Review: This is a story I was curious to discover! It is not the author who interested me, although I like her pen, but the story itself. The synopsis promised me an unexpected structure that I wanted to discover, and I was not disappointed!

Addison lives in a world apart, a kind of bubble located in Texas that brings together people with extraordinary psychic skills. Hers? To read the future. Finally not quite that: she is able to see the branches of her future that will be revealed according to the choices she makes. Great thing will you say to me! Maybe … I’m not so sure, she realizes how much this can affect her life.

If we ignore this, it’s a teenager like the others: a best friend, teen problems, parents who argue and end up divorcing. Wait, freeze. And if we were holding one of these branches, a trigger. And if that was the trigger? If making the choices that concern her could be the trigger for this wave of events?

I was expecting a lot of things from this story, but I did not expect that. That does not mean it’s negative, far from it. It took me a while to understand what was happening to me over the pages. I felt a little lost, I must admit it. The universes cross, mix, without warning. And then all of a sudden, I found the breadcrumb trail. The story is finally very logical, because, obviously, it is above all a question of choice. The author explores the paths to Addison’s future, showing us that if the paths can be very different, they converge to the same point.

I really enjoyed this very original reading, which shows that things are much more complex than appearances suggested. The characters are well defined, rich, original for some (with a big crush on one of them!), And I can not wait, read the volume 2! But I will have to wait! Arggggg

A la croisée des chemins, Tome 1

Résumé : Connaître les retombées de ses choix ne les rendent pas plus faciles…

La vie d’Addison Coleman se résume à un grand « Et si ? » En tant que Chercheuse, lorsqu’elle est face à un choix, elle peut regarder dans le futur et en voir toutes les issues, ce qui lui permet immanquablement d’éviter les désastres. Du moins, c’était ce qu’elle pensait. Lorsque ses parents la prenne de court en lui annonçant leur divorce, elle peut soit choisir de vivre avec son père, qui veut quitter le Camp paranormal pour vivre parmi les « Norms » soit avec sa mère, qui compte rester dans le monde qu’Addie a toujours connu. La réponse aurait dû être évidente puisqu’elle aime sa vie telle qu’elle est, mais une Recherche six semaines dans le futur lui prouve que ce n’est pas aussi simple.

Dans un de ses futurs potentiels, elle se voit s’adapter à la vie hors du Camp en tant que petite nouvelle du lycée pour Norms où elle fait la rencontre de Trevor, un artiste mignon et sensible qui la comprend. Sur son autre route, elle est poursuivie par le mec le plus sexy de l’école, elle qui n’a jamais souhaité devenir la petite amie du quarterback. Lorsque son père est consulté sur un meurtre perpétué au Camp, elle est entrainée bien malgré elle dans un jeu dangereux qui menace tout ce qui est cher à ses yeux. Chacun de ses futurs étant soutendus d’amour et de pertes, ses options se résument à choisir la réalité qu’elle souhaite embrasser, et l’être cher dont elle ne pourra pas se passer…

Avis : Voilà un récit que j’étais curieuse de connaître ! Ce n’est pas l’auteure qui m’intéressait, même si j’aime bien sa plume, mais le récit en lui-même. Le résumé me promettait une structure inattendue que j’ai eu envie de découvrir, et je n’ai pas été déçue !

Addison vit dans un monde à part, une sorte de bulle située dans le Texas qui réunit des gens aux aptitudes psychiques hors normes. La sienne ? Lire l’avenir. Enfin pas tout à fait : elle est capable de voir les embranchements de son avenir qui se révèleront en fonction des choix qu’elle fait. Génial me direz-vous ! Peut-être… Je n’en suis pas si sûre, elle-même se rend compte combien cela peut conditionner sa vie.

Si on fait abstraction de cela, c’est une adolescente comme les autres : une meilleure amie, des problèmes d’ado, des parents qui se disputent et finissent par divorcer. Attendez, arrêt sur image. Et si on tenait là un de ces embranchements, un déclencheur. Et si c’était cela le déclencheur ? Si faire les choix qui la concernent elle pouvait être le déclencheur à cette déferlante d’évènements ?

J’attendais beaucoup de choses de ce récit, mais je ne m’attendais pas à ça. Cela ne veut pas dire que c’est négatif, loin de là. Il m’a fallu un peu de temps pour comprendre ce qui m’arrivait au fil des pages. Je me suis sentie un peu perdue, je dois le reconnaître. Les univers se croisent, se mélangent, sans prévenir. Et puis d’un seul coup, j’ai trouvé le fil d’Ariane. Le récit est finalement très logique, car, évidemment, c’est avant tout une question de choix. L’auteure explore les chemins vers l’avenir d’Addison, nous montrant que si les voies peuvent être très différentes, elles convergent vers un même point.

J’ai vraiment apprécié cette lecture très originale, qui montre que les choses sont bien plus complexes que les apparences ne le laissaient présager. Les personnages sont bien définis, riches, originaux pour certains (avec un gros coup de cœur pour l’un d’entre eux !), et je n’ai qu’une hâte, lire le tome 2 ! Mais je vais devoir attendre ! Arggggg

Review: I decided that in this review I will not mention Curran’s name. Otherwise, you’ll think he’s obsessing me, and I’m not like that. It’s not a little lion (who has a chest that makes me behave like a goldfish) that will turn my brain. Not at all!

Kate’s life has changed a lot lately. She settled in the fortress of the one who-devilishly-well-wears-jogging and must learn to live with a pack of metamorphs that follows one or more specific protocols. It is not easy when you know that she has just opened her own private detective agency and that she is determined to prove herself so that we do not think that she is only the girlfriend of the shirtless-god-naked-with-sharp-theeth. But if it was only that, here her niece (who is not really that) comes to live with them, and obviously, very ugly things fall on the corner of their nose.

To say that I liked this volume would be an euphemism. Kate Daniels is one of the rare series that gains in quality over the years, and it’s not because there is the too-sexy-lion in it. Action, tenderness, humor, I was not bored for a minute. He-who-has-shoulders-to-unhook-the-jaws is more touching than ever, and Kate continues to move me.

Well, there is still a problem, a huge problem (and I’m not talking about the attributes of the-god-feline): the following volume is not yet translated into French! Argggg, how am I going to do?

Meurtre magique d’Ilona Andrews

Kate Daniels, Tome 5

Résumé : Ravagée par une guerre entre la magie et la technologie, Atlanta n’a jamais été aussi dangereuse. Par chance, Kate Daniels est sur le coup.
Kate Daniels a peut-être quitté l’Ordre de l’Aide Miséricordieuse mais elle est toujours plongée jusqu’au cou dans les problèmes paranormaux. Ou, plutôt, elle le serait si quelqu’un daignait l’embaucher. Maintenant que l’Ordre s’emploie à ruiner sa réputation, lancer sa propre affaire s’avère plus difficile qu’elle ne l’aurait cru… Sans compter les nombreux clients potentiels qui craignent d’indisposer le Seigneur des Bêtes, qui n’est autre que le compagnon de Kate.
Quand le premier Maître des Morts d’Atlanta l’appelle pour lui demander de l’aider à capturer un vampire en cavale, Kate saute sur l’occasion de décrocher un travail rentable. Cependant, elle découvre vite qu’il ne s’agit pas d’un incident isolé. Kate doit alors absolument découvrir le fin mot de l’histoire, et rapidement, sinon la ville et tous les êtres qui lui sont chers risquent de payer le prix fort.

Avis : J’ai décidé que dans cette chronique, je ne mentionnerai pas le nom de Curran. Sinon, vous allez croire qu’il m’obsède, et moi, je ne suis pas comme ça. Ce n’est pas un petit lion de rien du tout (et qui a un torse qui me fait me livrer à une parfaite imitation d’un poisson rouge) qui va me retourner le cerveau. Non, pas du tout !

La vie de Kate a connu de grands changements ces derniers temps. Elle s’est installée dans la forteresse de celui-qui-porte-diablement-bien-le-jogging et doit apprendre à cohabiter avec une meute de métamorphes qui suivent un ou des protocoles bien précis. Ce n’est pas simple quand on sait qu’elle vient en plus d’ouvrir sa propre agence de détectives privés et qu’elle est bien décidée à faire ses preuves afin qu’on ne pense pas qu’elle n’est que la petite amie du Dieu-torse-nu-aux-dents-pointues. Mais s’il n’y avait que cela, voilà que sa nièce (qui ne l’est pas vraiment) vient vivre avec eux, et évidemment, des trucs bien moches lui tombent sur le coin du nez.

Dire que j’ai aimé ce tome serait un euphémisme. Kate Daniels est une des rares séries qui gagne en qualité au fil des tomes, et ce n’est pas parce qu’il y a un lion-trop-sexy dedans. De l’action, de la tendresse, de l’humour, je ne me suis pas ennuyée une minute. Celui-qui-a-des-épaules-à-s’en-décrocher-la-mâchoire est plus touchant que jamais, et Kate continue de m’émouvoir.

Bon, il y a quand même un problème, un énorme problème (et je ne parle pas des attributs-du-dieu-félin) : le tome suivant n’est pas encore traduit en français ! Argggg, comment je vais faire !

PS : Vous avez vu, pas une seule fois je n’ai prononcé son nom ! Je suis fière de moi !

Review: I loved the first volume of this series, a real favorite of mine and I converted it into one of the books that sits on my nightstand and I leaf through it regularly. Logically, I waited impatiently for the sequel, and if the roller-coaster of emotions was a little slower, I savored with great happiness these pages that conclude this story very well.

The end of Volume 1 had torn my heart apart. I was afraid that the author would play with it during a large part of the volume, passing it to the mill to make confetti by imposing the game of cat and mouse so common in romances.

Not at all. The story does not go down that path, and that’s good. We find Kestrel and Aimé where we left them. The time of decisions, choices comes. Kestrel always has a strong personality, he crushes those around him, but Aimé learned and grew up during the summer spent with him. She is no longer the hesitant young woman who accompanied the showman, she is now a woman sure of her, of what she wants and ready to assume her choices. I loved the way the author has approached the different questions that assail them, the efforts of everyone to ignore their differences.

The shock of the middle of the story was quite predictable, that’s why I say that the emotional roller-coaster was not so fast, but it is very well managed by the author. Behind the tragedy are the certainties, the self-denial, the courage, all of it carried by a love that will resonate for a long time in my heart.

If you want to discover a hero out of the ordinary, an endearing heroine and deeply human, a rich universe, very well detailed (the fairground), then go for it … But I warn you, at the end of the road, you will fall in love with Kestrel …

Résumé : Combien de fois peut-on jouer avec ses sentiments ? Quand l’amour nous a démoli, doit-on lui donner une seconde chance ? À quel moment l’optimisme devient-il de la stupidité ?

Et que se passe-t-il quand l’homme qu’on aime ne cesse jamais de bouger et de voyager ? Doit-on se dire au revoir ou abandonner tout ce pour quoi on a travaillé et tout ce qu’on a connu jusqu’à maintenant ? Une fête foraine peut-elle devenir son chez-soi ?

Oh. Vous pensiez que j’avais les réponses ? Non, désolée. Pas de réponses, juste un bon nombre de questions et un cœur qui aimerait prendre le dessus sur mon cerveau.

Une personne peut-elle devenir un foyer ?

Avis : J’avais adoré le premier tome de cette série, véritable coup de cœur pour moi qui l’a converti en un de mes livres chouchous qui trône sur ma table de nuit et que je feuillette régulièrement. Logiquement, j’attendais la suite avec impatience, et si le grand huit des émotions a été un peu moins rapide, j’ai savouré avec un très grand bonheur ces pages qui concluent vraiment très bien cette histoire.

La fin du tome 1 m’avait arrachée le cœur. J’ai eu peur que l’auteure joue avec lui pendant une grande partie du volume, le passant à la moulinette pour en faire des confettis en m’imposant le jeu du chat et de la souris si fréquent dans les romances.

Pas du tout. Le récit ne s’engage pas sur cette voie, et c’est tant mieux. On retrouve Kestrel et Aimée là où on les avait laissés. L’heure des décisions, des choix arrive. Kestrel a toujours une forte personnalité, il écrase ceux qui l’entourent, mais Aimé a appris et a grandi pendant l’été passé à ses côtés. Elle n’est plus la jeune femme hésitante qui a accompagné le forain, c’est désormais une femme sûre d’elle, de ce qu’elle veut et prête à assumer ses choix. J’ai adoré la façon dont l’auteure a abordé les différents questionnements qui les assaillent, les efforts de chacun pour faire fi de leurs différences.

Le choc du milieu de l’histoire était assez prévisible, c’est d’ailleurs pour cela que je dis que le grand-huit émotionnel n’a pas été aussi rapide, mais il est très bien géré par l’auteure. Derrière la tragédie, se trouvent les certitudes, l’abnégation, le courage, tout ça porté par un amour qui résonnera pendant longtemps dans mon cœur.

Si vous avez envie de découvrir un héros hors du commun, une héroïne attachante et profondément humaine, un univers riche, très bien détaillé (celui des forains), alors foncez… Mais je vous préviens, au bout du chemin, vous tomberez amoureuse de Kestrel…

Review: Kate Daniels is a series that I love with a deep love, really deep love, and the more the volumes advance, the more I like it … The reasons are many, and rather than writing a detailed review with lots of nice words, I said to myself that for once, going to the essential would be perhaps be more effective to convince you to discover it.

Fact # 1: This volume is overflowing with action, the rhythm of the story never slows down, the events are linked in a crazy race.
Fact 2: There is Curran.
Fact # 3: We find Saiman and he is hilarious sometimes (despite himself). I love the variety of characters that the authors offer us.
Fact 4: There is Curran. What? Have I already said it? But there is one detail that must be known, he appears naked. But really naked. In his simplest device. (Long sigh)
Fact 5: We discover more about Kate, and it’s really good news from the authors.
Fact 6: Family is sometimes rotten. But really rotten. It’s not the characters who will tell us the opposite.
Fact 7: Curran appears naked. No, I do not ramble, I protest. He appears naked several times. Yeah, who says “volume full of action” says “transformations for Curran” and says “transformations” says naked Curran. (Long sigh x2)
Fact # 8: Kate is particularly endearing in this volume. I appreciate her more and more.
Fact 8: No jacuzzy but a bed in this volume. And bed + Curran =? (Pause and outraged expression on my part) What did you think? (Frown.) A bed is for sleeping! You really have have misplaced ideas!
Fact 9: A lot of tenderness in these pages. Humor too. Characters who reveal themselves.
Fact 10: Curran is …. pfiou … I think we should make him as a statue. Or make bookmarks to have him on hand if needed. Shirtless eh, his jogging is accepted. In this volume he takes all his magnitude, and I do not speak only of his muscles. The characters are well found, we understand better their motivations and something is unlocked. A real success.
Fact # 11: Ahhhhh, I need the 5th! There, now, immediately!
Fact # 12: If you have not yet discovered the Kate Daniels series, what are you waiting for?
