Strange the Dreamer, Book 1

Synopsis: THE DREAM CHOOSES THE DREAMER

Since he was five years old, Lazlo Strange has been obsessed with the mythical lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to go in search of it. Then a stunning opporunity presents itself – in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legandary warriors – and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.

Review: I had heard a great deal about the author and her novels but even if I put them in a corner of my head, I never read them. Then came the translation into French and again the name echoed once more in my ears. Seeing all the praise on the various platforms I could not help but finally order me this first volume.

Strangely, I did not necessarily pay attention to the synopsis. Well, seeing positive reviews makes me want to buy books. Of course, I did not know what to expect and I must say that I was quite surprised because it was not at all the kind of novel I expected. This is a fantasy novel that we find here, with a young boy as a main character, but also a girl that we find much later in the story. In addition to that it’s a thick novel, very thick and I confess that I did not expect it either. Not that it’s a problem, not at all.

This is not necessarily a novel full of action it is rather a novel on the discovery of an unknown universe, on self-discovery because our hero is an orphan child abandoned at birth who knows nothing of his identity. And of course there is also this young, very intriguing and different girl and we are impatient to know all her secrets. I found it interesting that the author takes her time to explain her world even if it remains a bit fuzzy. The novel ends on a small cliffhanger and many things still remain to be discovered so I’ll be curious to discover Volume 2 to learn more.
