Zaniel Havelock, Book 1
Synopsis: Meet Detective Zaniel Havelock, a man with the special ability to communicate directly with angels. A former trained Angel speaker, he devoted his life to serving both the celestial beings and his fellow humans with his gift, but a terrible betrayal compelled him to leave that life behind. Now he’s a cop who is still working on the side of angels. But where there are angels, there are also demons. There’s no question that there’s evil at work when he’s called in to examine the murder scene of a college student—but is it just the evil that one human being can do to another, or is it something more? When demonic possession is a possibility, even angelic protection can only go so far. The race is on to stop a killer before he finds his next victim, as Zaniel is forced to confront his own very personal demons, and the past he never truly left behind.
Review: I’ve always enjoyed reading Laurell K Hamilton’s novels and I was eager to discover this new series. I couldn’t pass it up!
This time, the author offers us a story of demons and angels and I was very intrigued. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get hooked on the novel or the characters. I found that it dragged on and when after a while, I still couldn’t get into it, I preferred to give up…
So this book was not for me.
I finished it and liked some things about it, but I had issues with some things so I understand why you struggled. It was my first book by the author so I’m on the fence about continuing.
I’m glad it was better for you
I haven’t read this one. I love her Anita Blake series but this one didn’t intrigue me so I hadn’t picked it up. Sorry you didn’t like it more.
I read about 16 of the Anita Blake books before giving up and I don’t think this author is for me either.
Slow reads are just the worst to pick up especially when you look so forward to the book and it disappoints you.
Aww I’m sorry to hear this was a DNF!
I have definitely enjoyed some K. Hamilton books. I’m sorry to read this one wasn’t for you.
New? But yeah, not for me
I’m so disappointed to hear this! I was also curious to see what a new series by her would be like, sad you didn’t enjoy it 🙁
Oh wow, I’ve read a few reviews that mentioned things I know I wouldn’t like. So sorry this didn’t work for you.
Gah. I am sorry!
