Review: Mandy Baxter / Amanda Bonilla is an author that I particularly like and having enjoyed the first volumes, I was curious to get into the rest of this beautiful suspense romance series. And I think I can say that this volume is currently my favorite of the series.

We discover a man bored with his life, who would like to get out, even if ultimately it is all he is. Parker Evans is a US Marshal whose job requires him to infiltrate many different environments including those of drug dealers. If creating a dual identity is very difficult, we can observe the consequences of such an action. After a rather difficult mission, our hero is back in the saddle and he now has to try to bring down a huge drug trafficking boss. For this, he will impersonate a resourceful dealer, while living in a hotel in the region, led by Tabitha, our young heroine. Tabitha, who herself, has to manage a large number of problems, although different ones from Parker. Indeed, she is trying to help her brother, after he had a problem as a dealer and he is doing everything possible to change. Yet already overwhelmed by this, she must also deal with her ex, another trafficker, who threatens to bring down her brother down with him if she does not leave her hotel to manage his business. In short, you’ll understand that it’s a rather complicated situation for both sides of our protagonists.

But when our two heroes meet, an irresistible attraction arises, putting them in front of a fateful choice. Can Tabitha trust a trafficker working with her ex? Can Parker be with a woman who lets a criminal working on her workplace? Is she part of the organization? And is it not contradictory to tie a relationship with a suspect? I was curious to see how the two would solve their problems and move forward together. Their story is rather touching even if it is true that as always we want them to reveal their secrets and to tell the truth early on while their relationship becomes more and more intense, but in any cases, the whole environment with the traffic was really interesting and I was quickly taken by the story.

So as you see, I had a great time with this new novel and I am curious to know what will happen for the next couple and so the next book.

Il a été infiltré trop longtemps et aime vivre dangereusement. L’US Marshal, Parker Evans,  pense que c’est la raison pour laquelle il ne met pas immédiatement Tabitha en garde à vue. Bien sûr, elle est sa seule chance de finalement de faire tomber un important réseau de drogue. Mais chaque minute pendant laquelle ‘il protège cette blonde innocente laisse la plupart du temps son cœur trop vulnérable. Et le coût du désir pourrait être un final mortel …

Avis : Mandy Baxter/Amanda Bonilla est une auteure que j’apprécie particulièrement et après avoir apprécié les premiers tomes, j’étais curieuse de pouvoir me lancer dans la suite de cette jolie romance à suspens. Et je pense pouvoir dire que ce volume-ci est pour le moment mon préféré de la série.

On découvre un homme blasé par sa vie, qui aimerait en sortir, même si finalement c’est aussi tout ce qu’il est. Parker Evans est un US Marshal dont le travail l’oblige à infiltrer de nombreux milieux différents dont ceux de la drogue. Se créer une double identité est très difficile et on peut observer et les conséquences de ce type d’action. Après une mission assez difficile, notre héros se remet en selle et il doit à présent essayer de faire tomber un énorme trafic de drogue. Pour cela, il va se faire passer pour un dealer plein de ressource, tout en habitant dans l’hôtel de la région, dirigé par Tabitha, notre jeune héroïne. Tabitha, elle-même, doit gérer un grand nombre de problèmes, même si différents de Parker. En effet, elle essaie d’aider son frère, après qu’il ait lui-même eu une passade en tant que trafiquant et fait tout son possible pour qu’il change de voie. Pourtant, déjà débordée par cela, elle doit aussi faire face à son ex, un autre trafiquant, qui menace de faire tomber son frère avec lui si elle ne le laisse pas profiter de son hôtel pour son business. Bref, vous l’aurez compris, une situation assez compliquée de part et d’autres de nos protagonistes.

Mais dès que nos deux héros se rencontrent, une irrésistible attraction se présente, les mettant devant un choix fatidique. Tabitha peut-elle faire confiance à un trafiquant travaillant avec son ex ? Parker peut-il être avec une femme qui laisse un criminel travailler sur son lieu de travail ? Fait-elle partie de l’organisation ? Et n’est-ce pas contradictoire par rapport à son travail de lier une relation avec un suspect ? J’étais curieuse de voir comment les deux allaient résoudre leurs problèmes et avancer ensemble. Leur histoire est assez touchante même si c’est vrai que comme toujours on leur en veut de ne pas se révéler leurs secrets et de ne pas se dire la vérité dès le début alors que leur relation devient de plus en plus intense, mais en tout cas, tout l’environnement avec les trafics était vraiment très intéressante et j’ai été rapidement prise par l’histoire.

Donc, comme vous le voyez, j’ai passé un très bon moment avec ce nouveau roman et je suis curieuse de savoir ce qu’il adviendra pour le prochain couple et donc le prochain roman.

Review: I enjoyed all the short volumes of this series and I was curious to discover the history of the last brother. Unlike the others, Carter is a widower raising two little girls. This is a very difficult job for a man who is not accustomed to this and who expected to raise his children with the woman of his life before fate took her. This is why, he still lives with her mind at his side. His life will change completely when, during some holidays, he meets with Tess, his pretty neighbor who also seems very attracted to him.

It was interesting to see a father here and it’s true that this is what immediately drew me in the summary. We do not often have the opportunity to have parents and I found it intriguing to see what the author had in store for us. I loved seeing the relationship existing between parents and children, as well as the difficulty to want to reform something with another person. By cons, it is true that ultimately the intimate relationship took too much precedence over the story and I was expecting maybe a little more than that. Then, it’s true that these are short stories so it’s always a bit tricky to add a lot in them. In all cases, I had a good time with our two characters.

Résumé (traduction personnelle) : Dans The Billionaire Single Dad par Mandy Baxter, Carter Christensen prend un repos bien mérité après une saison en tant que “Dallas Cowboy”. Il est prêt à aller dans son chalet avec ses deux filles jumelles et un peu de paix et de calme. Mais il ne s’attendait pas à rencontrer une femme qui le déstabilise complètement.

Tess Adams apprécie d’avoir échappé à New York et à son petit ami qui l’a trompée, et de vivre dans une ville tranquille du Texas. Mais quand un père de jumelles célibataire se déplace et s’installe dans le chalet de l’autre côté, Tess se sent tout sauf paisible. Plus elle en arrive à connaître le oh-très-sexy Carter Christensen, plus Tess commence à penser qu’elle devrait renoncer à sa vie tranquille et sécuritaire, et s’adonner à la passion.

Avis : J’ai bien aimé tous les tomes courts de cette série et j’étais curieuse de découvrir l’histoire du dernier frère. A l’inverse des autres, Carter est un homme veuf qui élève à présent deux jeunes petites jumelles. C’est un travail très difficile pour un homme qui n’a pas l’habitude de cela et qui s’attendait à élever ses enfants avec la femme de sa vie avant que le destin ne la lui arrache. C’est d’ailleurs pourquoi, il vit toujours avec son esprit à ses côtés. Sa vie va complètement changer quand, lors de vacances, il rencontre Tess, sa jolie voisine qui semble d’ailleurs elle aussi très attirée par lui.

C’était intéressant de suivre un père de famille et c’est vrai que c’est ce qui m’a tout de suite attirée dans le résumé. Nous n’avons pas souvent l’occasion d’en côtoyer et je trouvais intrigant de voir ce que l’auteur avait en réserve pour nous. J’ai beaucoup aimé voir la relation qu’il y avait entre ce parent et ses enfants, de même que la difficulté qu’il a à vouloir reformer quelque chose avec une autre personne. Par contre c’est vrai que finalement la relation intime prend un peu trop le pas sur l’histoire et j’en attendais peut-être un peu plus. Après c’est vrai que ce sont des histoires courtes donc c’est toujours un peu délicat de rajouter beaucoup de choses. Dans tous les cas, on passe un bon moment avec nos deux personnages.

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

Review: I did only read one book by Colleen Hoover (Maybe Someday) but I was really touched by the pen of the author and the history that encompasses us completely. And it’s true that when I heard about the release of Ugly Love, I was immediately intrigued and interested in everything that this new novel could offer. I have not yet read a lot of novels from Hugo Romance (French editor), but the little I have tried (Maybe Someday & Life Unaware by Cole Gibsen) pleased me more than I expected. The two facts combined have forced me to throw myself as soon as I could in this new novel and it has completely transported me once again. Admittedly, Colleen Hoover shakes our heart, tickle our tears and our feelings while presenting us a story full of emotions.

We follow here two main characters: Tate and Miles. These two POVs are written at a different period which adds a twist to the story. Indeed, we find Tate nowadays, a girl actually living with her pilot brother, the time to resume her life and find a new apartment. Alternatively, we can also follow Miles, his history six years ago, the events that made him what he is today. I admit that I was curious to know about his past, to understand what had been pushing him to become that bitter regarding personal relationships, what happened to the young woman that we hear about at the beginning of the story. But the novel is done so that we can only know the truth when we reach the end of the story.

In all cases, we follow the meeting between these two characters, two people who did not expect to experience such feelings towards each other. It’s quite sad to see Tate fall gradually in love with the young man, to see that she gets stuck in feelings that do not seem reciprocal and so that Miles accepts a possible relationship without particular expectations behind it. Yet he does not realize the harm he does to the young woman, the hope he places, or the ignoble way he treats her sometimes. At the same time, it is very difficult to Tate to come off, to realize that nothing will be possible and that perhaps he is not the one for her. It’s a difficult history, unhealthy, but we’re curious to see the purpose and the consequences. We remain touched by the feelings of the young woman, to see how she will react.

You’ll understand that I spent once again a great time with the author and I advise you to discover one of her writings, you will pass from joy to sadness in no time without being able to let go of the novel before finishing it.

Ugly Love de Colleen Hoover

Résumé : Quand Tate Collins rencontre Miles Archer, elle sait que ce n’est pas le coup de foudre. Et pour cause, le beau pilote n’a de temps que pour les aventures sans lendemain. Ils ne peuvent pourtant pas nier leur attraction mutuelle, aussi immédiate que brûlante. Alors pourquoi ne pas se laisser séduire, quand le sexe est si bon ? Pas d’attaches, simplement la passion… Leur arrangement semble parfait, tant que Tate accepte de respecter les deux règles de Miles : Pas de question sur le passé, Ne pas espérer de futur. Cependant, ils vont vite comprendre que le coeur ne suit pas d’autres règles que les siennes. L’amour, même quand il n’est pas une évidence, sera-t-il plus fort que leurs promesses ?

Avis : Je n’ai lu qu’un seul livre de Colleen Hoover (Maybe Someday) mais j’avais vraiment été touchée par la plume de l’auteur et par son histoire qui nous englobe complètement. Alors c’est vrai que quand j’ai entendu parler de la sortie de Ugly Love, j’ai tout de suite été intriguée et intéressée par tout ce que ce nouveau roman pourrait nous offrir. Je n’ai pas encore lu énormément de romans provenant de chez Hugo Romance, mais le peu que j’ai tenté (Maybe Someday & Blacklistée) m’avaient enthousiasmée au plus au point. Les deux faits combinés m’ont forcée à me lancer au plus tôt dans ce nouvel écrit qui m’a une fois de plus complètement transportée. Il faut dire que Colleen Hoover nous serre le cœur, chatouille nos larmes et titille nos sentiments tout en nous présentant une histoire pleine d’émotions.

Nous suivons ici deux personnages principaux Tate et Miles. Ces deux points de vue sont écrits lors de périodes différentes ce qui ajoute une touche d’originalité à l’histoire. En effet, on retrouve Tate de nos jours, une jeune fille emménageant chez son frère pilote, le temps de reprendre sa vie en main et de trouver un nouvel appartement. Alternativement, nous pouvons aussi suivre Miles, son histoire 6 ans auparavant, des évènements qui ont fait ce qu’il est aujourd’hui. J’avoue que j’étais curieuse de connaitre son passé, de comprendre ce qui avait bien pu le pousser à devenir aussi amer face aux relations personnelles, ce qui était arrivé à la jeune femme dont on entend parler au début de l’histoire. Mais le roman est fait de telle façon que l’on ne connait la vérité que lorsque l’on arrive en fin d’histoire.

Dans tous les cas, on suit la rencontre entre ces deux personnages, deux personnes qui ne s’attendaient pas à éprouver de tels sentiments l’un envers l’autre. C’est assez triste de voir Tate tomber petit à petit sous le charme du jeune homme, de voir qu’elle s’enlise dans des sentiments qui ne semblent pas réciproque bien que Miles accepte une possible relation sans attente particulière derrière. Pourtant il ne se rend pas compte du mal qu’il fait à la jeune femme, de l’espoir qu’il lui laisse, ou de la façon parfois ignoble de la façon dont il la traite. Et en même temps, il est très difficile à Tate de se détacher, de se rendre compte que rien ne sera possible et qu’il n’est peut-être pas celui pour elle. C’est une histoire difficile, malsaine dont on est curieux de voir la finalité et les conséquences. On reste touché par les sentiments de la jeune femme, à voir comment elle réagira.

Vous l’aurez compris, j’ai passé une fois de plus un très bon moment avec l’auteur et je vous conseille de découvrir un de ses écrits, vous passerez de la joie à la tristesse en un rien de temps sans pouvoir lâcher le roman avant de l’avoir fini.

Review: In the Winston family we have 6 brothers, red bearded and very attractive. The one that interests us is Duane who is in love with Jessica since she launched her swimsuit in a tree. Jessica James, daughter of the sheriff, had a crush on Beau (Duane’s twin brother) when she was younger. Beau was her hero (he saved her cat) and he was friendly while Duane was tormenting her (he threw stones on the cat).

When Jessica came back to Green Valley to teach math, she haven’t seen the twins for years. On the Halloween night, she is with a twin. Beau or maybe Duane? She is not sure. Well it’s Duane and she is confused because she is falling for him.

The story is told in dual POV. In one chapter you will know Duane’s feelings and in the other you’re inside Jessica’s head.

The story is interesting, funny (I laughed so hard I scared my cat) and steamy (not graphic)! Exactly what you need to escape the reality for a time and just be happy while reading!

It’s Duane and Jessica’s story but there’s a lot of characters you will enjoy to know about (Cletus !!!!).

One last thing: translate this book in french please! The french readers will love it!
