The Cahill Witch Chronicles, Tome 1

Synopsis: Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they’re witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word… especially after she finds her mother’s diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family’s destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren’t safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.

Review: I’ve had this novel on my TBR pile for a very long time and I really fell in love with the cover. I must say that the book is a very beautiful object.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read any novels about witches, and even more, one that’s a bit historical, so I was very curious to get into the story. Since the death of their mother, Cate, Maura and Tess live almost alone. It suits them.  Cate, the eldest, has to take care of everyone and hide from society that they’re actually witches. It’s even harder when witches are hunted down and killed. Their secret must be kept well.

But now that Cate is approaching her seventeenth birthday, our heroine is going to have to make a very important choice. She’s either gonna have to join the Sisters or she’s gonna have to get married. But as their powers get more and more out of control, as Maura yearns for friends and a secret to share, our heroine will do everything she can to protect them. But what do you do when love gets in the way?

It was a really nice novel and I was very curious to see how Cate would cope in this hostile climate, as she tries to find out what she really was. Something that in the end was very dangerous!
