Firefight by Brandon Sanderson

Reckoners, Book 2

Synopsis: Babylon Restored, formerly Manhattan, may give David answers. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David’s willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David’s heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic—Firefight. And he’s willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers.

Review: I must confess that I have not read the first volume, but it seems that I am destined to discover the Brandon Sanderson’s novels by beginning with the second books. I loved Words of Radiance and some other ones and I was curious to continue my discovery of this author. When I had the opportunity to launch myself in Firefight, I did not hesitate!

First of all, you are wondering if I was not lost in my reading, right? I must confess that I did not really have any problems. Even if I think that it would be very interesting to know the history as a whole, particularly in relation to the events of Steelheart, the author succeeds perfectly in putting us into the story.

We follow Steelheart, who, after having undergone a large number of attacks, joins his chief, Prof, to go to Babylon Restored to understand what is going on. They will discover a city they could not imagine, a place immersed but where extraordinary plants grow. But then, while Prof thinks he is there to kill an old friend who is overwhelmed by her powers, Steelheart hopes to find her old flame.

I had a great time with this story and found that the author’s universe had created a fairly incredible world. It was very interesting to discover the different characters and I loved to learn more about our hero as well as about Megan. It is quite difficult to decide on this character, to know on which side she is, but we will discover everything little by little.

As always Brandon Sanderson managed to take me into one of his new stories and I confess that I am curious to read more about this series now too!

  1. I’ve not gotten to Brandon’s newest works. I need to do that. I really enjoyed what I did read of his.
