering why he calls himself this way), offers her a deal: to become his property the time Jeff reimburses them or to kill him. It’s a pretty easy choice to make, especially for a brother and sister who love each other deeply. Yet Mary does not know what she agreed to do, and even though Horse appreciates her very much, she is really there for his pleasure (okay for hers too). Alas, her brother isn’t done yet.

We can read this novel quite fast and easily. I had a good time in discovering Mary and Horse but it’s true that I expected maybe a little more. Not that it is not good, no, because the romance is nice enough, and I liked the biker side but I think that what bothered me the most is the repetitions and the redundancy of the steamy scenes between our two heroes. I think that in the end it annoyed me a bit because it takes over the story that finally turns around that fact and what Mary had accepted to do or not. However, it was very interesting to see how the integration took place at the club and how she would act in the long run.

To conclude, it was a good book even if it is true that I have been a little less carried away than I thought. I perhaps expected too much from the beginning, but I still had a good time and I’m curious to see what will result with the sequel.

  1. I personally love this series! The stories get better in my opinion. And hotter. I’ve read a few biker romance books, but this series seemed a bit more realistic, without overusing some pretty annoying cliches, like unnecessary curse words. Can’t wait to see what you think about the other books in the series 🙂

  2. I read this one a while back and remember enjoying it overall, though it didn’t pull any punches in the portrayal of an MC. I did struggle with some of the scenes involving the club itself and how the women seemed fine being used for sex. I never made it to book 2 so I’m looking forward to your thoughts on it!

  3. I still haven’t gotten the whole biker book thing. Maybe I really need to give it a hard look. Sounds like this one was solid, but I don’t think it is the one to start into the whole biker thing.
