Riley Jenson Guardian, Book 9

Synopsis: Some nights never end.
Some desires never die. . . .

Shape-shifting werewolf and vampire Riley Jenson is through with death—causing it, solving it, surviving it. Her soul mate, Kye Murphy, is dead—and at Riley’s own hands. Not even the seductive embrace of her vampire lover, Quinn, can fully ease her mind, for she has begun questioning everything that makes her Riley—including her job at the Directorate.

Now, the ritualistically slain bodies of ex-cons have started turning up. Reluctantly, Riley takes the case, but something even worse is waiting in the wings. A vicious enemy from her past is determined to strip Riley of everything that gives her life any meaning: her lover, her brother—and even her own identity. Can Riley survive this ultimate assault? All she knows is, she must fight one last time to find answers, before everything goes dark forever.

Review: And here is finally the last book in the Riley Jenson saga. Before the Risa Jones series, I wanted to know the end of the adventures of our beloved wolf. I always have a little trouble with conclusions, it is always so difficult to close a saga with one book, to give a worthy story after all the volumes that we have read before. But ultimately this volume is not really an end in itself as Riley is again present in Risa Jones. This is also a very nice surprise! But back to this volume.

Our young heroine has managed to survive the death of her soul mate, something that it is quite extraordinary in itself, but still hangs over her the constant reminder of what she can not have now. Furthermore, the absence of Kade is felt and even if Riley does her best to keep her head above water, it is a bit difficult. But she will not have much respite time as some quite strange murders are perpetrated! Indeed, it seems that a man dressed as a demon is killing former criminals on request and the agency is determined to find the culprit. Riley needs this job to think about something else but luckily Quinn will always be there to help and support her whatever happens. But everything will be complicated when Blake decides to put his threat into execution and to avenge his former humiliation. So yes, Riley will have many other problems.

It was really a very good volume and I was curious to see how our wolf would be able to get away this time. I must say that it’s not easy for her and she faces many problems by herself. We’re sad for her throughout the story, hoping everything will work out and so she can finally live the life she wants to. But everything seems more complicated than expected.

This novel will allow us to learn a little more about Riley and her family and it was nice to have elements to better understand them. Her relationship with Quinn will allow her to survive and to have a purpose in life. They really are perfect for each other and we take a great pleasure in seeing them together. Both characters have evolved since the beginning of the series, as each character. A new life is now open to them and I hope we’ll learn more through the second Keri Arthur’s series. The author also presents us a very nice final, concluding what had started earlier.

Sounds like this was a solid end to the series Melliane, with things wrapped up well before the new series kicks off. Hopefully the new series ends up being as strong as this one for you!

I agree with you about the conclusions. When you follow a series for so long, it’s so difficult to say goodbye, not to mention the fear of disappointment. I’m glad this was a good one for you.

I feel you, there’s a lot of series whose endings I still have to read. If it’s not done well there’s no going back so it has to be good…. like this

    1. Melliane

      yes! totally!

I definitely won’t be able to catch up with this series (9 books!) but I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it when so many others usually struggle to stay interesting at this point. I’m very excited to read her new book in January though!

    1. Melliane

      me too!

I always worry about last books too, because so often I’m disappointed. I’m glad that it’s not really over. I still haven’t started this series. I suppose it’s better to read them back to back anyway.

By the description I would assume this would be a mostly sad book, I’m glad she got her happy ending.

    1. Melliane

      yes it’s complicated… It’s ok
