I’m just a fu**ing waitress.

Review: I saw some very good reviews of this novel and it’s true that it made me want to get into the story to discover what the author was going to propose.

Elle is the scapegoat of the school, she endures, suffers and tries to protect her friend Chloe. Nero is the king of the establishment, but he is also the son of one of the bosses of the mafia of the city and his dream is to be part of this family and to prove that he is worthy! When a night She attends the murder of a man, Nero finally has his first mission: to discover what the girl knows and especially to know if she will speak. Still, he did not expect to take on his own game and fall in love with this girl.

I had a good time with the story. The writing is fluid and it is very nice to follow the story. What disturbed me, however, was Nero’s inconsistencies and behavior. As for the inconsistencies, I found it rather odd that Elle suffered so much abuse, some very serious with major injuries, public humiliation and harassment daily without anyone noticing it once or they did not say anything. I know that this kind of thing can go very far, but when a person is almost daily tortured so publicly I find it quite weird. Then there is Nero. I really hated the way he behaved! He helps Elle but she MUST thank him, she has to kiss him, she has to do everything he tells her. I find it really disturbing, so yes, she falls under his spell, but it does not change the problem. She goes from someone who harasses her to someone who forces her to act against her will, and I do not know what is worse. It is unhealthy and unpleasant to see that she has to comply with her orders to have the chance not to be harassed by others.

Overall I thought it was an interesting novel but as you see several points have bothered me a lot.

  1. Yeah, sounds like things went far trying to show him as a mafia guy. I don’t think I’d get into the romance with that sort of situation either. Glad other bits of the book were better for you.
